Official Galaxy Note 3 Wireless Charging S-View Flip Cover Now Available for $69.99

note 3 wireless charging

Being able to wirelessly charge a smartphone is something you really can’t appreciate until you have gone through a couple of phones that are capable of accomplishing the task. Sure, you still need a wire and a charging pad, but the convenience of not having to plug in your phone at any time is an item I’m starting to categorize as one that I can’t live without. Especially with the introduction of new cables like USB 3.0 and Google turning ports upside down on the regular, plugging in cables has become a nuisance.

If you own a Galaxy Note 3, your wireless charging situation became slightly more robust this week with the introduction of the wireless charging S-View Flip Cover. As the name suggests, you are looking at a combo cover that merges a Note 3 wireless charging rear cover with an S-View Flip Cover. So you get all of the window-esque benefits that the Flip Cover provides, with the option to drop your phone on a wireless charging pad and have it do work

So you are aware, this wireless charging cover runs $69.99, which doesn’t include a charging pad. Pads can be found all over this fine Earth at places like Amazon for pretty reasonable prices, some of which fall below the $30 mark. In the end though, you are looking at a $100 investment to be able to wirelessly charge your phone. Keep in mind that a Qi-certified charger should last you for some time, so it may be worth it in the end.

The cover is available in both black and white.

Wireless Charging S-View Flip Cover:  Black | White ($69.99)

Cheers Joel!

Is this a Qi standard? I just want to know if it works with my RAVPower Qi wireless charger.

Nice post. Ideal for a new year gift.

Damn Sammy why no S4 love.

  • Pat Leck

Like the article said, you’ll still need to try this out with a few phones to actually see the greatness of it. Having a phone that has the ability to using wireless, is an amazing concept.

“…Google turning ports upside down on the regular, plugging in cables has become a nuisance.”

lol! They are all right side up on my DNA, N5, N7! :-) I think it’s just ‘one of those things’…I mean who determined that the ports are “upside down” in the first place!?

    • Mike Hilal

      Right side up = ___/

      Upside down = /—-

this has been the way since mini USB was around.

Samsung and most other mfgs flipped them over so the pins were on the bottom…which makes no sense

      • mcdonsco

        I always thought the opposite…strange.

I can’t beleive they are trying to make money as a business! The nerve of them to make accessories that are practical and enhance your experience! Everything should be free dammit!

  • crazed_z06

This should give you idea of how much thickness is added by the wireless charging back…

    http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee298/crazed1x/Tech_and_Electronics/20131227_125844_zpshkcktxjo.jpg

It bothered me because one of the things I like about the Note 3 is the slimless.

    • Intellectua1

      Another reason to pass..

  • crazed_z06

I got the Wireless charging back with the 50% off coupon that you get when registering your Samsung phone. It works OK, but I’m back to using the normal cover. The wireless charging back adds just a tad bit of thickness and weight to the phone. That little bit bothers me though. I havent found it to be that much more convenient either. I got a $30 generic Qi pad from Amazon and it’s kinda annoying that the phone has to be perfectly centered on the pad to charge. I think you dont have this problem with the samsung pad because it’s made to to fit the phone… Some pads also have magnets to help you center the device from what I understand

    • fauxshizzl

I have a DNA and use a Nokia Qi charger that has been posted on this site several times. I could pretty much throw my phone at it and as long as it landed somewhere on top of the pad it would charge, you don’t have to find the “sweet spot” I have heard many other chargers have. Also works really well with my N7, but being the charger is so small you have center it on there just so it doesn’t fall off.

      • LionStone

Yea I haven’t had any issues with my DNA/N5/N7 on any of the chargers I have. But I’ve read that Sammy has issues with their add on wireless chargers not charging all the way to 100% with some of the wireless chargers.

  • fauxshizzl

I can’t believe they are still charging extra for the ability to wireless charge and not building it into the phone to begin with. That is like selling a tablet touting stylus support and then charging extra for a stylus.

What’s next paying for a code that allows you to buy the device.

Better delete this before giving them any ideas.

  • Intellectua1

Never liked wireless charging, cool idea but I can’t use my phone while its charging so it’s pointless.. Like right now my phone is on the charger and I have it in my hands using it..

    • LionStone

I use mine on the charger all the time, why can’t you?

      • Intellectua1

The understanding in have of these things are they need to be in contact with the ppad at all times in order to be charging, am I wrong?? With my cord I can pick it up, move around stand up and its still charging.. Can you actually pick the phone up (not the phone with the pad) and use it and it still charges?? I don’t think so

        • LionStone

You said, “I can’t use my phone while its charging so it’s pointless..”

It sounds like just your preference, not a technical difficulty. I can still use it while it’s charging. What don’t you understand? Speakerphone works, Hotspot, browsing, texting, emailing… all works while on the wireless charger :-)

          • djdsf

I think he means from a practical standpoint. Like me laying in bed and using my phone while it charges w/o having to lean to the bedside table because the phone comes to me and not me to the phone.

          • LionStone

In this case, you are using it in bed with a cord attached to your phone, that doesn’t seem very convenient or practical to me. I just grab it off the plate, use it, then put it back on the plate.

          • djdsf

Continuous charging rather than interrupting the charge cycle and messing up your battery. Using a cable has been done for years, nothing inconvenient there.

          • LionStone

Thought you might go there with that… First, I never said using a cable is inconvenient. I said using your phone, while a cord is attached, IN BED, is inconvenient. Can you guarantee that the battery will be messed up? I’ve used my DNA this way for over a year now…no issues :-)

  • bydavidrosen

I’ve always wondered… If you flip the cover all the way back, that see through part, does it interfere with picture taking AT ALL? Or is it totally just an empty space and doesn’t interfere with the lens and/or flash at all?

    • John Lane

It works but it is a lil blurry on the plus side you csn launch the camera thru sview

  • Sammy

Rip off. Worse is that you have to use Samsung music player app when the case closed to control music. Can’t use google music. Save your money.

  • Jeff C

i’ll put up with usb 3.0 any day of the week and three times on tuesday. being able to take a shower and get a 30% charge is amazing.

but yea, i bet wireless charging is bawls. im just broke haha

    • Mitchman

I’m a battery swapper, I don’t charge my phone. Old habit from my Galaxy Nexus I guess. Wireless charging too pricy for my blood too!

      • Maxim∑

its like 29$ for qi charger, of course Samsung cannot just put a receiver on the battery…

        • Mitchman

Well qi charger and wireless back cover for my Note 3 would still be more than my battery + battery charger? Otherwise I am a hypocrite.

          • Maxim∑

No your right, a Samsung battery with the receiver is 79$ and good charger is like 30$+. Cheaper just to swap out the batteries with Samsung

        • djdsf

Is nfc a reason for that?

          • LionStone

It hasn’t stopped HTC, LG, Motorola or Nokia…since Sammy still uses a replaceable back, they are only able to provide an external option.

  • Jeff Helget

    Amazing.
