Verizon Moto X in Black or White Drops to $0.01 at Amazon for Upgrades and New Lines

moto x amazon deal

We’re fully aware that Motorola’s MotoMaker customization service has finally arrived for the Verizon variant of the Moto X and that you can snatch one up for an incredibly low $50 price, but what if you only have a single cent to your name yet still need a great phone? Amazon has you covered for the time being. For a penny ($0.01), Amazon will hook you up with either a black or white Moto X on Verizon. The deal is for new lines of service or upgrades, so everyone is essentially eligible.

There is no telling how long this deal will last, as the Moto X price has been jumping all over the place over the last couple of weeks.

And don’t forget that the Verizon Moto X is the first to receive Android 4.4 Kit Kat, an update that started rolling out today. We’ve already taken you on a tour with it and showed the world how to get Google Wallet up and running.

Cheers Jason!

    Not for upgrade

  • bluefolder

Anyone have experience buying a phone like this on a new contract, and then just canceling it right away and paying the $350 ETF?

Are there other fees that you’d have to pay? Would you have to pay for the first full month of service? $350 + 0.01 = a lot cheaper than the off-contract price.

  • Nerds Logic

Ordered. Best Christmas gift bought so far for this year…

  • Raven

Moto needs to run a sale on the Moto X dev edition. Come on Moto support the devs instead of jacking them for extra money.

  • David Benson

I posted this on Slickdeals on Monday….

  • acashe42

I need a good off contract price, i refuse to give up my unlimited data…

  • NexusMan

Loving, loving, loving this onslaught of Moto X excitement…but WHERE IS THE WOOD???

  • possomcrast1

I’m so tempted by the Moto X only I don’t want to leave the 1080p screen on my HTC One. I know some might/have said it isn’t noticeable, but I can definitely see it after using 1080p screens for a year. I’m really hoping the X2 comes out soon with a 1080p screen.

    • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

You can tell the difference but the Htc One is just a great phone. I second guess selling mine, though I did and cancelled my VZW contract and went N5 pre paid

    • Tom Luley

I went from a GS4 to the Moto X and yeah, the screen isnt as clear, but the colors on the Moto X screen pop like none other. Maybe I had a defect GS4, but I enjoy the screen due to the colors being so vibrant just as much as the GS4 screen

  • cgalyon

Would love to do it, but waiting for my wife’s line’s contract to end and then probably looking at going elsewhere (Republic or T-Mobile) to save money. It’s hard with all of these great phones coming out and even harder when they go on sale. Still, I love how competitive the phone marketplace is (not the carriers, just the phones).

  • Bennotae

I don’t care. I am leaving Verizon. I will never again get a phone on contract

    • j

No contracts for me either.. Swappa. 6 month old GS4 for $350 is fine by me.

      • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

$350? I just sold mine for $430 with a used seidio case. But then again I sell my phones based on them being in pristine condition…. is yours scratched? Don’t lowball if you don’t have to

        • j

Slight dings, but nothing serious at all. $400 is a more realistic rate, but I scored a good deal :) Note2 is sub $400 as well.

    • Chris Hughes

Ditto. Just got an HTC one for 300 on ebay. Mint condition

  • shelderman

Anyone who had the galaxy nexus and now the moto x, does the screen seem smaller. I know both are 4.7 but the screen seems smaller to me

    • Scott

      Smaller bezels.

    • William_Morris

The screen actually seems larger, the phone itself seems smaller. Kellen has it right though, the phone feels phenomenal in hand. And the screen is much nicer (non-pentile).

  • mattybeee

The off contract price on this phone is still ludicrous

  • Kelly

Damn, couldn’t wait for the wood. Had to order this

  • Brian

Sadly, Can’t move upgrade to correct line for the phone. O well.

  • Fiorta

What is the process for using an upgrade on a non smartphone line to keep unlimited data?

  • JJ69Chev

You cant get a custom X from motomaker for $50 anymore that deal ended on Tuesday

    • gpzbc

      Bummer…..

  • KnappyRoot

Can someone walk me through the process of what I would need to do to get this and keep my unlimited if my upgrade is not until next year? Would I have to add a line to my account and then switch sim cards and then switch this new line to a dumb phone plan? I know I could just buy a Moto X off eBay or Swappa but I am thinking it might be cheaper to do it this way.

    • DroidzFX

Open new line then transfer phone to your line and pay the 10$ per month for the extra line.

    • cgalyon

I would recommend buying off Swappa, particularly if you’re willing to consider the black or white phones (rather than Moto Maker). Getting locked into a contract for the savings… well, it’s not worth it to me anyway. It’s kind of unclear if Verizon will be discontinuing unlimited data across the board next year. If you sign up for or extend a contract on another line, then you could drop your unlimited data line, but you’re still stuck with the other line in a contract (because they didn’t change the terms of *that* line’s contract). At least that’s my understanding.

I recommend patience or purchasing outright so you’re protected in the event they discontinue unlimited, but it’s truly a personal choice. I’m in a similar boat and I’m kind of just going to wait unless I can get a new device for about $200 (e.g., Swappa).

  • NAM37

Why are there never sales on un-subsidized phones… :(

    • King Lo

      Because you live in America.

    • CinCityKid80
      • hkklife

That was not a sale….that was a once in a lifetime pricing glitch that Amazon happened to honor for some because they are awesome.

You won’t see a reduction in the godawful full retail price of phones (especially VZW & Sprint) until CDMA and its myriad of IP/fees/royalties to Qualcomm is finally put out to pasture. And I don’t see VZW going to VoLTE anytime soon outside of a few test markets given the horrendous speeds their overwhelmed LTE network has as of late.

The fact that they are bringing the Moto G as a 3G-only prepaid offering in 2014 speaks volumes, keeping in mind they hadn’t released a 3G postpaid smartphone since the Droid 3, X2 and Droid Inc2 in 2011!

All AT&T would need to do is bring back an unlimited LTE plan, even as a short term promotion, and I would probably jump ship.

  • Jaime Kerr

Cmon Amazon, drop a deal on the Moto’s bigger brother, the MAXX

    • King Lo

You can get interest free financing through Motorola now. Use that…

      • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

you can?…. Aren’t those usually tied to a credit card of some sort these days?

        • King Lo

It’s a credit account similar to bill-me later. Or a Computer financing account. No interest for X amount of months after which the interest is probably something absurd usually in the high 20′s.

          • Bill Hewins

The interest rate is 28.99% if you don’t pay it off in 6,12 or 18 months. You get to choose the duration.

  • Curious

With MotoMaker you can send your phone in within a few days (weeks?) of purchase to change your order if you don’t like it IIRC. Could you do that with a MotoX bought from amazon? For example, could I buy a white X from amazon and send it in to motorola to change the back plate to Royal Blue?

    • needa

only motomaker. its more of a ‘you have not seen it yet, so we will give you one opportunity to change it’ type thing.

      • http://www.mecha-digital.com/ Jason@MechaDigital

I brought this up in the comments to another article, but I’m wondering about cracking the thing open and swapping on a wood back when the finally show up. There are some backs on ebay now. Looking at ifixit, the X isn’t the easiest phone to open, but it seems doable as a one-time thing. Just don’t know if I’d have the stones to do so…

        • needa

yah you know there is a post in the xda moto x accessories forum on the backs. there is a walkthrough on there for just replacing the back.

          • http://www.mecha-digital.com/ Jason@MechaDigital

Thanks – just took a look and it seems very promising! The camera lens is an annoyance, but not a deal breaker.

  • Omar Amer

Goes from $200 for new lines/upgrade to practically giving the phone away before the year even ended. Is Moto already planning on a Moto X2 by early summer?

    • Kanaga Deepan N

They better plan with that 3500mAh battery in X2, imho..

      • NexusMan

Moto X doesn’t need it. Why would you put a bulkier battery and make the phone less comortable, when the phone already has amazing battery life, and lasts a full day? So the spec can “look good on paper?” Stick with the ergonomics, Moto.

        • anezarati

yeah i think it is a holiday deal more than anything.

    • Suralin

More likely answer – MotoMaker is open to everyone and these are companies trying to get rid of their stock of standard Black and White Moto X’s.

    • NexusMan

Amazon has these kinds of deals on all kinds of phones, this time every year.

    • https://plus.google.com/114483312559013915960/ Timoh

I would say they are already working on one, will announce it early summer and release it mid summer without exclusivity. It makes sense that the X and G will be yearly devices.

    • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

      DROID…….X2?

      • Blue Sun

        I think you meant X3? :p
