Samsung Taps Lionel Messi and “Royals” to Promote Galaxy Note 3 in TV Spot

Best soccer player in the world. Check. Hottest single on the planet at the moment. Check. Using homeless children to license said hit single to promote new Kidz Bop Volume 25. Check. Soccer field in the ghetto. Check. Galaxy Note 3. Wait, what?

  • Tony G.

ronaldo is the best player in the world πŸ™‚

    • mrbc

in your opinion. Sounds like you are just a U.E.F.Adrid fanboy

  • wali bak

    so much money to waste

  • Patrick Bateman

I would love to help homeless kids too… But I bought a Note 3 and now I’m broke… Sorry kids πŸ™

  • Dean Kastelec

It’s a good ad, but like anything remotely arty, modern, or veering from the mundane, lost on american audiences.

    Visca El Barca!

  • jim

Never heard of him or the song

  • Bill Hill

    Why no Lebron?

  • Reginald Jefferson

  • I’ve actually never heard of that song….. lol

  • picaso86

Leo Messi the best player in the world! πŸ™‚ Forza Barca!!

    • Tony G.

cristiano ronaldo begs to differ πŸ™‚

      • mrbc

ronaldo begs for more than that tbh

  • Caveman

Call me American and Old! Never heard of Lionel Messi or the song, lol…..and what’s with the advertisers obsession with small boys singing to promote their phone. First LG G2 Viena boys choir now this from Samsung. Weirdos.

  • jbegs

Hottest single…the song, not Messi. Had me a little scared there, Kellen.

  • flosserelli

“…to promote new Kidz Bop Volume 25”

Now we know what Kellex really listens to πŸ˜›

  • flosserelli

    …because you can’t play football/soccer without a Note 3.

    • Rammstein

  • Just Some Guy…

Yeah I have to say that Samsung’s marketing is awful. (Granted that they don’t really need it, they will always sell a lot of phones.) I just get no desire for their products when I watch their commercials. I always feel like “What are they doing?” at the end of each one I watch.

    • michael arazan

      Loving the Moto X commercials

  • solstice1221

The Verge just posted a huge rant about this commercial because the song is about rejecting materialism, which this commercial is the antithesis of. I guess the songwriter must of thought “screw that” when she saw the huge check Samsung waved at her.

  • Kyle Miller

    This commercial made me angry!

  • turdbogls

stick to bashing apple fanboys Samsung, you were at least good at that…..that was a terrible commercial IMO.

  • ToddAwesome

  • Ben Murphy

    Let me live that fantasy

  • jim

Nothing wrong with touchwiz, you are just not used to using it

    • Adrynalyne

That sounds a lot like, “you are holding it wrong”.

At any rate, there is nothing wrong with sidewalk chalk too. It doesn’t mean I want to use it to write with.

      • JoshGroff

Only benefit of writing with chalk is clapping 2 erasers together and making a chalk cloud.

        • ToddAwesome

I preferred banging the erasers on the brick walls of the school. The teachers used to love when I’d do that.

          • Adrynalyne

Now that they are trying to arm teachers, that might get you shot these days.

          • ToddAwesome

I’d say it would be justifiable.

          • JoshGroff

      • mavericksid

I’ve to say, S4’s touchwiz camera is awesome though.

        • Adrynalyne

No doubt about it. That is one major weakness in AOSP or retail stock Android.

      • joder

        • Adrynalyne

          I will cut you.

  • Steve Ballmer

Not sure how this commercial would want to make someone buy the Note 3. Plus the song being used doesn’t go with what they’re trying to do.

    • possomcrast1

The song (which I don’t even like) is supposed to be “anti-rich”, yet they’re pairing it with a phone that they’re marketing to the business crowd with faux leather and a guy wearing a suit. It’s a real contradiction.

      • mavericksid

So much negative? Give them a break, the ad still target rich people making change.

If you want to hate something, you can come up with anything spiteful.
Haters gonna hate. I’m rich, FTW!

        • michael arazan

Rich people making a change? They are doing that every day with the middle class dwindling even smaller by the day.

          • mavericksid

If it’s targeting rich people, it’s showing rich people(messi) making a change. I hope you get it, we were discussing about the ad.

    • JBartcaps

      So negative Steve, so negative

    • romero53

what Richard implied I’m stunned that any body able to make
$5474 in a few weeks on the computer. have you seen this web site http://www.Pro67.β„‚β„΄m

      • Patrick Bateman

        go to hell

  • JΓ©rΓ΄me Besnard

I’m done with Samsung, Touchwiz, their Broadway shows and their commercials. Done!

  • JBartcaps

    That Messi smile was….messy

  • Morbid138

  • Paradisimo

    Bunch of racist poor kids!

  • Martin JoFX

Actually Messi isn’t single… just saying… Anyway, commercial for the US with a Soccer player? Impresive.

    • Single refers to the song, not his relationship status. πŸ˜›

      • Martin JoFX

Lol got it now… that ‘said’ clears that.

    • El_Big_CHRIS

Yeah. I’m surprised they didn’t use a basketball player again. Or football. I’m a soccer fan so I’m OK with this

      • epps720

I’m shocked b/c I’m sure most people in the US wouldn’t be able to pick Messi out of a lineup

        • OreoMan

      • mavericksid

Never say soccer. It’s god damn foot+ball, get it?

        • El_Big_CHRIS

Well people I general wouldn’t know the difference.

    • decidedtochangename

      Is it targeted to usa?

    • Jared Tau

“Hottest single…” is a reference to the song in the video.

  • Ron_Swanson

Is this songs 15 minutes almost up?

  • Dean

  • BPStroh

There’s some kind of joke here about him being so small and the note 3 being so big
