Pick up a Moto X in Black or White From Verizon for Free on Contract

moto x

Customers that look to grab either a white or black Moto X on Verizon through a two year deal can get the device for free, with the use an online coupon code. Unfortunately, this is not available for those who want to use MotoMaker, but if you like plainly-colored devices anyway, then a free Moto X on Big Red is a good deal.

The device is already listed at just $50 on contract, but if you insert the code “vzwdeal” at checkout, you will get your new phone for completely free.

Get on it.

Via: Verizon

Cheers Jigga_Z!

  • Jon Stamos

Looks like Verizon raised the price from $50 to $99 for the Moto X. The “vzwdeal” still works and brings it down to $49. What’s the point of discounting an item just to raise the price by the same amount?

  • t0ked

Just picked this up on the VZW deal! I was shopping for a phone for my dad. He played with both the X and an S4 and told me had no preference. His criteria are ease of use, battery life, and voice quality (hes a talker, not a texter). Across various sites, the unanimous choice seemed to be the X. Both are free on contract (S4 has numerous sales on/near black friday, too). now for my mom who wants a Note…

  • Pat Leck

Wow I actually want color like blue or red, now that is cool. http://68e1509c.theseforums.com

  • Ahku Droid

How about a Developer or Play Edition for Verizon retail price on the cheap. I really hate that Verizon is so draconian about their phones. They started the revolution with the OG Droid, but pulled away the open awesome. They are like crack dealers letting you get your first fix.

  • James Hill

If you missed the G2 Sale, this might make you feel better.

  • http://www.mecha-digital.com/ Jason@MechaDigital

I noticed backplates are starting to show up on eBay. I really want a black X with a wood back. What do you guys think about the possibility of modding this phone? I read through the iFixit tear down and it looks moderately involved, but as a one time deal.

I just have a bad feeling that it’s going to be a while before the wood backs show up and when they do it’s going to cost you.

  • C-Law

I love this phone. Best Android phone for me. Blew away my s4

  • G2andLovingit

i almost bought a MOto X for the near-stock android (coming from a Galaxy Nexus). But after researching and playing with all flagships…. I couldn’t pass up the G2. One heck of a phone.

  • Jeremy Martin

I just bit…I upgraded both of my phones just now. Code worked and they are both free.

  • CensoredByU

Nah that’s okay you can keep your mid spec’d flagship..

    • Adrynalyne

That runs smoother than most high end specced flagships.

You kids and your spec sheets…

      • CensoredByU

“That runs smoother than most high end specced flagships” Abstract a subject to each persons opinion. How’s the smooth camera experience working out for you?

Yea what was that 500,000 sold so far, and that’s after a very expensive marketing campaign? Apparently us “kids” have a similar opinion. But hey if your dumb enough to think this device is a “flagship”, don’t let me stop you….

        • Adrynalyne

Camera isn’t so hot on the Note 3 either. So there goes your argument.

          http://www.unwiredview.com/2013/11/12/500k-units-shipped-in-q3-moto-x-is-a-big-success-for-google-and-motorola/#!

But hey, if you want to baaaaa with the rest of the spec sheet sheep, feel free.

Monkey see, monkey do. Monkey want a banana?

          • CensoredByU

Moto fantard with link bait to an opinion piece. Hemorrhaging billions because Moto can’t compete won’t last for long. And mocking a camera that still out performs the Moto X is even more fantarded. And if you haven’t experienced a device with a Snapdragon 800 you have no room to compare.

Monkey see, monkey do, Monkey shove a banana up his ass?

          • Adrynalyne
          • CensoredByU

And this is supposed to impress anyone fantard??? Clearly your head is already up your ass no room for a banana.

          • Adrynalyne

You are proven wrong about my experience and this is the best you can come up with?

          • Adrynalyne
          • CensoredByU

So your to dumb for a note 3 fine down grade. Probably make some cash in the process fantard.

          • Adrynalyne

What causes people to refer to others as fantards? Is it because your family tree never branched?

You are shown to be wrong about your petty assumptions and then all you can do is resort to namecalling.

          • CensoredByU

Fantard is some one beyond reason so self absorbed that they’re never wrong. You bought the wrong device didn’t do your homework. Sell it buy a Moto X and move on with your life. No longer feeding the fantard.

          • Adrynalyne

Wow, it actually bothers you that I don’t worship Samsung.

Sorry, I worship no brand. I guess it is tough for followers such as yourself to see such things.

  • iNfAMOUS70702

motorola sold a midrange phone…at high end prices…touted their fancy customization features…that was exclusive to ONE carrier…great strategy!….this phone was doomed to fail before it even came out…the only thing moto got right from the beginning with this device was the touchless controls………..that the DROIDS had -___- ….plus i just dont get why google/motorola cant ever get the cameras right…instagram worthy? yes but thats about it

  • Raven

I just want the Developer Edition off contract. Any good deals there?

  • Cinemagfx

So I’m confused. Is this just a bug?

    • http://www.baldypal.com/ BaldyPal

here is what you do. click that button, design then buy. then contact VZW customer service and tell them to honor the VZWDEAL since the motomaker site wouldn’t take it. it worked for me on both my phones i bought.

      • Cinemagfx

when getting it month to month?

        • http://www.baldypal.com/ BaldyPal

Ha, i didnt even notice that in your screenshot. my bad. i was referring to a 2yr contract price. got both my motomakers for $0.00 each.

        • IDunnoMyName

I can’t see that. I wish I could (and, of course, that it was real).

  • TheDrunkenClam

Should have mentioned this is only for the 16GB version.

    • TheDrunkenClam

      Please help…
I am the primary account holder on my Family share plan. I have my line, which is grandfathered unlimited. My dad’s line, which is 4gb cap and the contract ends Dec 12. And my sister’s line which is 4gb cap and the contract ends April 20.
Since I am no longer in a contract, can I switch to Tmobile? Or is that not an option since the other two are in a contract?
I’m going to go ahead and assume I won’t be able to sell my Unlimited data to anyone else?
      Please help!
The more information you can give, the better.

      • http://www.mecha-digital.com/ Jason@MechaDigital

I’m actually in the same boat, would like to know as well

        • TheDrunkenClam

Upvote my post so it gets read.. I upvoted your reply

          • http://www.mecha-digital.com/ Jason@MechaDigital

            Done

      • Adrynalyne

        You can switch.

Your other lines cannot. My thoughts are that you simply transfer the primary account holder to another line.

        • TheDrunkenClam

          how do i do this???
          Thanks for the info sir

          • Adrynalyne

Mind you, this information is dated (I did it years ago) but:

I called them and they switched the primary line to my wife.

It might require a credit check.

  • Stevedub40

Awesome! Thanks for showing me this, I just bought one for $49.99, so I called them and got the credit. Too bad CA charges tax on the full retail price. Greedy bastards.

  • Walkingonwires

did this stop working? did vzw get wise?

  • cjlee89

If you bought your phone within the 14 day return period, dial *611 and get a price match. I bought mine at full contract price in store on 11/2. Called in the next day and for $60 taken off for the Verizon30 code. Called in today and got $100 bill credit PLUS a $50 MIR for the price drop.

  • hokieputter

looks like the $50 off sale may apply when ordering from VZW iconic portal. the savings didn’t show up while checking out, but they did in my confirmation email. we’ll see what my card gets charged. standard black or white. no motomaker.

    • hokieputter

so my card got charged the full $480.36. not $50 savings unfortunately..

  • http://www.baldypal.com/ BaldyPal

I was successful in talking the VZW customer service rep into honoring the the VZWDEAL on my motomaker version, but only because i started the process on the verizon site by clicking on the “design yours” button. they said they could see a purchase record that originated from their site and redirected me to motorolas site to finish the process. give them a call and push until they say yes.

    • IDunnoMyName

I’ve been trying, and failing, to get this to work on the 32gb version.

    • Nate

They are being suborn as balls. Got any tips?

      • http://www.baldypal.com/ BaldyPal

You could tell them that other representatives are honoring the code for other Verizon customers. They should also honor it for you not just one or two.

        • Nate

That’s what I said. You’ve been my “friend” for the past 20min. I said that VZ did it for you, why not me? They kept saying that they “had no way to do that because it was handled by Motorola”.

Just got off the phone and no dice. I think I’m gonna call back in a few and hope I get a different representative.

        • Nate

Where did you get the money credited?

          • http://www.baldypal.com/ BaldyPal

            my Verizon bill.

          • http://www.baldypal.com/ BaldyPal

            my Verizon account

  • IDunnoMyName

Man, I wish there was a way to use the coupon on Motomaker (or that Verizon offered the 32gb version). I am thinking about returning my G2 for this. Talk me out of it…

  • Walkingonwires

why is the code not working???

  • thefullritz

Very tempting…..gnex is just about ready to retire…..moto x or droid maxx?

    • cjlee89

Moto X! I get about 39 hours battery life with light to moderate usage. This is with a full charge and then about 20-25 minute charge the next morning.

  • gokusimpson

    Son of a…

  • jimmyf101

Was literally about to pay $50 for a Moto Maker version…..or just go with basic black or white for free?!?!?!

    • cjlee89

I just covered mine up with a TPU case….that is black. I wouldn’t see the color anyway. BUT you will be able to get 32gb version rather than 16gb.

    • TheDrunkenClam

      Yeah but I couldn’t figure out how to buy the 32GB version . . . . . ????

  • Guy Pierce

Um… Who cares? I’m still switching for the N5. Stop begging customers to come back.

    • Adrynalyne

Ironic that you still cared enough to respond.

      • Guy Pierce

Agreed. Also trying to save people from a another two year mistake that we will all hear about later on here.

  • Chase Chick

I nabbed this thing on motomaker for $50, and told the VZW rep if they tried to charge me an upgrade fee I was going with a Nexus 5 on Straight Talk, and taking my mom along with me. Next thing you know, “activation fee” was credited back to the account for both me and my mom. Wise move VZW. Wise move…

    • calculatorwatch

Someone should write a long article about the art of threatening VZW. It seems to work for a lot of people especially long-time customers who are fed up with price hikes. Verizon clearly has so much money they don’t mind giving it up here or there to keep customers, but I’d like to know just how much people have managed to get by threatening to leave.

      • Chase Chick

I wouldn’t say it works for everyone, or something that should just be done willy nilly. I had a legitimate concern and was serious about going with the N5, and let them know my intentions. I really wasn’t just trying to scare them to get them to drop the fee, it was something I was literally going to do. I’ve literally had the N5 in a cart on the google play website multiple times this past week!

    • Nate

Who did you talk to about that? I gotta know. I would love to get that dumb fee reimbursed.

      • Chase Chick

It wasn’t reimbursed really, they just credited it back to my account. Threatening to leave (and staying calm and matter of fact about it) was good enough for them to know I was serious, which I was. I don’t know who I talked to, called on the phone.

        • Nate

That’s awesome, lol. I’ll give that a shot.

    • Craig P

You’ve inspired me to get my fee waived… I went on VZW chat, and I’m getting my upgrade fee waived now.

  • hokieputter

just picked one up for $449 from the VZW iconic portal. couldn’t hold out any longer to see what happens to the off contract pricing over the holidays.

  • https://www.facebook.com/findjaysee Joshua

That’s pretty cool. Unfortunately my Galaxy Nexus wouldn’t have been able to hold on until now. Not to mention my support now goes to At&t (what I’d consider the lesser of 2 evils). Haven’t had a complaint. I used my Best Buy RewardZone points to snag the Moto X for $99 not too long ago. Been VERY happy ever since.

  • http://www.twitter.com/nblufire12 Nathan Patel

LG G2 more worth it thooo

    • joejoe5709

I grabbed a free G2 last weekend. Hoping it drops down again so that the wifey can get a free one as well.

      • http://www.twitter.com/nblufire12 Nathan Patel

i just mine last weekend too and its been everything i hoped for as a GNex upgrade. running CM nightly just like my GNex did!

  • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

Free without contract also when stolen from the person who got it free on contract.

  • guest

Just make it $299 off contract already. We’ve seen the sales figures.

    • MK17

      Link Please.

    • TJWaterskier

Have we? I’ve heard terrible things.. but never seen an actual source.

      • Timothy McGovern
        • Adrynalyne

That just translates that Moto cannot market themselves. If people really knew about the Moto X, those numbers would have been better.

Samesung doesn’t make better products, but they know how to market them.

          • Timothy McGovern

I’m fine with it right now because I’m getting a good phone for free. I really want to see moto succeed in the long run though.

          • Adrynalyne

I do too. Competition spurs innovation.

          • Dave

Just thing if Samsung sold a Moto X.

          • Adrynalyne

            Mind = Blown

          • hokieputter

it would suck because it would have touchwiz on it..

          • NexusMan

and crappy battery life. And horrible radios.

          • crazed_z06

I don’t think marketing is the problem. The moto X is just kind of a boring device. I played with it at the store and it worked great but it was just another smartphone. It’s hard a sell against something like the galaxy s4 with all its features. Call them gimmicks or whatever, but people like bells and whistles.

          • Adrynalyne

I felt the S3 and S4 were equally as boring, so I disagree with you there.

          • crazed_z06

That’s fine. The market doesn’t disagree with me.

          • Adrynalyne

Perfect example of assumptions right there.

Please show me some hard data that the reason the Moto X isn’t selling is because it is boring.

Business 101 says marketing is the reason. If people don’t know about your product, they won’t buy it. Same goes for if you don’t show people why they should buy your product.

Samesung has this down to a science.

          • crazed_z06

I’ve seen a lot of moto X commercials. The moto X is a phone for android hipsters. Having less features and lesser specs is only a selling point for nerds on tech blogs. Every one else is looking for the most bang for the buck. Hence the reason the moto X is now free oon contract.

          • Adrynalyne

            For hipsters?

            That is cute.

          • crazed_z06

Android hipsters.. the guys who swear specs don’t matter, stock Android is best, and think Samsung success is based only on marketing and gimmicks..

          • Adrynalyne

Ah. Those who know the truth about what is going on.

You are as bad as Richard Yarrell, sucking at the Samsun teat.

          • Gnex

Oh god, that f*cker is literally everywhere. Here, Android Police, Phandroid, YouTube, G+… Oh, the horror.

          • C-Law

Dude ur crazy. No one I know with the s series uses all those features. I switched from an s4 and will never look back. And all my friends who have seen active notifications love it. My gf no longer wants to upgrade her s3 to a note 3 BC of that and motomaker. Moto has a bright future, they just need to give it time for people to see their friends with this phone and for contracts to endend so prime can upgrade. Give it a year, I think moto will be competing nicely by then

          • crazed_z06

Since we’re using anecdotal evidence here, no one I know even has a moto x.. don’t even know what it is lol.

          • NexusMan

No one I know who owns a Galaxy S 4 uses those features. When they get it, they all show off, the waving to wake the phone to their friends, and then that’s about it. To the contrary, all of the “real people” I know who own the phone have the same sentiments: “This is an amazing phone, but the features are too much. I’ll never know how to use all of these things.”

          • NexusMan

The Moto X IS selling, however, it has gotten to a slower (than expected by some) start because of it’s (I think mistake) AT&T Moto Maker exclusivity. I’m dying to get this phone, but would not buy a white or black 16gb version of a phone, when a fully customizable color/material 32 gb version was coming up. Motorola also deliberately held back the marketing, to an extent, until the AT&T exclusivity ended. Now that Moto Maker is widely available, I see Moto X commercials NON STOP, tens of times a day. It’s crazy. Because of this “staged rollout,” it is unfair to compare 5 weeks of sales of this US only device to the global sales of other devices that have been out for 6 plus months, and marketed fully from the get. Now that Moto Maker is widely available, and the wood backs are allegedly still coming before Christmas, we can get a more accurate feel of the “success” by looking at total sales of the device after Q1of next year.

          • CensoredByU

            No good Moto fantard troll.

          • Adrynalyne

Keep talking little man. Tough talking on the Internet is safe for you, so enjoy it.

          • CensoredByU

Coming In hard on a tech blog. Buy a Moto X sell your note 3 make some cash and move on.. And for the record I’m not little man all be it most of that is mid section..

          • Adrynalyne

            Whatever you say tubby.

          • CensoredByU

Fantards are so funny threaten people because their morons. Pathetic… I wonder if your boyfriend gets a black eye if he disagrees with you.

          • Adrynalyne

Poor widdle tubby is getting mad, LOL.

          • NexusMan

No one I know thinks the Moto X is boring, so I’d say they all disagree with you.

          • guesswhat

moto x has better features than s4 hands downs, there is no discussion about it ..it not about how many features you have its about how often you use ..in that category moto x has awesome features ..cannot think of using a phone doesn’t have touchless control/active notifications and trusted Bluetooth devices ..you are freaking mad to say that s4 has better features than X. You are just a different kind sheep (compared to i phone sheep) who think that numbers on paper and counting number features is better ..who ever actually used moto x as a daily driver will not agree with you

          • crazed_z06

No discussion about it eh? lol. The Moto X is stock Android with touchless control. I will concede that it’s a cool feature, but is far from the killer app that motorola fans think it is.

Overall, the S4 is a better phone than the X. Faster, better camera, bigger battery, expandable storage, etc, etc. When you consider the entire package for both devices, youll understand why one is now free on contract after being out for a couple months and the other still costs 200 after being out for like 6 months.

People arent just buying Samsung devices because they saw a Samsung commercial. They actually make really good Android devices. Android hipsters are too blinded by their hatred of Touchwiz to realize this though.

Luckily Android hipsters dont dictate the direction of Android Smartphones.

          • Adrynalyne

It is sad that you are too blind by brand loyalty to see the flaws in your argument.

          • crazed_z06

This is all subjective and a matter of opinion. Difference is my opinion is supported by the fact that Samsung owns 63% of the android market and yours is supported by the comments section on DROID life.

          • Adrynalyne

            Typical fanboy reply.

This is what you are saying:

Its all subjective and opinion, but MY opinion is right!

You must be related to Richard Yarrell.

Samsung has that market share because they marketed themselves. The others screwed up.

          • crazed_z06

Lol if you say so. This reminds me of people who claim apple is only successful because of marketing. It’s like no one stopped to think that the iPhone is actually a great device.. nope.. All marketing!

Marketing only takes you so far. At a certain point, you need to make a product that can sell own it’s merits. Sadly the moto X is not such a product.
            http://news.yahoo.com/motorola-still-huge-drag-google-164046017.html

          • Adrynalyne

You are being ridiculous. How much marketshare would Samsung have if they marketed as much as Moto has? Answer that seriously when you get a chance. If you think it would be much of anything, you are kidding yourself.

It doesn’t matter how great your device is if you cannot market yourself.

Have a good evening sir, I am finished with this silliness.

          • NexusMan

Your argument doesn’t even make sense. That 63% of WORLDWIDE sales were made before this US ONLY DEVICE even came out. That’s like me saying the original Star Wars movie is a better movie than a movie that opened this weekend, because Star Wars has made so much more money than this new film, And then saying, “well, hundreds of millions of people support my argument.”

          • crazed_z06

Alright man, when the Motorola begins to pose a threat to Samsung due to the awesome moto X, I’ll happily come back here and eat crow. Somehow I doubt the moto X will have any bearing on anything when it comes to Samsung dominance

          • Adrynalyne

You sound just like the crazed Windows fanboys, despite GNU/Linux and OS X being better OSes.

Herpa derp, my market share is bigger than yours!

          • CensoredByU

You know when you’re not being a jerk you’re funny as hell..

          • guesswhat

dude at the end of the day you are talking about phone you havent used ..i used S4 before returning and to try X, hands down X has better usability and features ..sure as you say its subjective ..for you s4 is better (even though you never really used X to make a fair comparison, playing with it in store doesnot count) even if we discount that ..Samsung has all the market share they have in android not just because they make great devices, its mostly because of there awesome and wide distribution capability all around the globe and great marketing, and ofcourse they make good quality devices ..but who doesn’t make good quality android device these days? htc one is awesome g2 is awesome ..you cannot justify the humongous market share of samsung by just saying that it because s4 is a great device ..its mainly because of wide distribution, samsung brand awareness and marketing ..

Moto X has Touchless controls, has a cleaner interface, minimal bloatware, Active Display, Trusted Bluetooth, Contextual Awareness, allows you to receive texts on your desktop computer, allows you to easily migrate your Android phone’s content to it or for iPhone users you can simply enter in your iCloud credentials, then your Google credentials, and your Apple data will be transferred from one to the other, it has better battery life than the S4, better build quality, is smaller while still maintaing a large display (for the many who like that), is more ergonomic and feels better in the hand than the S4. Not to mention is fully customizable…don’t know where you read “Touchless control,” was the only feature, but you’re wrong.

Most of the people that have Samsung devices look like “hipsters” as you call them, or are foreigners (tourists, most likely). Trying to use hipster with a negative connotation doesn’t work because actually, those are the types of people Samsung want (as they steal market share from Apple). There are also real hipsters (independent counter-culturist) and those that just dress like them. And, if you ever walked onto Google’s campus, you just might label a lot of those people “hipsters.” You shouldn’t throw stones, you know?

And Samsung needs to work on their organization in their settings. They’re clusterf_cked everywhere. Never have I wondered aloud where the hell a setting is until I played with my friend’s Note 3. And most of the gimmicky features usually only work in Samsung apps or an app that has support for it.

TouchWiz looks antiquated and needs MOAR specs because the coding is so blatantly awful that they throw more horsepower at the problem instead of fixing it. The proof in that pudding is Samsung’s own Bench Booster app that also ramps up CPU/GPU frequencies for its own Samsung apps.

I think it is a little of both. As one of the linked articles mentioned, the motomaker exclusivity with AT&T hurt the Xs sales on other carriers. Plus when I went into two different VZ stores, they had the Moto X over next to the irrelevant phones like the windows phones and another one that I can’t even remember. But they had the new Droid phones displayed under a huge new Droid wall display to catch your attention. Since the new Droid phones have the active display and the touchless control, what is the incentive to even look at the Moto X (at least on VZ)? I think the X would have done much better with motomaker available on all carriers from the start, plus better store display spots.

Once I used active notifications, I can never go without it again. Moto did good,. I switched from an s4 and don’t ever see myself going back as long as moto stays this good. This is my favorite phone ever

        • TJWaterskier

Thanks for the source.. only thing that bothers me is they say 500,000 in “Q3″ … so it sold 500,000 in a few weeks. It’s obviously not selling as well as an S4.. but I think the article is a bit tailored to make it seem worse than it is. I think many people, especially on this site, were waiting to Motomaker on Verizon haha. Hopefully we’ll see those numbers grow now.

          *Edited: A word

          • Timothy McGovern

I don’t think the average person knew Verizon would be getting motomaker. droid-life is only a very small fraction of Verizon customers. I think the sales will go up around Christmas. But Motorola is eventually going to need a better marketing strategy.

          • biased_source

And that’s only sales in the US. Also consider that most people that want or would want a Moto X is for the customization, which during that time was limited to AT&T only. So it’s probably a majority of those are on AT&T alone, which is quite impressive actually.

Now that Motomaker is live to everyone and prices have come down a little, plus I’m starting to see more commercials, and once wood backs become available, I bet sales will skyrocket.

          • bobsagetstits

You’re talking about 6 months after it’s already been released. They’ll get it right next time and won’t do this exclusivity crap and have everything avaliable at launch. Then they’ll see some true sales figures that will make them smile.

          • Adrynalyne

The other thing is they have to re-establish their name. Until that happens, they won’t get as many sales either. It will be years before they become a force to be reckoned with (if ever). Depending on Google of course, who sucks at marketing hardware.

          • James Hill

I see the Moto X-2 coming next summer with an updated version of ART, right out of the box. I agree with you Adry, the Motorola brand is old, but MotoGoogle need to keep up with what they started here with the X’s reputation of innovation. The whole voiceless control, innovative hardware design, and underlying software improvement on the Moto X make the Moto X (and the new DROIDs) for that matter great phones. I don’t know if you the same Adrynalyne from XDA, but if you are thank you for you support in Android community development.

Marketing is very powerful. Sammy sold something like 6 million S4 just on preorder ….then like 20 million in 30 days.

          • pappy53

10 million in first month, not 20 million

          • calculatorwatch

THANK YOU! The Moto X strategy has clearly always been a slow start and people have been quoting 500,000 units not realizing it’s been a month and a half since then. Not to mention we’ve seen no quote from anyone at Google declaring it to be a disappointment (Google hasn’t been shy about criticising Moto’s progress in the past). Hopefully they are just about to start the real marketing push with MotoMaker available everywhere and the $100 price drop and once the Q4 numbers come out we can really decide how it did.

        • Diablo81588

Two weeks of sales in Q3..

        • Render

This article is very biased, there are a number of factors for only 500k devices…the three biggest:
          1. People were waiting for the Nexus 5
          2. The device was only out for 1.5 months in Q3
          3. Moto Maker exclusivity to AT&T (others on differing carriers have been holding out for it)

Q4 sales will be more telling as to how the Moto X is actually selling…and I expect positive results given the reaction I have seen at work to my phone (moto x) being extremely fast, but most importantly the perfect size…

That article is dumb and misleading. It compares an ESTIMATED 500,000 Moto X sales in the THIRD QUARTER to 10 million actual sales of the Galaxy S 4. What it fails to mention is that the Moto X was only available for 5 weeks in the Third Quarter. Also, as mentioned partially, in the article, 2 of Moto’s biggest selling points: physical customization on all major carriers as well as the larger 32gb storage option, have just become available a few days ago. Many people, myself included, wanted to and plan to buy the phone, but have purposely waited for Moto Maker to open up to other carriers. Some of us, again, myself included, are continuing to wait even longer, until the wood options become available….On a side note, I don’t know if anyone else has noticed, but they’ve really ramped up promotion since Moto Maker opened up to all carriers: I see the Moto X commercials CONSTANTLY now…multiple times during a single television show.

          • Adrynalyne

Don’t mess with the Samsung crowd, they will fight to the death over their beloved brand. There can be no better device than a Samsung. /s

          • C-Law

I switched. Had a s3, note 2, and s4. The moto x was so much better. I couldn’t be happier. I hated the s4 battery life and it was a little too big. I tried cm10.2 on it and it didn’t help with the battery. Screen on moto x looks just as good IMHO bc it’s rgb stripe and not pentile like the s4

    • HotRodJohnson

      Early adopters!

    • mattybeee

$399 off contract – 32GB and I’m in. The retail price on this phone is absurd

      • hokieputter

can get a non-motomaker 16GB for $399 right now.. so the prices are coming down.. slowly..

        • http://www.baldypal.com/ BaldyPal

oops didn’t mean to reply o this one.

        • michael arazan

          Said $449 on vzw site

          • hokieputter

See the pic I posted above. I ordered through the iconic portal yesterday and paid $399 plus tax.

  • Christopher Battista

    So it’s free * 2?

  • JRUIV

Anybody receive the OTA for 2013 N7?

  • marko358

Wow that was quick. This thing is turning into the Surface tablet. Have to give them away now.

    • Adrynalyne

      This aint an HTC device.

    • CaptainDisillusion

Just the black/white versions. No one wants those now that Motomaker is out, I assume.

      I like my Moto X :(

    • Adam Truelove

Umm, isn’t the Moto X in the running for best Android phone ever right along with the Nexus 5. They’re the top 2 in my opinion.

      • Adrynalyne

        You are such a hipster.

        See crazed_z06’s comments for reference.

        • CaptainDisillusion

          Hah

      • iNfAMOUS70702

average consumer has no clue wtf AOSP is or even means…they want all the bells and whistles so those devices are out of the running…ex GF has a nexus 4 and thinks it is the most boring device ever…she was jealous of my note 3s features

        • Adrynalyne

Neither Moto X or Nexus 5 run AOSP out of the box.

  • Daistaar

A free Moto X for free?! Score!

    • Adrynalyne

At the cost of your soul for the next 2 years.

      • Daistaar

Ohh no no no my friend. I made that jump to T-Mobile in September and have never looked back (not without a huge smile on face).

        • David Narada Brown

but this isnt a t mobile deal its a verizon 1.

          • Daistaar

Hey David put your hands up quick! LOL I’m actually happily on a GS4 with unlimited everything on T-Mo. The only thing that really interests me for the X is the Skip accessory.

          • Eric

I don’t see how any of your comments are relevant to the conversation….

          • BSweetness

That’s because they fixed the title of the article. If you would have seen its initial title, his original comment would make a little more sense.

          • Eric

Yeah but every comment since then is irrelevant.

          • Adrynalyne

Its Friday. Lets all smoke a bong and get along.

          • Daistaar

Not really, as a T-mobile user the offer doesn’t really pertain to me; I get that. It’s not a bad deal but the only comment I had replied to was a clarification that I wouldn’t have been selling my soul for a device I would not be getting. Again to clarify, I realize that this was a Verizon deal and don’t believe I’ve been detracting from it.

          • JoshGroff
          • Daistaar

The heading as can be seen in the URL of this page said free moto x for free. That’s called redundancy and was mocked in various comments before your arrival. The heading has since been updated to correctly use a singular instance of free.

          • bobsagetstits

Please don’t let the skip influence your decision of whether to purchase this or not. it’s a gimmick. I had it, not very good in real-world usage.

    • BobButtons

Precisely what I came here to say.

    • Adam Truelove

It’s shocking that they’re not charging anything for a free Moto X.

    • Pierito

Awww they edited it out of the title :/ now people will never who what happened here today.

    • Stnkycheezman

Does that mean moto will be paying you to take the Moto G on contract?
