This Evolution of the Nexus Phone GIF is Awesome

evolution of nexus phones

That is all.

Did your Nexus 5 arrive yet?

Via:  Gadget Love

  • E A butler

my white 32gb is out for delivery but my 16gb version wont ship for a while… Awesome!!! I still have my intl Note3 so all is good

  • Mvasquez

Mines at my house as I type this had to call home from work to make sure!

  • interstellarmind

Mine arrived!! Of course, leave it to Google to hardcore-troll one last time by throwing in a 125 MB update before I can get to play with my N5!!

    • Steve B

      Those jerks.

The one thing I haven’t seen mentioned by anyone is the Drive storage upgrade. Let us know if you get upgraded to 100gb free Drive storage?

    • brkshr

You still need to unlock it too.

  • Jose Daniel Zuniga

Mine had to ship on the 8th, it will arrive tomorrow

  • geedee82

I missed out the first day and didn’t get mine ordered until Friday, at that point it said “ships in 2-3 weeks” for a white 32gig. Maybe I just got lucky but when I woke up Sunday morning I had an email from google saying my order had shipped, I just checked the tracking link and it says it’s scheduled to be delivered tomorrow! Suck it verizon

  • Suralin

I feel like the OG Droid, although not having the “Nexus” label, should be included in that gif.

    • Rodeojones000

Why would someone downvote your comment? (For the record, I agree that the OG Droid should be included.)

      • Droidzilla

        My opinion on the downvote.

      • zurginator

I didn’t down vote, but I wouldn’t include it because 1) it’s not a Nexus and 2) it didn’t get its updates from Google IIRC.

If we’re going to include it, the the G1, G2, GPE S4, One, and Z ask have to be included in this as well, which is against the whole point of this image.

  • vincent scala

    wed. for me hopefully

  • marcus

the original was the best design to me… i like the scroll wheel LOL

    • zurginator

It was definitely the best looking…. Unfortunately people want smaller and smaller bezels, which leaves us easier to break fronts with no room for design.

It’s interesting watching the phone become less and less curvy as the bezels shrink though.

  • Mike Hilal

Mine is still out for delivery

  • colbyJ

    got mine 5 mins ago!

    • colbyJ

Some added info. I live in Indianapolis, IN and it was shipped from Louisville, KY.

    • Steve B

      Lucky bitc#

      • colbyJ

Thanks Steve! The “OK Google” function works really well. I’m surprised how well it works

        • Steve B

          I hate you.

          I’ll hate you less tomorrow.

I’ll stop hating you on Wednesday when I have mine.

          • colbyJ

I’m just using it over wifi at this point until next week when I make the move to T-Mobile.

By the way, I understand. We can be friends on Wednesday

          • Justin W

I know it’s not the Nexus 5, but I installed the ripped APK’s from the Nexus 5, and I love the look of it on my Note 3. Granted, I would like to have a less blown up version (everything is huge, and I now only have 4 icons per row, so the icons are massive), but I love the ease of access for Now, and the OK, Google feature is pretty useful.

          • Steve B

Yeah, I did the same on my GS3 + Paranoid. Translucent status bar + nav bar + Google Experience launcher and this is holding me over pretty well. Can’t wait to get my hands on the real thing.

        • Bigwavedave25

Agreed. Works better than expected on my GNex running Shiny-4.4

  • Alex Coldstone Simon

Should be here tomorrow. Sadly, I will have to return it because my dad doesn’t want to switch to tmo, even though I have enough SIM cards for the whle family. Looking for new, tmobile-loving, adoptive parents.

    • Andromedo

I would sell it on Craigslist before I would return it. You will probably make a few bucks profit for your trouble.

      • Alex Coldstone Simon

yeah man i actually thought about that. i posted a listing on ebay. thanks for the tip

  • Nayners

Thursday.. I need a time machine!

    • vincent scala

if i had a time machine i’d be doing a review of my Nexus 5 with my Google glass right after watching Avengers 2 on bluray lol

  • slider112

    Tomorrow.

  • Morbid138

    UPS Tracking sucks!

  • Zain Kalwani

I get it on Wednesday !

  • hgomes30

Mine will be waiting for me when I get home from work!

  • jerflash

    OUT FOR DELIVERY!!

  • Droidzilla

By the way, found a gif for the evolution of the iPhone:

    • AbbyZFresh

Hahaha. I know what you did there.

There isn’t any real evolution to begin with over the past 6 years.

      • HarvesterX

Nah, the A7 CPU sucks… SMH

        • Droidzilla

A7′s made by Samsung with tech from ARM. I would hardly call that an Apple innovation. Apple hasn’t given us anything to really look up to since the iPhone 4, and even that was essentially on par with top-tier Android devices of the day. Everything since has been lacklustre and uninspired. I always hope for big things from Apple to push the competition, but it seems the only big thing they’re interested in bringing against the competition is a patent troll lawsuit.

          • E A butler

*phone 4 started the pixel wars!!!! So I give them that.

          • Droidzilla

False. The original Motorola Droid came along with a high-res screen during the time of the iPhone 3GS.
            Droid: 480×854, 265 ppi
            iPhone 3GS: 320×480, 165 ppi

The iPhone 4 was in response to this. Even the Nexus 1 had a 480×800 resolution. The whole iPhone 4 hype about “retina” ppi was just marketing gobbledygook; they had to go with the 640×960 resolution for app scaling purposes (notice how it’s exactly double each of the 3GS numbers?).

          • E A butler

yeah, but it looked better than everything before it.

          • Droidzilla

Subjective. I disagree, but I think it was a very handsome device. The iPhone 4 was Apple’s last real competitor, in my opinion. Everything since has been decidedly uninspired.

          • E A butler

you guys are hating for no reason the iPhone 4′s screen resolution or ppi or whatever was unbeatable when it came out… it made everyone step their game up. I never owned one , actually I stopped using iPhone after the 3gs because I wanted something with a larger screen and purchased an HTC Desire HD, but wasn’t truly satisfied until android makers started to make screens with better rez or ppi or however you want to call it … but iphone 4 screen was killin fools, too bad it was soo tiny… they still are too tiny for my liking .

          • Droidzilla

The iPhone 4 had a great screen, but it was in no way a revolution. The Moto Droid had a high res IPS LCD before it. It was a simple iteration of tech. If you honestly think that the iPhone 4 revolutionised mobile screens, you bought some of the Apple press they were slinging. Calling something hype doesn’t mean it was crap; iPhone 4 had a very good screen for its day. But it was by no means revolutionary nor did it push the industry. Heck, they didn’t even make it; it was an LG screen.

          • michael arazan

I loved the screen on the D1, I used to watch shows all the time on it that I had missed on tv. Supernatural played well on it and looked great

          • TylerCameron

What are you going on about?

          • michael arazan

I’m kind of worried that this lawsuit may kill HTC for good, unless Google is going to flip the bill for its Android partners, except Samsung because they can afford it now.

    • RAZR_FANN

This is wrong. They added another row of icons! #innovation

    • Jeff

The OG Droid should be thought of as a Nexus as well. Stock ICS and it was the last time Verizon allowed out timely updates.

      • michael arazan

I remember it taking about 3 months to get froyo on the D1 after the t-mo nexus got it, but i didn’t care about updates then till I got a GNex after it and learned about android and phones to make an educated decision on what phone to upgrade to at the end of 2011

    • anehlo

      LOL!

    • zmr333

      I laughed harder than I should’ve

  • doug

Delivered!! Gotta get thru the rest of this work day though.. :(

  • Buur

Should be waiting at my door when I get home. Can’t wait!

  • Keith0606

Anyone else read the verge’s nexus 5 review… they crushed the camera in it. Though they did say that it more than likely could be software related so hopefully there is a fix. Still looking forward to getting mine in the next few days, but had high hopes for at least a “good” camera.

    • Droidzilla

I wouldn’t put too much stock in what The Verge has to say about a Nexus phone.

    • Liderc

The Verge is run by die hard Apple users, wouldn’t take everything they say at face value. Btw, I have no idea if the Nexus 5 camera sucks, it very well may be bad. But, the people in charge are rabid and I mean rabid Apple fans.

    • Steve B

Go anywhere else besides the Verge and reviews are saying the camera is great. Just a notch below the GS4 and Note 3.

      • HarvesterX

They never compare it to the G2 in all the reviews I’ve read.

        • Steve B

          So….?

          • HarvesterX

Honest question. Maybe because most are more familiar with Samsung. The G2 camera is superior to both Note 3 and GS4, it would be nice to compare also with the G2 to give more visibility to LG. Samsung isn’t the only player in town. Thst includes the N5 as well.. LG phone… If it was one review no problem but it’s always the Samsung devices and HTC One.

          • Steve B

Ah, gotcha. Wasn’t sure what you were alluding to. Honestly, I think the only thing these two phones share in terms of camera is OIS. From what I’ve ready they’re totally different sensors.

          • HarvesterX

Nexus 5 and G2? Yeah I agree. I think the sensor sizes might also be a little larger on the N5 as well, but that’s not fact.. Just what I think is fair.. :)

          • Steve B

Yeah, hopefully Kellen will do a comparison for us when they get their N5.

          • HarvesterX

He does do as unbiased of reviews as I’ve seen on sites and blogs. Sometimes he throws a little bias in, but I think we all tend to lean towards the devices of our choices a little. Plus, he’s quick to make corrections concerning content that he may have stated incorrectly. Can’t wait.

          • Steve B

Definitely. I know they’re fanboys, but in the end they give it to us straight and I appreciate that. That’s why I come to DL for all my Android news.

          • HarvesterX

Amen brotha’, we’re all fan boys to some extent or we wouldn’t be here. I just appreciate the ones who still give it to ya straight. For example I can’t stand iPhones but that A7 is a work of genius on their part.

          • interstellarmind

Yeah, I was bummed to hear they changed sensors from the G2 to the N5. I was really hoping for the same sensor.

No worries, though. From early-early reviews it seems it’s a great upgrade from the N4 and pretty decent in its own right.

      • Justin W

Agreed – wait for AnandTech’s review of it – they typically have the most in-depth and unbiased reviews I’ve seen around (not saying AP and DL have biased reviews, but AnandTech’s are so much more in-depth).

    • A.Miller

Ugh. That is so disappointing. If true, I will likely return/sell mine.

    • SplashMTN

      Video review here: http://www.theverge.com/2013/11/4/5064402/google-nexus-5-hands-on-review-video

Actually fairly balanced for a review coming from the Verge.

  • Droidzilla

    On the truck for delivery!

  • Joe Mihalich

Mine shipped Friday night with 2 day shipping. Should get here on wednesday, same day as my tmobile prepaid sim starter kit. VZ, your days are numbered.

  • Daniel Garcia

Mine is “On truck out for delivery” :)

    • Keith0606

Man I wish i was that lucky I ordered mine about 10 minutes after the announcement was made and so far nothing more than a tracking number that states ups has not received it yet.

  • Steve B

Mine shipped some time last night. Arriving on Wednesday.

Next step is to list my unlimited Verizon data contract on eBay today. Order a new SIM from whatever carrier I choose, then the old GS3 is going up on Swappa. Goodbye Verizon.

    • Droidzilla

Have you had better luck from Swappa than Craigslist? I usually go Craigslist for phone sales, but haven’t tried Swappa yet. Also, you’re on a Nexus with a prepaid plan (or at least going ETF free even if on contract). Go with whichever carrier you like, then switch it out if it doesn’t work for you. Welcome to carrier freedom!

      • Steve B

Personally never used Craigslist, way too shady for me. Swappa is the way to go. You’re protected as a buyer. Everything is through Paypal. Flat $10 listing fee, which is much better than the fees that eBay rapes you for. I’ve sold three devices through Swappa with 100% success/satisfaction. A big bonus is you can look at each particular device sale history so you know realistically what you can get for your device.

And yes, I’m really looking forward to being contract free. Really freaking sucks that Google couldn’t get Hangouts integrated with Voice. I was counting on this to avoid having to switch my numbers multiple times. Oh well, no biggie – small price to pay to break away from Verizon’s shackles. I’m leaning towards T-mobile’s $50/month plan.

        • Droidzilla

Voice will integrate with the dialer, though, so it’s worth it to get your Google Voice number as your only number, in my opinion. I’m hoping for full integration soon, just like everyone else.

          • Steve B

Yeah, but it’s not worth it to me to forego Hangouts. I’ve been waiting for all in one messaging for ages. The GV number will be on the back burner for me until they get everything sorted out.

  • http://twitter.com/geoff5093 Geoff Johnson

    So cool!

  • T S

Nexus 5 to be delivered tomorrow. . .Call of Duty Ghosts comes out tomorrow. . .Remember, remember, the 5th of November.

  • meijin3

So was the screen aspect ratio for the Nexus 4 wider than the G-Nex because it definitely looks it in the picture.

    • brkshr

      Yep

    • zurginator

The N4 is 16:10 while the Gnex and N5 are 16:9.

IMO 16:10 is better, 16:9 is just too narrow for portrait use.

      • meijin3

I prefer 16:9 because that is what most videos are shot it in. 16:10 is perfectly serviceable, though.

        • zurginator

Yeah, it’s just that I only watch video like 1% of the time I’m on my phone. I’d rather they add some extra pixels for the other 99%.

  • brkshr

I’m waiting for mine now… “Out for delivery”

    • Blue Sun

      Same! I can’t wait.

    • Daniel Garcia

Same here. One white one black. :)

    • A.Miller

      Same!

      • Preet Singh

        Just got mine!!!!!

    • Syknet_US

I’m waiting as well “out for delivery @ 6:00am.” Probably will drive home for lunch if its there :p

  • solstice1221

I got my tracking info for mine on Saturday. I’ve gone totally OCD checking the tracking every few hours.

  • Rock_Kickass

It says it shipped, will be here on Wednesday. It’ll be the second Nexus I’ve owned, except this time it’ll count. (I’m looking at you Verizon GNex)

  • EC8CH

    The Bezels…. are shrinking

  • Rock_Kickass

It shipped out, says it will be here on Wednesday. It’ll only be the second nexus I’ve owned, except this one will count…….. Verizon GNex……..

    • Rock_Kickass

Oh and just so it’s clear, I ordered this when it moved to Nov. 8 shipping, and selected basic ground shipping. Really impressed.

  • Trent Callahan

I’ve never owned a Nexus. I’m a complete LG fanboy, and I still haven’t picked one up. Maybe I’ll get lucky at Christmas. (Under 18)

  • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

I swear I’m still in Love with the Nexus One design. I never owned the phone though. Remember when all the carriers were supposed to get it? Then they started pulling out One by One…. That’s when Sprint went with the EVO….Which was groundbreaking by itself

    • JimmyHACK

Probably my favorite phone to date. Used the hell out of that trackball.

      • Trent Callahan

I remember I used to think the T-Mobile Sidekicks were the coolest things. All I wanted was that trackball lol.

        • JimmyHACK

Oh my sidekick. Now I feel young again. Thanks for that :)

      • Droid Ronin

Also loved the trackball on my G1.

  • JimmyHACK

Are there any Nexus 5 reviews out there?

    • grumpyfuzz

      the verge has one

      • JimmyHACK

        Thanks!

        • grumpyfuzz

          No problem!

      • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

And it’s Josh which is pretty much the only person over there I trust with a Nexus review since he’s owned the past couple….well and he is the boss

        • T4rd

Exactly. I’m sure David Pierce would have slammed it as he does everything else non-Apple. Josh when on record in a recent Vergecast as one of the few staff there that prefers Android over iOS. Nilay Patel was like “Whaatt?!”, lol. I like Josh a lot and not because he said that, but he seems completely un-biased in everything and he made it a point to say that in the same Vergecast because they’re much more than just a mobile tech review site and have nothing to gain from favoring anyone. I think that shows in his articles and reviews too.

        • Steve B

Except for the fact that he apparently doesn’t know how to use a camera. He bitched about the camera at length and proceeded to give it a 5. I’ve seen multiple side by side comparisons of the Nexus 5 to both the GS4 and the Note 3 and the new Nexus easily held its own. Not as good, but just a notch below. Much better than the Moto X and light years better than any previous Nexus device. The Nexus 4 got an 8 last year and it was terrible. The Verge continues to be Apple fanboys with zero credibility.

I’ll have mine on Wednesday so I’ll be able to form my own opinion, but thus far judging by early (unbiased) reviews I’m pretty excited to finally have a great camera on a Nexus phone.

    • Blue Sun

AC had some photo comparisons with the Note 3 & HTC One in various lighting environments. Excited to see Kellex’s review on the Nexus 5.

  • El_Big_CHRIS

It’s sad I’ve only owned one on VZW :/

    • JimmyHACK

I’m super excited to be switching from Verizon to Tmobile next month when contract is up for this.

    • Jaime Kerr

      “I know that feel bro”

    • Kyle Pinette

Yep, I hear you. Can’t wait to ditch them.

  • Derin Richardson

Though it made its way on G+ a little while ago, it is still an awesome .gif to behold!

Which reminds me, UPS is delivering mine today. Might just take off work early just to get it in my hands!
