HTC Announces the One in Gold, Much Different Than the 18K Version

htc one gold

Remember the 18K gold version of the HTC One that was created for the MOBO awards back in October, costing roughly $4400? Well, HTC has decided that since it received enough buzz (or because Apple has done it with the iPhone 5s), they would go ahead and mass-produce a gold variant of their 2013 flagship, though this retail-ready gold variant isn’t of the 18K variety. You are looking at your standard HTC One, only with a shiny new coat of “festive” paint.

According to HTC, the gold HTC One “makes gold the glamorous colour of the festive season and a must-have for starting 2014 in style.” It’ll be available at retailers across Europe, though no other availability has been announced at this time.

Other than the color change, this is still the same HTC One that was released back in early 2013. You have your Snapdragon 600 processor, 4MP (“UltraPixel”) camera, 4.7-inch HD display, and HTC’ Sense overlay. It’s still a mostly brilliant phone, even with those bezels. It’s too bad the Google Play Edition doesn’t come in gold, as it’s now running Android 4.4 Kit Kat.

HTC ONE® RECEIVES GOLDEN MAKEOVER FOR CHRISTMAS

The world’s best smartphone, now in Gold arrives in Europe

London, November 25th, 2013 — HTC, a global leader in mobile innovation and design, today unveiled its award-winning HTC One flagship model in a sophisticated new colour. Available across Europe and building on the existing colour portfolio of Silver, Black, Blue and Red, the new HTC One in Gold packs the power and acclaimed features of this premium model into a brushed body with black accents that oozes luxury and style.

Philip Blair, President of EMEA commented, “Building on the all metal design of the HTC One, and the recent success of the HTC 18 carat gold MOBO phone, we are excited to have developed our own gold device, offering yet more choice to consumers”.

The HTC One has won international recognition for its stunning design. With its striking brushed finish and metal unibody design, the latest shade makes gold the glamorous colour of the festive season and a must-have for starting 2014 in style.

This latest addition to the family comes with all of the features of the HTC One, including HTC Zoe, HTC BlinkFeed and HTC BoomSound. The device will be available across Europe with a number of partners.

That phone looks almost as good as the new site.

(Now to leave that dangling there so people can’t tell if it’s a compliment or a dis :) ).

For anyone who is still considering the HTC, I’ll give you just a little advice about my current blue version. First of all the blue is gorgeous and I love it, BUT it got a minor scratch the other day and guess what color was beneath it? Silver/gray. If you are still considering a HTC One, I strongly suggest that you get the original silver/gray model due to these reasons. Now it didn’t happen by a minor fingernail scratch or everyday use…I had it in the weightroom with me so take it how you want. It is unfortunate, but it is what it is. The phone itself is still fantastic, but it kind of sucks that this happened.

Am I the only one not liking this “gold” trend?

    • aQuickBit

But it gives consumers who would like it a choice. It’s never a bad thing to have variety.

I LOVE THE NEW WEBSITE LAYOUT

  • MistaButters

Hopefully it’s not just paint or that phone will be scratch city in weeks.

    • EC8CH

it’s aluminum so you’d think it would just be gold colored anodizing (still scratch prone though)

  • Elden Lashley

Just commenting to say the new website design is gorgeous, nice work

    • Tim242

What’s that? We’re pretending there isn’t a website refresh and we’re just commenting like normal? I’m down! WOo!

I guess the writers of DL all use mobile devices, because if I use my phone the site looks outstanding. Try using it on a large monitor though and your head is moving back and forth for every line. I couldn’t even read the Nexus 5 review without making my browser window 4″ across.

    Why!!!!??

  • Tom Luley

HTC: Lets just release the same phone in different sizes and different colors to try and trick everyone that we are making a new phone and being original. GREAT IDEA GUYZ!

    • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

We… everyone does the color refresh, especially around the holidays. It’s just a way to give another option for people who haven’t bought a device yet, that’s all.

    • Maxim∑

I welcome the gold metal color in the iPhone and now htc one I don’t see how this is a bad thing
