Nexus 5 “Hammerhead” Android 4.4 Factory Image Now Available as Build KRT16M

nexus 5 official

The factory image and binaries for the Nexus 5 are now available as Google promised. You’ll see that the Android 4.4 build is KRT16M and the codename for the Nexus 5 is “hammerhead,” just like we told you months ago. Assuming you own a Nexus 5 (which you don’t yet), you’ll probably want to keep these files around in case you plan to tinker. A factory image can restore your device to its stock state should you run into any issues.

The binaries are available as well.

Has anybody successfully loaded the 4.4 factory image onto a Verizon GS4 yet? Please post results and feedback. Thank you!

  • I found that android 4.4 is worse than 4.1. if bought naxus 5, I will install android 4.1 or up 6.

  • One Meat Ball

Any predictions on how long before we have a Toro version of 4.4 from Cyanogenmod or some other Rom team?

    • Yaktongue

It will likely be a while (several weeks or more) before CM or AOKP come out with something, though you’ll likely see some unofficial builds before then. In terms of the near-stock ROMs (shiny, mmuzzy), I imagine you might some decently stable builds in the next few days. You’ll probably see some likely unstable alpha hacks within the next day or two, but I’d recommend waiting until a shiny or mmuzzy or PA build comes out.

  • Taso

So I can install this on my Nexus 7?? Or should I wait until it is for sure a tablet modification?

    • KG

      Do NOT do that

      • Tosser

your friends mother sucked my cock for that.

  • Grandchild David

    why Hammerhead tho?

    • brkshr

Because Google code names their stuff after fish/sharks.

      • Ben Murphy

        Then explain ‘nakasi’?

        • TheOozyMan

isnt nakasi (nexus 7) also known as Grouper

        • brkshr

          you got me there

        • staticx57

Nakasi is not the name of the device, its the name of the ROM. In the same way the galaxy nexus is named “Tuna” With the Verizon specific variant being called toro and the ROM name is mysid

          • Ben Murphy

I know this, I was just testing him.

Sea creatures have been the code names for the Nexus phones.

  • yodatom10

        • yodatom10

not gonna have the tools to do it on my chromebook gonna need someone with a windows pc to extract .img files

      • Joshua Hoffman

Just installed it on my nexus 4, it works.

Maybe that’s why my download for the GNexus factor image is going slowly.

  • Anthony Tyson

    Bring on the apks

    • mqmoon

yeah, cant wait for someone to grab and post the hangouts apk

      • yodatom10

im working on it … come on internet

        • mqmoon

you are a gentleman and a scholar.

        • ERIFNOMI

I doubt it will work. I’m going to dig around the image anyway.

          • Why wouldn’t it? Didn’t google say it would be compatible with Android 4.0+? Shouldn’t need anything new, aside from the apk

          • mqmoon

there’s a chance that the hangouts on the n5 will need kit kat, but we’ll see very soon.

          • ERIFNOMI

It does work. I just wasn’t going to get my hopes up.

  • Ben Murphy

Well, at least I’ll get to try 4.4 out on my Nexus 7 (2013)…Who uses the phone part anyway? 🙂

    • Matthew DiGiacomo

Do NOT flash this on your Nexus 7.

      • Ben Murphy

I know better than that…I’m just saying, I’ll have it in a few weeks.

        • Matthew DiGiacomo

Haha okay, you scared me for a second lol
