Cheers JB, Mike, Danny, and Greg!

  • Ed Pitcher

Sweet, just got one. Thank you.

  • FelisLachesis

Did the deal just die? I can’t find it, anywhere, on Sprint’s site.

  • Sailor Psychic

Thanks for the heads up, Tim. Just ordered one for my Verizon GNex — hope it fits. I really needed a new battery, too, since mine is old and doesn’t last too long these days.

  • TimTheK

    Looks like they sold out….

  • spickle

fresh new extended to get me by until i jump ship. thanx DL!

  • Eric

    Isn’t it a bit late?

  • Chris VanAnden

You realize that link leaves your phone number in it right?

    • ToddAwesome

quick, everyone call him and tell him how awesome he is!

    • Michael Hammond

Here’s a pro tip – don’t answer unknown phone calls. Even better, download a call blocker app so you don’t even see the caller ….

Free battery is worth a missed call or 2.

  • triumphtriple

I just payed $25 for one of these 1 week ago. Ugggg

  • KyleWay

Sprint’s site is garbage right now. Wouldn’t even load in Chrome.

Worked for me in Firefox though!

  • topherct

Got one too. Thanks for the tip!

  • Rand Paul 2016

Page not found after I add it to the cart?

    • KyleWay

Try a different browser! Their site wouldn’t work for me on Chrome and I switched to Firefox and was able to place the order just fine.

      • A.J.

Yeah, but that’s funny, I tried in on IE and switched to Chrome to get it to work.

        • KyleWay

Your solution sounds VERY familiar.Every time I field a call about our website not working my first question is which browser are you using. 99 times out of 100 it’s IE.

“Friends don’t let friends use Internet Explorer”

          • A.J.

Yeah, but I have to use IE as most of our customers (retail pharmacies and hospitals) use IE so I have to make sure that our site works in IE. It would be great to not have to deal with IE, but as a Software Engineer/Web Developer, it’s unavoidable.

  • http://mamorgan1.tumblr.com/ Matt Morgan

Grabbed one…hopefully gives me an extra hour of juice

  • Andrew Baylor

wont add to cart for me

  • br_hermon

Anybody notice this “Pick Up In Store, Ship Accessories” It said this in my confirmation email and on the page during checkout but also on that page it said it would ship straight to me. I hope I didn’t chose the wrong shipping and it gets here. :/

    • Bradley Michael

      same here

      • ToddAwesome

        yes, it will be fine

    • A.J.

Yeah on the page before that it says all accessories are shipped.

      • br_hermon

        Phew, Good to know! :)

  • Alchemy08

tim-o-tato should note that this battery WILL ONLY FIT on sprint and Verizon gnex, and NOT the GSM version. Since the battery are different shapes from the cdma and gsm version

    • Liderc

Oh man, I’m so glad you said sprint AND verizon lol. I’m on Verizon, but obviously it wouldn’t have mattered anyways since it’s free.

  • Liderc

Thanks for the tip, I’m sure my battery is bound to be dying a bit – had my Galaxy Nexus since day one and since I can’t get the N5 on Verizon I’ll continue using it. It’s still working great, but we all know the battery is pretty fail.

  • Daniel Flores

    Got it!…Thanks Droid-Life

  • LANCE

GOT IT, still have 5 months on my contract, use this for travel next month

  • Rovindra Singh

Do you have to be a Sprint customer in order to get one?

    • Alchemy08

      no

      • Rovindra Singh

        Sweet, I just ordered one.

  • jwildman16

Sweet! Thanks! Can never have enough batteries for this thing. This, plus Kit Kat (thanks to baldwinguy77), will keep this beast running for just a little longer.

  • SplashMTN

Just picked one up. I’ll be selling my Gnex in a couple weeks, but it doesn’t hurt to have better battery life until then.

  • br_hermon

Missed out on the 199 G2 :( but at least I got this battery! :)

  • snagger6

Hot Damn! Thanks for the heads up.

  • btolley13
  • Walter Partlo

Just ordered a new extended battery for my baby monitor.

  • mattybeee

Got it – thanks. Now I’ll carry around three batteries to get through a day with this stupidazz Gnex on VZ.

    • Adrynalyne

According to some here, carrying around a bag of extra batteries is a fix to the Gnex battery life issue, LOL.

      • mattybeee

I was out the other night – spent some time on a train so I had a lot of onscreen time – went through two batteries in 5 hours…shameful

        • Adrynalyne

          That is pretty terrible.

        • wh1te_mag1c

I’m pretty sure my GNex would require closer to 3 batteries for so much on screen time. It’s that bad. And no, I’m not running a bunch of intense background processes.

          • http://infotainmentempire.blogspot.com Rob

Why not get one of those nice rechargeable battery packs that are portable rechargers? Instead of swapping the battery out and rebooting it. Unless you want to reboot it every time or something.

          • wh1te_mag1c

I just got one 2 days ago :). 15,000 MaH of awesomeness.

          • A.Miller

Can you recommend a “nice one”?

          • http://infotainmentempire.blogspot.com Rob

I would just go to a website like Newegg or Amazon and search for the products and go by buyer ratings/reviews. There are many out there.

        • Butters619

You’ll be happy to know (actually, maybe not) that the Nexus 5 gets less than 3 hours of on screen time.

          • http://infotainmentempire.blogspot.com Rob

            Really? Wow, that is horrible!!!

          • Butters619

Yeah. I have been averaging just under 3 and I leave my phone in airplane mode with wifi on while at my desk.

          • HarvesterX

So much for Google’s claims of Kit Kat optimizations resulting in 20% power consumption cuts..

        • Snowbo13

You all just reminded me to plug my vz gnex in while i sit here and read this. Its very shameful how much this thing is on the charger or almost dead. I have had 3 batteries. 2 are almost worthless now.

  • EC8CH

This feels like a consolation prize from the internet gods for just missing out on all the Amazon off contract price craziness that just happened.

However it probably more likely we’ll get these batteries and anyone will get those phones from Amazon… those prices were crazy. I’d be shocked if they actually ship those orders.

    • Trueblue711

Totally missed this. What was the deal?

  • Razma

ordered mine, $0.00, lol, I assume it works with the Verizon version?

    • ToddAwesome

      yes.

  • Michael Valadez

if you’re interested in it, keep trying, my friend just got the confirmation. Totally free.

  • Derek

Thanks Sprint for the free battery for my Verizon Galaxy Nexus. Just another reason for me to switch to you for the Nexus 5 next month.

    • yankeesusa

I’d try tmobile first and if it doesn’t work out then go with sprint.

  • George Fayad

In for 1. not that i really need it.

  • keithsmith22

Just ordered 3 separate ones, gotta be better than the one that I have that is near dead and since I may never get another new phone on Verizon because they basically suck.

  • McT

Got one for my VZW GNex; this + Shiny’s KitKat ROM may resurrect it as a viable fallback phone…

  • Weber

The back plate they send doesn’t fit well on the toro. Just a heads up from someone who ordered two about 6 months ago.

    • ToddAwesome

The stock plate still fits over the extended battery though, no worries for anyone that is concerned.

      • Weber

Really? I never could get it to fir over it since the back plate is slightly curved. The extended battery is bulkier (obv) than the stock battery.

        • ToddAwesome

Yep, fits fine. If I could take a picture of the back of my phone, with my phone, I would! :)

          • Weber

Kudos to you, then. I tried using my stock plate and it wouldn’t fit at all.

          • ToddAwesome

That’s odd. Maybe my GNex has just spent more time overheated than yours, making it naturally bigger. Yay GNex!

          • ReturnOfTheMack

Not sure when you bought your G-Nex but the very first ones did not have the little hump on the inside bottom of the back cover so there was a small gap between the cover and the battery. I’m just guessing that’s why because mine has the hump and the stock cover won’t fit with the extended battery.

          • ToddAwesome

I bought mine on day 1.

          • ReturnOfTheMack

Well mabye that’s why. Either way I wish I had a stock cover that worked with the extended batter because I can’t use my case otherwise.

          • ToddAwesome

Very strange, that it would be that different. Busted out the ancient web cam for this one, the only place you really notice something is off is the bottom of the camera, the cover doesn’t sit flush. I’ve had no issues with cases.

        • j

it gets stretched out. use the extended plate.

          • ToddAwesome

stretched out? the standard cover fits without an issue.

          • j

mine won’t. they arent all the same perhaps

    • Gr8Ray

Damn, that’s actually what I wanted it for. Mine has developed some sort of weird discoloration spot near the camera, almost looks like it was partially melted. Oh well.

  • Jason Kahn

    Sites down

    • DodgerDroid

It didn’t work for me either when I was using Chrome. I tried Firefox and it worked like a charm

      • EC8CH

Yep, chrome won’t load cart, but using FF my order went through $0 shipped

        • akazerotime

Make sure you don’t have pop up blocker on. I was able to order using Chrome

      • br_hermon

I had to use Chrome in Incognito mode and it worked.

  • Adam Truelove

The extended batteries do basically nothing to help with the Gnex’s battery life.

    • ToddAwesome

I can confirm this. I’ve blown through a few of these this year, they don’t add much. Oddly, these batteries die off rather quickly, my original battery still holds the charge better than the recent extended ones I’ve gotten from Sprint. Weird.

      • PuzzleShot

I just keep a spare battery in my wallet and switch out when necessary.

        • ToddAwesome

Same here (although I also keep an Anker nearby), the extended ones I’ve had just begin to plummet after a month or so of use, I can’t explain it. From 100% after a few minutes of web use I’m down to 90%, and so on.

        • Dan

?? You must have a George Costanza wallet!

          • PuzzleShot

            nah, just a mighty wallet.

that’s the name, mighty wallet. i’d post a link but i feel like that’d be borderline spam promoter.

also i keep my wallet in my front pocket. i never put anything in my back pockets. ever.

    • EvanTheGamer

They do help a little, just not what you would expect from an extended battery. Should do what it’s intended to do.

  • Boss As Hell

If you can’t get the link above to work, use this one http://www.sprint.com/freebattery. You don’t even have to enter the promo code.

  • Jim Trayer

What good are free batteries on a retired phone?

    • ToddAwesome

Go back to sleep, you’re drunk.

  • EvanTheGamer

I already own two extended batteries I bought off of Amazon for $25 each(free shipping) over a year ago. Had three, but lost one at Magic Mountain last year while climbing ladders and switching out batteries(never do this, lol). Dropped the battery and it fell down to the ground below. Had no way of retrieving it.

Don’t have much need for ‘em now since I no longer even use my beloved G-Nex since I have a GN3.

Anyways, this is a much better deal if you can score one.

  • ToddAwesome

It’s been free for a while now actually, been buying these on the reg.

  • Mike B

I cant get the cart to load

    • http://gplusid.com/shiraz Shiraz Siddiqui

dang, too slow, shopping cart won’t load for me either

      • EC8CH

        use something other than Chrome

        • Mike B

Yea got it to work on IE *shudders*

        • Nideda24

Worked for me on Chrome. Refreshed a few times and finally loaded.

        • http://gplusid.com/shiraz Shiraz Siddiqui

update, working just fine now… ordered TWO kekekeke

  • DanSan

website took a dive. i hit add to cart and the page goes to a blank page. lovely lol

    • j

Yea, I’m thinking they may have taken it down since it looks like it was intended to only be free when you actually buy the phone too from Sprint (like, at the same time)

      • DanSan

Nevermind.. i tried it with firefox instead of chrome and it went through. i didnt even need the code, it was auto discounted to free lol. So stupid u have to put in a credit card even though its free.

        • j

uhg trying IE (at work) and chrome.. no luck. just white page

        • j

worked on Chrome for android .. go figure.

      • http://www.baldypal.com/ BaldyPal

Nope, just worked for me. try again.

  • Andrew Lind

    This isn’t droid-life anymore.. its Deals-Life :D

  • breadable

    Ah Extreme Couponing Android style

  • Larry Wei

according to my experience they’re 4200 mAh short

  • Snowbo13

    link is down

    • EC8CH

      yep

    • http://www.droid-life.com/ Tim-o-tato

It’s there, it’s just that Sprint’s site is the worst ever and finding anything is ridiculous.

    • Trueblue711

I managed to get one right before they removed it. It appears to be gone again.

    • Inspector Butters

definitely cant find it. damn. just missed this, right after missing the amazon G2 sale. WEAK.

  • Godzilla

In other words the district manager was visiting the warehouse and said “what the hell is up with all these Galaxy nexus accessories? Get rid of them”

    • EC8CH

Disposal fee must be more than shipping

  • EC8CH

These work on the Verizon Model?

I know the cover doesn’t, but does the battery?

    • Ben Murphy

They should…its the same phone…just ordered one for my VZW Galaxy Nexus that I took out the drawer last week :)

    • ToddAwesome

Yes, I’ve bought a bunch of these from Sprint.

      • EC8CH

sweet, thanks… now if the cart would just load.

    • Weber

Yeah, the cover issue is kind of annoying since the snaps don’t align with the toro

    • yankeesusa

The back aligned fine with my friends verizon nexus. He actually got his battery free several months ago. This deal has been going on for a while as far as I can remember

      • ToddAwesome

        yes and yes.

  • ohNOOOOOOOO

All these deals this morning =O

  • Ben Murphy

Black Friday is starting earlier and earlier every year…
