BlackBerry Messenger Hitting Android September 21 Through Google Play

screen-shot-2013-09-17-at-5-53-15-pm.png__620×514_

Cue the Ron Paul memes, ’cause it’s happening. BlackBerry announced BBM’s official launch onto Android and iOS for September 21. The app will be available for free through Google Play, allowing users to send secure messages to any of their fellow contacts using BBM.

App features:

BBM Chat – Enjoy real, immediate conversations with friends on Android, iPhone and BlackBerry smartphones. Not only does BBM let you know that your message has been delivered and read, it also shows you that your friend is responding to the message.

More than chat – With BBM you can share files on your phone such as photos and voice notes, all in an instant.

Your unique PIN – Every BBM user has a unique PIN that maintains your privacy, so you don’t have to give out your phone number or email address to a new or casual contact.

While it has taken quite some time to see this come to fruition, we are sort of glad it’s finally coming. Will we use? Probably not, but for anyone that does want it, we will be sure to let you know when it hits the Play store.

To all the idiots whining all over the the internet using the same cliche “This might have been a nice feature a few years ago”, don’t live in self denial and learn to accept things that are worthwhile. Or atleast try to come up with something new when desperately trying to hate something while lacking any points to defend worthless things.

    I give you this:

Nice! I’m going to jump on AOL Instant Messanger and tell all of my Yahoo contacts!

  • MUTINOUS

OK, I love AndroidCentral but they have a survey going on and WTF. Did BB pay people to say good things about BBM??????

    **********************************************
Do you intend on using BBM on Android?

    Yep. 52.71%
    Nope. 47.29%

Don’t understand why is BBM coming out now when no one really has a BB phone. I owned a BB Storm when it first came out and loved it. Till my friend showed me an android phone. I think this app is about 4yrs too late. I’ll give it a try when it comes out but don’t know if it’ll replace my stock messaging app.

    • chris420o

      this^

    • HarvesterX

We’ve been able to do this for a long time. It’s called Google Voice.

  • Radgatt

At this point, I am just wondering if there will be a Droid-Life show tonight…

I bet Bob Barker is all over
    this

  • BRNSMRF

BBM will need to have all the features Whatsapp/GroupMe/Hangouts and more

    • Mike Hilal

It has an FTP, which neither of those have. Otherwise it has all the features of hangouts. Whatsapp/groupme are garbage.

      • E A butler

WEchat is the best messenger. Superior Chinese technology for the win!!!!

  • Sean Bello

Pretty sure the main reason they pushed this out now is because they’re trying to sell by November and they’re trying to show value in the company

  • brkshr

    Go away BlackBerry, your drunk

    • Plazmic Flame

      Go home brkshr, you’re drunk…

      • brkshr

        edit: point taken tho :-)

  • Steve B

Sweet, now I can install this and chat with no one.

    • HarvesterX

      We can swap PINs ^_^

  • John Burke

I’ve already got a DashClock Extension installed & ready to start tracking BBM Notifications as soon as BBM goes live!

    • http://www.skial.com/ Tom S

Does it indicate when you have zero notifications? It might stay at that number.

      • John Burke

Yes I set it as a “Persistent” Notification so it’s always on my DashClock even when there’s (0). Same why I do with the other Extensions that way I can use the Extension to launch the App straight from DashClock.

And I have a bunch of people I plan to communicate with via BBM.

  • DJyoSNOW

And vzw is getting the bbZ30!!!!!! (Epic fail)

        dying tickles

  • BSweetness

This would have been a pretty big deal if had been released two years ago or so. Now there are too many viable cross-platform messaging apps out there (several of which have been in widespread use for quite awhile) for it to really matter all that much.

  • fartbubbler

just glad to see something that’s not iOS7 related

      I simply got paid
$6784 operating off my laptop computer this month. And if you’re thinking
that that is cool, my unmarried
friend has twin toddlers and revamped $9k her 1st month. It feels
therefore sensible creating abundant|such a lot|most} cash once others have
to be compelled to work for thus much less. this is often what I do,
