HTC Unveils One Max in Black, Still a Leviathan

One Max

We just got done posting up our quick review of the One Max from HTC, and while it didn’t receive the highest grade from us, there are still people out there that will enjoy this device. HTC announced a Black variant of the phone over in Hong Kong this afternoon, which could possibly make its way here to the U.S. in the near future.

The device has decent specs if you didn’t already know, highlighted by a Snapdragon 600 quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, a massive 5.9″ 1080p display, HTC’s UltraPixel camera, as well as a fingerprint scanner. While the specs are good, we just felt the device was simply too big, which is always a matter of personal preference.

What do you think? Digging the darkness?

Looks nice, too bad it can’t compete with the N3 when it comes to useful software for a large phone.

  • morgan boyle

Leviathan???? pretty sure you wanted to say monolith.

  • Chris Hughes

I love me some HTC phones. I think people hate because it’s in fashion…but damn if I have not loved every HTC phone I’ve ever had.

  • George

this Black variant defiantly is an improvment. the fingerprint scanner looks much much better with this black device. on that note though I still would not get this device. Its pointless…the only reason someone would get this phone would be to have a giant phone, might as well get the Note 3, it has more functionality

  • Mark Schleupner

If only this would come to Verizon…. but it won’t.

  • HarleyGuy72

Please review the JBL pulse. Sorry for posting this here….

  • HornayG0rl

Never thought I’d say this, but Tim is actually a pretty sexy man.

    • Tim242

      Back off, he’s mine!

      • HornayG0rl

Nah he’s gonna be in my bed not yours. ;)

    • Guest

      Nice try Tim

  • Intellectua1

I like it in black but still wouldn’t buy the phone, or any HTC device

I guess black isn’t slimming after all, huh?

  • StuckOnVerizonForever

Talk about a wasted phone. And people call the Moto X outdated…

  • joejoe5709

Whoa! I think I pooped myself a little. That thing is scary! Lol. No, really, but that thing is scary big and black.

  • Adam

looks pretty sick… thanks for fixing the website too, not so huge

  • hobos

Does it have 4.4.2? Is any HTC phone running 4.4.2? Is it unlocked? No soft keys, no sale. Branding on the screen, no sale.

    • Jolly Smith

Yes it have 4.2.2 update and it is unlocked also. how can you say it have no sale, no branding.

I will say my note 3 is about as large a phone as I would want. It still fits in pocket, but you know it’s there. I’m not sure producing just a bigger phone was the answer for HTC. They needed to bring a unique feature not available to any other phone like the S pen.
However, give them credit for trying to break into a market that had continued to show growth.

  • Kyle Cordiano

It could be covered in silver, still not worth it.

  • crazed_z06

    HTC Lost.

  • RoninX

    That actually looks… great.

I’m surprised how much better it looks in black. If it had a Snapdragon 800, I’d consider it.

    • alzeis

I have the HTC One in black. The only issue is that the black shows scratches and dings way more easily because of the silver under the black color. So if you do ding it sticks out like a sore thumb. It also collects fingerprints like crazy on the back. I have to clean my phone at the end of every day. So I would def stick to the natural color of aluminum

  • shamatuu

making it black still sucks ass phone fro HTC

  • Destroythanet

Looks good in that color. However, the dumbest thing to me is using capacitive buttons instead of on-screen buttons. They could’ve had a 6.1″ screen in a similar body instead of screen that’s barely bigger than the Note 3’s.

  • Maxim∑

I thought the title was “HTC unveils HTC One+ in black” but no

  • E A butler

WHy HTC?? WHY, WHY, WHY???…… They used to be my favorite handset maker, now they are just looking sad.

  • JRUIV

I’m impressed by your word usage in the title (had to look that one up). Was that the Dictionary.com word of the day? :p

Edit: Nope, that would be Lipogram

    • Liderc

Leviathan is used in some of the most common novels in the world. Read a book sometime.

      • JRUIV

        Wow, that escalated quickly

        • Liderc

lol, I realized how much of an ass I sounded like after I posted it. My bad =P

          • Chris Hughes

I was going to type the same thing. Read your comment and thought “Wow, I would have sounded like a dick.”

Thanks for taking the bullet for me!

      • BSweetness

I’m surprised you left out a mention of the source material.

  • S9779

Should have always come in black everyone know the black ones are bigger.

  • Blue Sun

It looks much better, but I’m still not impressed.
(Insert Chris Farley Tommy Boy quote here.)

  • Grizzy

I think black makes it the best looking phone out there. But for a large phone like that, I’d go with the Note 3 and its superior specs.

    • Tim242

      Note 3. In white. Yep.
