No, Verizon, the Galaxy Note 3 Does Not Run Stock Android.

Screen Shot 2013-10-14 at 1.06.45 PM

Maybe it’s a secret-Verizon-ready Google Play Edition? Or not. Cute Star Wars family, though.

Cheers Damian!

This screen is horribly hacked together. Not only the buttons of course but the compass is also wrong and the app title shouldn’t be there

  • Stephen Cox

    Uh, that’s not stock Android.

Stock Android has the 4G data indicator as part of the signal icon.

  • http://www.allankintz.com ack154

OK, aside from the N3 having stock or not stock, who the hell gives their like 8 year old kid a $300 smartwatch and a N3 to go along with it?

  • Chris VanAnden

Technically verizon didn’t get it wrong. It was probably the ad agency that messed this up and didn’t catch it or didn’t even know.

    • Liderc

I imagine Verizon does these inhouse for some reason. The devices are such a pivotal part of the ad I would imagine they need to be involved fairly closely.

      • Chris VanAnden

I know for a fact Verizon has agency’s of record. AKQA and ErwinPenland do quite a bit for them.

  • chris

Even money hungry, customer hating vzw dislikes touchwiz i guess.

  • droidian1441

    The failing never ends…

  • Anthony Tyson

Also funny that the Note 3 S pen looks like a lightsaber anyway

  • Liderc

This is the best neighborhood ever. A nice african american family with the best halloween costumes ever made lol.

  • Chippah

Hate to say it but im not even missing aosp one bit after
Rooting vzw Note 3 and running xposed framework..
Tw on the n3 is smokin fast. Stable as hell and boots in 32sec.

  • Simon Belmont

Hahaha. I noticed that the other night when I saw the commercial for the first time.

Kinda funny how Verizon is milking the Star Wars (DROID) brand in the commercial. Well, I guess it’s a good use of a license.

    • tomn1ce

They are using the wrong line of phones with those costumes. -_-

  • Benjamin Mackie

Im sorry, I couldnt pay attention to anything. The jabba the hut costume is the best halloween costume, ever

  • joejoe5709

Lol. Oops! I hope they pull the ad and fix it.

  • Leica Saban

Really?? That’s the best use they came up with for the $300 wrist gizmo?

    • flosserelli

I had precisely the same thought when I saw this ad on TV the other day.

  • Gr8Ray

Sure it runs stock Android. It just doesn’t come with it. ;)

    • michael arazan

Would of been hilarious to have an Unlocked and rooted Note 3 in a vzw commercial.

  • http://petervideos.com/ Peter Mansour

Most of Samsung features are useless.. Besides using 2 apps at the same time, all other features are ridiculous

    • FknTwizted

I beg to differ. S-Pen is fantastic! I cant believe nobody is advancing this on their phones or tablets. I don’t know about you but those stupid pos excuse for stylus is not getting it done. After that yeah your correct lol…. Those 2 things are really the only reason i like the Note series I would love to have a Motorola with those features with vanilla android.

  • Rob Delaney

Other than just having a big android phone, wouldn’t have a stock Note 3 kill the overall experience of the note 3. I have never been a note owner as I really dislike stylus technology so I am just wondering out of curiosity.

    • FknTwizted

stylus makes doing things easier in a lot of cases like clicking on small ass links that you would otherwise blow it up, and writing with more proficiency.. maybe its just cause I have big digits or i do a lot of credit card transactions with my phone or i write notes while I’m out…

      • http://www.gorecording.com/ Nicholassss

I have a note 2. Never use my stylus. Just a fan of the big screen.

        • flosserelli

I was the same way with my Note 2, but I am starting to use my Note 3 stylus. It’s actually useful, and doesn’t feel like a half-baked, last-minute gimmick.

          • http://www.gorecording.com/ Nicholassss

I’m grabbing one in the next week or two. I’ll give the stylus a shot.

        • rutgersjaffo

I’ve become fond of using mine to take notes fro the wife when she calls me and also to write down things we see that we’ll want later when we’re out shopping. Pretty handy.

        • SA_NYC

Same here. Think I’ve used it twice, then gave up. I actually wish Sammy would ditch the stylus and use the extra space for an even bigger battery–I was looking at it the other day and the stylus takes up a lot of room, I’d estimate the battery could be about 20% bigger if it used that space.

  • Overlysensored

Where is pensacola scott cagle, scooter, diamond jim?

  • Daniel Clifford

Would Star Wars not have gone better with the Droid brand rather than the Note?

  • fauxshizzl

When I checked my contract end date the last time and saw “month to month’ it overwhelmed with a warm feeling and excitement to leave.

    • Steve B

      Lucky bastard

    • crazed_z06

Never leaving Verizon.. Unlimited 4G > your favorite carrier

  • TheWenger

Because Verizon is so generous, they’re giving you not one, but TWO sets of navigation buttons on the same phone!

They care about their customers. This proves it.

    • Anthony Tyson

You sir are wrong…. The software home button would just be the Verizon logo

      • TheWenger

That’s generous too. What if you forget who your wireless provider is? Everyone should dance happily when they know they have Verizon, just like that blonde chick on the commercial.

        • Anthony Tyson

OMG I hate that commercial. It makes no sense as to why she should be happy because her provider has More coverage. All that matters is that she gets coverage where she lives and it’s never stated that she travels often.

          • charles rogers

Some people really are that desperate to have an excuse to win at something.

  • flybass

i feel like the multi-window is the only reason to embrace such a large phone. stock android doesn’t have it.

    • IanKellogg

I actually like most of touchwiz over stock… This is coming from gnexus with paranoid.

  • MichaelFranz

bootloader is already unlocked and a customer rom on it i see…

    IMAGINE!

  • Rob Delaney

Dad’s Jabba the Hunt costume paired with his little one is the best costume idea I have seen all year.

  • Tyler

    Verizon you’re drunk, go home.

  • Adam Truelove

    Stock Android on Verizon!??!?!?! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA

    • Open1Your1Eyes0

      But but…Verizon Galaxy Nexus. ;)

      • Adam Truelove

That was nearly 2 years ago. It no longer counts. Also, love my Verizon Gnex running Shiny ROM.

        • Steve B

Shiny was the best. I miss Mr. Baldwin.

          • Daniel Clifford

Was?? He is till around and updating.

          • Steve B

            He is, I’m not.

      • Mike Hilal

That wasnt truly stock android….it was bloated and locked out

        • Tim242

It had two Verizon apps, and an unlockable bootloader. You are incorrect.

          • Mike Hilal

Mine came with: backup assistant, my Verizon, City Id, and Slacker. That’s only 3 fewer than my galaxy note 3. Also, tether was locked out stock. Remind me how its totally unlocked and not bloated?

          • Tim242

It only came with 2 bloat apps, My Verizon and Backup Assistant. You can verify that by looking at any review. Tether is locked out of Nexus carrier devices, that should be expected. Just like on the Note 3, a simple hotspot toggle works just fine for tethering. The bootloader was unlockable by simple OEM unlock.

          • Mike Hilal

Clearly you never exchanged yours. They added the other two apps in at some point. The gsm units did not come tether blocked or with a single bloat app. You fail again. Factory unlock notwithstanding.

          • Tim242

Even if that is the case, a few extra apps mean nothing. Google has a lot of apps that I don’t care for, that they force on Nexus devices. The easy root guarantees a remedy for both, and unlockable boot loader is icing on the cake. The GSM version sold by T-Mobile had tethering blocked.

          • Liderc

My Galaxy Nexus hotspot/tether works fine for free. (not rooted)

  • geedee82

VZW, stock android, candy bars – Verizon Nexus 5 confirmed.

  • Chris

Forget that family. They hate dentists. I give out king size bars with my business card attached on Halloween. Great advertising.

    • http://www.droid-life.com Kellex B

      Heh that’s awesome.

      • Chris

This year they’ll definitely be KitKat.

    • Adrynalyne

Thats kind of like ambulance chasing lawyers, but I admire it :)

    • Mike Hilal

Great way to guarantee some business.

    • Gr8Ray

I actually have a dentist appointment on Halloween. For some reason it was their only opening.

    • David

Dude that’s actually a good idea… how well does the advertising work?

    • Liderc

Sparked a question. Does candy actually cause cavities if you brush twice a day or after eating it? i eat a lot of fruit snacks (welch’s) and never get cavities, so was just curious. I don’t floss, just brush in the morning and at night.

  • ATTACK

It’s the same screen shot that’s in the Droid Ultra video, when the guy puts the Ultra on the car dock and magically it has on screen nav bar.

  • Mexigreek

I’m ready to jump ship from Verizon because of the lack of any new Nexus or Google edition devices on their service. If they release a Developer’s edition will it run stock android or will that just leave it up the the xda or rootzwiki developers to make a custom ROM for it. I’m counting down my days till I can leave for GSM (107 days to go).

    • Adam Truelove

I am jumping ship in December. I’m done with Verizon. I’m sick of their crap. It’s Nexus for me from now on.

      • tyguy829

When you leave, make sure you pull the vz navigator apk from your current vzw phone so you can sideload it on the nexus 5! /s

  • John Clausen

Wouldn’t pretty much everybody buy one if it did? I know I would.

  • Tim Buchanan

    “secret-Verizon-ready Google Play Edition” BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

    • http://www.droid-life.com Kellex B

      Thought you’d like that. :P

      • moelsen8

better be careful, you say stuff like that around these parts and you might never hear the end of it

  • Eric

That is way too much Samsung.

  • Bigwavedave25

Someone already busted the cherry off the DE edition! ;-P

  • Dre Fay

    Great Costumes!
