The Droid Life Show: Episode 45, Last Show of 2013

The Droid Life Show is back tonight with Episode 45. Sadly, this will be the last show of 2013, with the next show being our CES special which will take place January 8 of 2014. Pretty crazy to think that this year is almost already over. Tonight, we are going to recap this year in Android, covering devices and the OS itself, while also discuss what our favorite phones were from the year. We will also be giving you the regular weekly recap of news and games, so be sure to join the DL staff as we bid farewell to 2013.

Tonight’s show kicks off around 6PM Pacific (9PM Eastern). A live video broadcast will be embedded below closer to the start of the show. Until then, feel free to hang out in the Droid Life IRC room.

I’m suprised! The htc One Stock or GPE..? By far the best phone of 2013, c’mon guys..!

    • Warner Blak

1st phone to get updates after nexus devices!

  • sski66

    HTC ONE .

  • Dave S.

Semi-unrelated to the Show, but I wanted to ask a question in a more current post…

Is there any way to disable the on-screen, gray pop-up notifications in Kit Kat?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

Will the new member of your team be part of this discussion? I’ve been seen new updates from a person name Kyle, which since last week I had not hear of.

    • I don’t think he’ll be participating on this one

  • nvitone23

Can you guys please share your thoughts on the rumored Sprint/T-Mobile acquisition?!

  • TowelieMeBanana

Due for upgrade on January 9th from my geriatric G-Nex. The question is…do I upgrade asap to a Moto X or wait for something a little more “futureproof?” Decisions decisions. Sigh.

    • There probably won’t be any major new phone announcements until Summer. The question is, can you wait that long with the Gnex?

      • I think you meant to say “get an iPhone ASAP!” 🙂

      • TowelieMeBanana

Or hope these S5 rumors have some truth to them

        • We saw the same rumors for the S4 last year. I really doubt they’ll have anything until Summer.

          • TowelieMeBanana

Unless they are shooting to advertise for the Olympic viewing audience as they did heavily in ’12.

          • M3D1T8R

Never mind that the S4 was announced in the month of April and widely available in the month of May. Both months, it should go without saying, are a part of the season widely known as “Spring”. But don’t worry, I’m sure no one is surprised by your apparent confusion, or maybe just plain laziness, when it comes to basic facts related to such lesser Android phones. Or maybe I should say, I “really doubt” anyone is.

          • You’re right, Spring is more accurate. Sorry for the mistake.

      • Ray Gray

HTC ONE 2 doesnt count? lol 1…2 how dumb is that name going to be lol

        • HTC One Up would be a great name.

          • ReturnOfTheMack

            That. Would. Be. Perfect.

Seriously that would be an awesome name for the supposed HTC M8.

      • M3D1T8R

Now you’re just trolling. Either you’re a lot more ignorant than I would have thought, or you surely do know that we will certainly see new flagships announced from HTC, and Samsung well before summer. Quite possibly something from Motorola as well, not to mention others. But that’s right, you wouldn’t consider any announcement not out of Cupertino, California as “major”, right? Why not just be honest and say what you really think, “I suggest you buy an Iphone now, because all Android phones are crap, and that is not going to change in the next six months.”

    • jack584

Note 3 + Nova to make it look as close to stock as possible.

If it’s too big for you then just get the Moto X.

    • CaptainHowdy13

I’m happy with my N5. Battery life is actually good (unless I’m playing ingress, but I doubt any phone has good battery life on that game). I’m not a big photographer so the pics are good to me, but what to I know?

    • kixofmyg0t

My vote would be go with X. But I will warn you, once you use a X/Ultra and get used to its features(Active Display, Touchless control, Assist etc) it’s painful to go back to something without them.

    • EdubE24

The LG G2 is a beast of a phone. And the Knock On feature should be on all phones going forward!!

    • Nikuliai

There will be few to none new phones in the next months (biggest announces may be on CES but won’t be available soon), I’m going Moto X in January or Feb, depends on the money I get at the end of the month :/, but I would say to go blindly to the Moto X unless you have enough willpower to wait til August
