Buy a Chromecast and Nexus 7 Together, Get $35 in Google Play Credit

Over the holiday weekend, Google was dishing out $25 in Google Play credit to anyone who purchased a Nexus 7 (2013) through Google Play. This week, they are changing up the promo by upping the credit to $35 as long as you buy a Chromecast with it. Oh, they’ll toss in free shipping too.

The Nexus 7 (2013) starts at $229 (16GB model) and the Chromecast is $35, but with the Play credit of $35 being tossed in, you could consider it somewhat of a deal. Also, keep in mind that Chromecast just received support for an additional 10 apps, making it much more useful than it ever has been before. Local media streaming, anyone?

This finally helps the Play store to be competitive, assuming one wants both… N7 has been selling at at least $30 discounts everywhere else for a while… Heck, I bought mine on Day1 from OMax with a $30 off coupon and free ship.

    Picture not to scale…

Better together? Can you tether the nexus 7 display to a chromecast?

So, if you’re buying a N7 and Chromecast this is a worse deal than before?

    • BrianRoskamp

No? $25 (from N7) + $6 (from CC) = $31 < $35 (from new N7 + CC deal). And even if it is worse than their after-Thanksgiving sale, it's still a savings from their typical retail price.

    • The best deal was the Nexus 7 at Staples with what, a $50 discount?

    Google is on fire!!!

So getting a Chromecast with the order and receiving a $35 Google Play card is Google’s version of a proprietary rebate, maybe?

    • BrianRoskamp

Works for me. I hate spending actual money on apps/music (why? I have no idea…) but I’m happy to use the credits.

Hah, same here. I’ll spend hundreds on eating out all the time and other random stuff, but $1 for an app/game? Screw that! =p

I’m glad I’m not the only one. As a software developer myself, I feel guilty about it too!
