A new Google+ update has already begun to rollout as build, and we’re only a couple of hours removed from Google’s event. The update changes up a couple of items, most notably the photo area. That’s no surprise since today’s announcements all surrounded photo and video handling through the social network. If you want to start taking advantage of things like Auto Awesome Movie and better photo searching, feel free to sideload the update through one of the links below.

In terms of UI changes, you’ll see a new Photo menu once you tap on Photos that includes shortcuts to Auto Awesome, Albums, Videos, Photos of You, etc. You can also easily swipe between Camera and Highlights in the gallery now, and search quicker. Appears to be a solid update.

    Okay Google! BBM me: 7B725FA9

  • Kevin

i still haven’t even had my play store updated.

  • Dan

The update took away G+ Photos… I was just getting used to it. Now where do you go for your backed up photos?

    • Mobile Phones Fan

Your G+ Photos icon has been replaced with one that merely says, Photos…easy to spot, since it displays a colorful ‘pinwheel’ logo.

And with it comes a new iteration of Android’s Gallery app, as shown above. Your auto-upload pics are available under the ”’Highlights’ tab (vertical scroll).

So does sms let you text anyone who does not have hangouts? Does it work like sending a text with the messaging app.

    • Dan

Yes, that’s the point of adding SMS. Hangouts will used data and SMS will use your text messages from your carrier. One stop shopping!

      • TeeJay1100

Outstanding!! Thanks, now they just need to implement MMS. I guess we will get that once KitKat 4.4 is release/Announced.

  • Ryan de Medeiros

So this doesn’t update the hang outs app???

    • Mobile Phones Fan

Nope — that update will arrive, separately.

  • They should already have been, but if I were Facebook, I’d be VERY worried about the future.

  • JRomeo

Look like Auto Awesome Movie isn’t for everyone…from Google’s official blog post…

“All of today’s photo and video improvements will be available this week. Auto Awesome Movie works on certain devices with Android 4.3+, but all the other app features are widely supported.”

  • Dan Carter

Is it finally possible to add a photo I just took to an album? Seems like it should be but I can’t figure out how.

  • Dan Carter

Anyone else notice the awesome new share menu when you are looking at a photo?? Is this new? I hope this is what all the share menus look like in Kit Kat. Looks great!

    • John Sanatar

I noticed this too, looks great. I was thinking the same thing about Kit Kat.

  • Frawlz

Looks like a rollout… it isn’t available to me yet.

The new sharing feature is great, if a bit odd. But I can forgive that since they’ve also added a long-overdue ‘copy text’ utility. Yay. 🙂
