Thursday Poll: Do You Own an Android Tablet?

new nexus 7 wallpaper

In October of 2012, we asked our readers if they owned an Android tablet. We were sort of shocked to find that 68% of those that voted in the poll said “yes,” which was a lot higher than we had expected. But, with so many great options to choose from – such as the Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 or a Transformer variant from ASUS, it’s a good time to be an Android tablet buyer.

It has been a year, so let’s ask the same question and see if our results have changed. The new Nexus 7 has been out for a couple of months; time to see if Google has convinced you to empty your pockets on a new Android-powered slate.

Doesn’t everybody? :-) N7’13 for me and N10 for the girl, best of both worlds!

  • Damon C. Walden

Does my HP Touchpad count lol. I’d love to replace it with a Nexus 10 but I spend all my tech money on retail priced phones so Verizon can take the rest of it while I clutch to my unlimited data and rock back and forth in the corner.

  • shecalledmejay

I’m still waiting for the nexus 10

  • ObviousNinja2

Honestly, this is like asking people from chicago, if they are bulls fans..

  • bboyairwreck

    HP Touchpad! Whoop whoop!

  • muddy46

Samsung Galaxy tab 3 8.0 and Nexus 7 2013 edition…will be getting the asus nexus 10 2 if/when that ever releases.

  • Maxim∑

iPad Mini 1st gen (was once a great tablet then iOS 7 showed its crap hardware) and Nexus 7 2013 with a poetic case :)

  • d790

Yes i do…Motorola Xoom Ftw!…in my humble opinion no other 10 inch tablet has been good enough for me to make the jump. :)

    • Razball

I feel the same way lol but I got the nxus 10 just a few weeks ago and wow

  • Executor

Technically yes, since I’ve dual-booted CyanogenMod on my Touchpad ever since the very first nightly became available for it. Hell, I haven’t even tried to boot to WebOS in well over a year. I’ve lucked out, too, in that I’ve managed to keep the same continuous Android install from CM7 all the way through CM 10.2 without ever wiping data, and with no issues whatsoever.

  • Michael Gillenwalters

Yes, but it’s wicked old; Viewsonic GTablet. Hopefully I was good enough this year for Santa to bring me a Nexus 7.

  • Mike Richichi

Between work and home purchases I currently have 5 (Xoom, original Galaxy Tab, 2012 Nexus 7, Nexus 10, 2013 Nexus 7)

  • NexusPhan

Is it just me, or is it eerily quiet regarding this Google Play event. I know it’s highly unlikely we’ll see any hardware out of it, but I assumed there would be some sort of info/update about what this event was all about. Press embargo or something? Just seems off to me. Not a peep.

  • Vetal

just scored a NEW nexus 7 2013 32gb for $249 on ebay daily deals, Cant beat no tax, free shipping and $20 off

  • fritzo

i’ve always debated myself about this question. i never felt that having a nexus 7 was that much of difference maker to a phone that’s screen size was close to 5 in. just seemed unnecessary. just my opinion.

  • TatsuX2

I love Android but not a big tablet fan. Its a waste of money to me unless you are using it for business purposes or for your school books. This coming from someone who had the OG Droid, Droid 3 and now the Droid Maxx (thanks to the glitch last month)

  • Rashon Gordon

Had the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1. Upgraded to Nexus 10 and passed the Tab to the wife. Got 4 cheap Cobys

  • Defenestratus

I’ve got two. Well. I’ve got one. My wife (a diehard iPhone user) basically stole my ’12 nex7 and wont give it back. She loves it. I’ve got a nexus 10 that I got a couple weeks back on daily deals and I haven’t been happier with a technology purchase. Even my Note 3 doesn’t hold a candle to the Nexus 10 as far as experience goes.

Had the original Xoom. Used it for two years – sold it for $150. Not bad honestly.

  • mcdonsco

I own the nexus 7 2013 but it’s about to hit ebay due to the touchscreen issues. I’m truly surprised sites like droid life and engadget don’t seem to have an interest in getting to the bottom of this issue with Asus/Google as it seems to effect all N7’s.

    Oh well.

  • Brandon Kenchanh

I do not, only because the program I am in for my school requires an online bookstore that really only works on iOS or else I would definitely have an android tablet.

    • HarvesterX

The school forces iOS on you? There’s so much wrong with that.. Lol

      • Brandon Kenchanh

They do not. It’s either ios or buy a surface which I didn’t want to do. Android has the app but all reviews on it say it’s terrible. I don’t want to buy a tablet if the app doesn’t have support from its developers for Android.

  • James SMART

You should be asking who owns multiple nexus’s… Love my 7 and 10

  • Carlton Crasher

Perhaps the poll should include Yes I bought a nexus 7, but i rarely use it since it was so cheap and i often forgot i bought it!

  • JD

For those of you who have a N7 LTE and a verizon SIM, are you able to tether? If so, what version of Android are you running? Thanks

  • James Hill

    Had 3, all got broken.

  • lembowski

I’ve tried to use a few android tablets but they all left me wanting more. As phone screens have grown and I’m currently using a 5″ model I don’t think I will ever buy a tablet. My Macbook Air is portable enough to not need a tablet.

  • Dr.Acula

    Nook HD+ with CyanogenMode

    • Carlton Crasher

CyanogenMode sounds interesting…is it like a Cyanogenmod Emulator???? jk lol sorry it struck me funny!

  • brkshr

I wonder what the statistics would have been like before the original Nexus 7 was released…

  • Tehk17

I have been an Android fan since the beginning and I do not own an Android tablet (or any other tablet).

I was going to purchase the Migoal Transmaker, which would basically turn my GS4 into a Padfone (w/tablet dock and keyboad dock). That way I could get a tablet/netbook for probably half the price of a regular tablet w/keyboard dock. However, it seems Migoal is not going to release it now.

Since my S4 is still a very powerful device I think I will hold off on a tablet until the A57 gets to market. No point in buying a tablet now if my S4 has about the same specs.

  • SplashMTN

I got the Nexus 7 for Christmas last year and use it all the time. My 6 year old macbook is dying a slow death and has virtually no battery life so my Nexus 7 is my go to device for browsing/gaming.

  • http://mamorgan1.tumblr.com/ Matt Morgan

I owed a brand new Nexus 7 2013 for 3 weeks until I found it cracked right across the middle. Not sure if anyone did it or if it just happened. $230 I basically set on fire. Pretty bummed about it as it was a huge hit in my house. I just can’t justify buying another one. If I could fix it for $99 I would do it…but you can’t. It is smarter to buy a new one than try to repair from what I have read.

  • Lawrence_Hart

I got a Nexus 10 32GB for Christmas last year. I love it. I think that I’ve used my CR-48 twice since then and once was just to see if it still worked. I have only used my lap top about five times since December. The only thing that would be nice is a keyboard that worked well and was easy to connect via Bluetooth.

  • schlanz

Should have included “no, but I have an iPad”

  • http://www.skeletaldrawing.com/ Scott Hartman

I owned the first N7, then bequeathed it to a relative and got the new one last month.

  • Droid Ronin

Still rockin my 2011 Galaxy Tab 10.1 running CM 10.2.

  • GreeKNastY

nexus 10 and i love it rooted with flaming monkey

  • Tim242

I just returned my 2013 Nexus 7. It is nice, but I just have no use for a tablet.

  • Droid Ronin

Still rocking my 2011 Galaxy Tab 10.1 on JB 4.3.

  • TravisHannon

You should have had an option for Yes- But I dont use it. I have a Nexus 7 and an iPad and I can never justify picking up the Nexus 7 when my iPad is right there…..it is much better to use/experience. So my N7 just stays in my draw with a dead battery all the time. I Haven’t touched it in months…

    • http://www.deathbycone.com Jared Kotoff

      give you $50 for it

      • Carlton Crasher

no kidding i’ll give you a 100 if its the 2013 version

        • TravisHannon

          Its the original N7

      • TravisHannon

Ha, its worth more than that as a paperweight

  • droidrazredge

I got my first Nexus 7 tablet ever this year because of a Staples screw up that reduced the price of the 2013 Nexus 7 Tablet instead of older tablets. I’m glad I decided to go and purchase this tablet I couldn’t be happier. This device is truly amazing.

  • DC_Guy

I bought the 2014 Edition Note 10.1 when it launched in the US a couple of weeks ago. The display is beautiful and Samsung has released a couple “Stability Improvement” updates since I’ve had it but they aren’t there yet. It still sometimes randomly restarts and pages take a second or two to “re-draw” sometimes. A minor annoyance but still noticeable nonetheless.

  • jjl207

I had the TF300 Transformer Pad, and it was nice, but after I replaced my old laptop with an ultrabook, I used it less and less. I mean, the ultrabook gets similar battery life, but has a full keyboard and the full functionality of Windows. I am tempted, though, by the Nexus 7 or the new Nexus 10, so we’ll see.

  • David Foggia

    New nexus 7. Absolutely excellent

  • BulletTooth_Tony

My one and only… And never again.

  • NexusMan

New Nexus 7 (which replaced Original Nexus 7) and Nexus 10.

  • Reggie T

Galaxy Note 10.1 and Nexus 7. Considering selling them and getting an iPad. Considering.

  • Keith0606

Nexus 7 2013. Overall the best device android or ios I’ve used.

Also have the nexus 7 2012 which is now for my kids to use.

    • NexusMan

      Absolutely agree.

  • Claudia

Does a kindle count as an android tablet? (I hate it, I want a nexus 7)

  • Aus10

Bought a 32 GB Nexus 7 (2013) when OfficeMax had that 20% coupon back in August which surprisingly included all tablets. What would have been $270 came out to about $220. I was all smiles leaving that store.

  • http://infotainmentempire.blogspot.com Rob

I currently have a Nexus 7 (2013 wifi) and an nVidia SHIELD to go with my S3 (which I really really REALLY want to replace badly but will have to wait since I will be paying full retail…). I have owned a Xoom (LTE) and Transformer Prime. Sold the Prime and bought the SHIELD with the funds so it didn’t really cost me anything that I hadn’t already bought. :-D

  • Dan

bought the 2013 nexus 7 the day it was available.

    • AbbyZFresh

I got the very last 32GB Nexus 7 in stock at Best Buy the day it came out. Lucky me. :p

      • Carlton Crasher

i got mine from best buy and by the time i received it i could have got via amazon prime 3 days before lol

  • droidftw

I use an iPad 3 32GB as my daily driver (I run it from 100% -> 10% daily) as it is required for students to have an iPad at all time at my school. I haven’t bought an Android tablet since the Xoom.
