  • 800MHz processor
  • 1.9MP camera
  • 720p video playback and recording

    NEXT!

  • callumshell1

The camera makes the whole thing incredibly ugly. What was the point in including a 2MP camera?

  • Jorge

$300 for something that can only tell me the time every 25hrs or less. I’ll pass

  • Chris Brown

I couldn’t justify spending that much on a watch. Will keep rockin’ my Pebble. Also the Samsung exclusivity on connection (if that’s true, correct me if I’m wrong) would kill me since I bought a Moto X.

  • Higher_Ground

I didn’t watch the event, but tell me they were able to show more than the one screen render on all these pics.

  • http://www.ashevilletechnologyservices.com Dan Brown

Good luck wearing that camera watch into a YMCA or other workout facility that bans cameras. …so much for the health & fitness apps.

  • zurginator

This is probably the ugliest smartwatch I’ve ever seen….

…and considering what it’s competing against, that’s saying something.

  • CapnShiner

This is garbage. It looks too big to be comfortable, the strap is cheap rubber, the camera lens will probably get scratched to hell easily, and the functionality is way too limited for the price.

  • Terrance Steiner

    Meh.

  • RicoDelicioso

$299?!? Are you outta your mind?!?

    • RicoDelicioso

I say, if you buy this watch and the Note 3 together you should get a $200 price cut.

    • Chris

      I’d buy it for $50.

  • Tim

    Cost?

  • Timothy Robinson

I’ll wait for the Note Gear Watch 3.63″ with physical home button and stylus.

  • Going with the note3

Well with that price I’m out.

  • CasperTFG

Only a 1.63″ display? I’ll wait until they release the watch-blet.

  • steveindajeep

to big…in size and in price.

  • Runner2k

    No GPS!

    • hfoster52

If it’s connected to your phone why would you need one? Are you looking at it as MotoActiv or Nike alternative?

      • Runner2k

        Yeah. Sort of MotoACTV.

Google/Motorola has to release a new Smart Watch again…

  • DJyoSNOW

    No thanks I’m good

  • Ryan Laursen

    My 2¢:
    Strike one (Specs)
    Strike 2 (Ugly)
Out! (exclusive to 2 Samsung devices)

  • Eric R.

    It only works with Galaxies?

    • Franklin Ramsey

Or the New Note or new Tablet. Basically their devices that run android 4.3 it would seem.

  • rubirosa007

I am very disappointed on the poor choice of design that was put in to this device, i was really expecting something innovative (Flexible Oled scree) ;(

    • http://www.ashevilletechnologyservices.com Dan Brown

1st gen… they’ll get there. They had to get this out to beat Apple… who will in turn release a similar one soon and no one will be able to say Sammy copied.

      • Higher_Ground

I guess, but since the two aren’t cross compatible, getting out first doesn’t seem to be all that important. It’s not like iphone owners are going to go buy a Samsung phone just to have a smartwatch a few months earlier.

  • niuguy

I know that Samsung is pushing it’s own phones, but this is a complete fail. If any these are going to be successful they should pair with not just all android phones, but apple as well. At least all Android…

    • http://www.ashevilletechnologyservices.com Dan Brown

Exactly. compatibility is KEY! $300 is pretty high, and if your target market is so far only S4 users (must have galaxy device with 4.3), they must not be expecting to sell many of these.

    • tomn1ce

I was thinking the same thing, they are limiting their sales by just having the watch pair with Galaxy devices running 4.3+…Sony at least made the phone available to other Android handsets.

    • KleenDroid

I understand what you are saying, but Samsung does sell more phones than anyone else. Heck if I were them I wouldn’t want to have to deal with any potential issues with all the different makes of devices. I’m sure there will be plenty of things like this made by every manufacturer to work with their stuff.

Then it’s just a matter of what stuff you like.

  • Robert Macri

    No thank you.

  • http://www.ashevilletechnologyservices.com Dan Brown

Correction: Compatibility at launch is limited to only Galaxy devices with 4.3 or later, which excludes the Note 2. source: theverge and engadget.

That SUCKS. I’m maybe even willing to pay $300, but I’m on the Note2, not ready to dish out $600 minimum for the 3 (and I am keeping my unlimited data on vzw, thank you).

    • tomn1ce

They did mention that 4.3 is coming in Oct for the GS3, GS4 and the GN2

      • http://www.ashevilletechnologyservices.com Dan Brown

Thanks. I have heard the GS3 is expected to get 4.3 soon. The Verizon Note2 is still on 4.1… I haven’t heard any news of updates for it.

  • Dan

Can’t wait to buy this.. Haven’t been this excited for something since 4g and the thunderbolt.

  • mustbepbs

    $300?!?!

Oh my god. They can’t be serious.

    • http://www.nsa.gov/ National Security Agency

Yes, they can be serious and I’m not God…….well here anyway.

      • Nerrington141

Mr. NSA here probably loves the idea of a camera on your wrist.

        • http://www.nsa.gov/ National Security Agency

We’ve had those for years now.

        • Franklin Ramsey

He has them in the cloud. Right above your head. Look up and wave!

          • Nerrington141

But, that means I have to go outside.

          • Franklin Ramsey

It’s heat tracking/sensitive. He can still see you with you inside.

    • KleenDroid

That’s not so bad. I’ve paid over $4,000 for a watch before. Along with a bunch of over $300 watches.

I bought a really cool text capable pager watch back when pagers were all the rage.

      • Frettfreak

Yeah, but a $4000 watch is a master piece of engineering, usually automatic and made with premium materials. This is a pretty pitiful attempt at a smartwatch really.

    • http://www.vinsonimages.com yamaha83

300 is not that bad at all for a smart watch. i have paid more then that for a regular watch that just tells time…

      • Higher_Ground

yeah but how long will this thing last? A $300 watch can last a lifetime if you don’t scratch it up, this will probably be laggy and obsolete in a year or two.

      • New_Guy

Bingo. I’m already tired of the complaining. This cycle happens every time something new is announced.

“Oh my God it’s not what I predicted so it SUCKS!…well, someone on the internet used it so I guess it’s okay…a bunch of people are buying it so I want one now…”

A la Moto X, S4, Nexus 4, and I’m sure whatever comes out this year (Note 3).

    • http://LGG2Forum.com/ LGG2Forum

$300 is not a lot of money for a watch. I have an $1800 Omega on right now and this is one of their lower end models.

  • Allen Byrd

Way too expensive. I could get a Nexus 4 for that price.

    • Olay

Yup $50 cheaper for the 16gb version.

  • Tman

I can finally record that sex tape I’ve been asking my girlfriend for without her knowing!!

    • Franklin Ramsey

If you are wearing a watch during sex, you’re doing it wrong.

      • Higher_Ground

I can just imagine having to orient your arm for the video… must be some awkward love making.

      • New_Guy

…a camera on the nightstand = suspicious

        …a watch on the nightstand = none-the-wiser…

  • Murph

i was hoping for GPS and stand-alone music capabilities via bluetooth headphones or even a headphone jack….. when is Google rumored to announce their watch?

  • http://www.baldypal.com/ BaldyPal

“Galaxy Gear supports all of your favorite apps that can be found in the Samsung App Store”

owner of samsung galaxy nexus here, never seen Samsung app store. anybody with an S4 or Note 2, do you have Samsung app store on your phone out of the box?

    • Alex Griffiths

I THINK my Note 1 did. But I can’t be sure, I never opened it, and hid all the Samsung bloatware from the app drawer pretty much immediately. Just like everyone else does.

      • http://www.baldypal.com/ BaldyPal

I think Samsung is shooting themselves in the foot with this limitation.

    • http://www.ashevilletechnologyservices.com Dan Brown

You have to install the apk directly from the mobile verson of sammy’s app website, AND it doesn’t work in Chrome, must be on the default browser on a Samsung device.

      • http://www.baldypal.com/ BaldyPal

here’s hoping it comes pre installed on Galaxy Gear b/c I doubt it will have a browser.

        • http://www.ashevilletechnologyservices.com Dan Brown

My guess is you’ll browse the store and install apps from your phone directly to the device over Bluetooth or NFC.

  • Stewie

They spent all that $$$ on flexible screens, hell the render looked much better than this…. Pass, don;t even need to look at the spec’s, for what it does they don’t have to be top of the line to match your SP.

  • chris420o

maybe if samsung gave these out at a club when i was drunk i might give a hot girl my id to copy into that stupid lil thing for one like they do with lighters n such

  • S2556

    Can I root it?

    • smartguy05

I think the more important question here is, WILL IT BLEND!?

    • New_Guy

More importantly, will it pair with my device if my device is rooted…probably not.

  • EnX$$

useless garbage and its very ugly

  • blackjaguar25

“Another optional security feature lets you long-press the home key to activate a “panic” mode, using the watch’s camera to take pictures and send, along with a message, to emergency contacts.”

This scares me. What if someone gets hurt really badly and a whole bunch of really gory pictures get sent to ICE contacts? That could really scar some people.

    • Franklin Ramsey

Or what happens if you accidentally launch this?

  • Michael Hammond

Ok props to Samsung on the phones but definitely thumbs down to their watch …. I’m going Neptune …. I looked at the Neptune and was intrigued, but I wanted to see what Samsung could do …. now I know.

  • http://www.nsa.gov/ National Security Agency

Just my opinion, but this thing makes Pebble look even better.

Then again, I’m thinking about a Moto X watch with Touchless Controls.

    • zurginator

I didn’t think it was possible to make Pebble look decent….. but then again, Samsung.

  • http://www.nsa.gov/ National Security Agency

A camera in a watch? I’ve never seen anything like that before.

  • mustbepbs

    512MP of RAM

I didn’t know they had Mega Pixels of RAM. That’s innovation!

    • tomn1ce

Maybe that’s the spec of the camera….trying to pick a fight with the Lumia 1020…lmao

  • melhiore

    hehe, FAIL…

  • joejoe5709

Hmmmm… Hands on reviews for this thing will be required.

My first impressions? Could have been so much better.

    • joejoe5709

I hope no one is still expecting a Nexus watch. If Samsung couldn’t muster more than this, I doubt Google was able to do much better.

      • Ian

        dafuq did I just read?

        • New_Guy

I almost choked right there :D

      • Frettfreak

put down the crack pipe…. you have hard enough!

  • Steve Ballmer

800 MHz single core cpu? Pass. Gimme some quad core watches.

    • chris420o

its to early to be drinking….just saying

      • Runner2k

        LOL

    • tomn1ce

They are using the left over cpu’s from the Galaxy S1…They had to put it in something and try to profit out it…

      • Franklin Ramsey

        This actually wouldn’t surprise me.

  • Eric

A low profile camera on the wrist? I’m sure it will only be used responsibly.

  • Robert Macri

IMO – Active Notifications made this thing obsolete already.

    • Jordan

Unless… Active Notifications on your wrist. I’m waiting Motorola.

  • NexusPhan69

That Cyclops Alien lookin’ camera is just terrible.

  • jeff manning

“We have curved OLED technology. Let’s never use it for something useful.” – Samsung

    • http://twitter.com/geoff5093 Geoff Johnson

Good luck making the internal components flexible.

      • joseph barrientos

you dont need it to be, just the screen, the rest can be individually housed in the band itself or possibly the frame

      • Maxim∑

        done, done and done

    • tomn1ce

They are using their curved/bendable OLED technology to make the iwatch… O_O

      • Frettfreak

OMFG… that would be so funny!!! and sad at the same time!

      • Higher_Ground

LOL, wouldn’t that be something if Apple secured most of their flexible hardware to the point they didn’t have enough resources to make the Samsung watch with them.

    • New_Guy

Technically they are already using it in TV’s, but I imagine the tech would make this watch cost more like $700 at this point. Probably not a great idea until they can get the costs down.

    • RaptorOO7

They have it, but its not ready yet for prime time. These products are designed way in advance, it wasn’t designed 2 months ago. The 2.0 version will have a curved display.

  • http://randomphantasmagoria.com/ Shawn

I love the content of the note on the watch in that picture. haha

  • AllTeam

    http://www.engadget.com/2013/09/04/samsung-galaxy-gear-compatibility/

Engadget has some good information on it. Unfortunately, it will only be available for two devices at this time from what I read. It kind of sucks but hopefully it opens up. Guess I will also wait for a Nexus Watch :)

  • chris420o

this looks like every other dopey smart watch….i think the only unique ones were the pebble and that hotwatch on kickstarter(stupid name but by far the mose innovative)

  • ~dArK.AnGeL

Not even close to the rendering leaked a couple of weeks ago;.. lo
… AND… A BIG NO!… Will wait for the Nexus Watch

    • NexusPhan69

I think this looks insanely better than the ‘leaked’ (faked) render. It has a real premium look to it (if you were watching live and saw more angles and pictures)

      • chris420o

        uh….huh

        • NexusPhan69

We’ll see once Kellen gets his hands on it. Until then, I should probably not judge by Samsung’s own press shots.

      • Franklin Ramsey

I think it looks better than the leak too, but I still wouldn’t get it with those specs and only “25” hours battery life.

        • NexusPhan69

25 hours is a 100% deal breaker for me. It would quickly turn into wearing a dead smart watch all the time to not wearing it at all.

        • Frettfreak

Yeah, if they are marketing 25 hours…. what this really means is 10!

      • ~dArK.AnGeL

totally disagree;… but to each their own.
Downs; No flexible glass, short battery life & $300… come on!!

        • NexusPhan69

Oh absolutely. Price battery software all suck. But for a smart watch I think the design kicks ass (other than that camera). I’m not convinced flexible glass is ready for mass production.

  • Dan

Woman tell me I have a big wrist, so I am ready for this.

    • Guest

Too many jokes come to mind.

    • Adrynalyne

      Right or left?
I’ll get my coat and be on my way.
