Amazon Goofed, Your Chromecast Orders Haven’t Been Pushed to October

If you ordered a Chromecast through Amazon prior to August 7 and were told that you’d see your order within a couple of weeks, potentially by August 21, you are still on schedule, according to an Amazon spokesperson. Yesterday, shipment update emails were sent out to a number of our readers who had ordered Google’s HDMI dongle, claiming that their orders had been delayed until October, months later than initially expected. Amazon has now admitted that this was “an incorrect estimated order delivery” date.

Amazon is “actively fulfilling orders and all customers who placed orders prior to August 7 should receive their orders in the coming weeks,” according to this spokesperson. You should also see a new email with a correct estimated shipping date arrive in your inbox shortly.

Keep in mind that you Google Play is only showing a 2-3 week shipping estimate on the Chromecast. That’s not a terrible wait, especially with Amazon now showing a 2-3 month wait on new orders.

I ordered my first CC from amazon on the 24th of July. It was delivered 5 days later. I ordered my second CC from GP and it was delivered 8th of August. I sold that one to some lucky fellow for double what I paid. I ordered another CC on that day from Amazon. So I’m good. And for some reason, my TV works the same as the CC. I can use all the netflix and youtube apps directly in the same way to my TV without the CC being on.

  • tlspatt

BestBuy.com has the Chromecast in stock including the Netflix freebie. With expedited shipping delivery can be as soon as Monday-Tuesday.

  • Bradley Horn

Still showing “DELIVERY ESTIMATE: THURSDAY, OCTOBER 17, 2013 – WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 30, 2013 BY 8:00PM” even after an email telling me that they made a mistake and telling me that it would be by the end of Aug first of Sept.

  • sk102704

I finally gave DL a tip they could use! Sort of.
I got the email saying the October time frame was incorrect today but it still says between 10/17-10/30 when I go to my orders at Amazon.

  • AllTeam

I ordered mine on July 25 from Amazon. Last week (8/1) I ordered one from Best Buy. My Best Buy Chromecast arrived today and is already set up. My Amazon Chromecast is no where to be seen and keeps getting pushed back.

  • CaptM

I ordered mine from the GPlay store the second day after it launced, I just recieved it 2 days ago and still got the NetFlix promo, guess that depended on when the order was placed (before they officially announced that they were no longer offering it).
So far, I LOVE IT. works great from my Bionic (Yes you read that right, I still have a Bionic and it has always worked great), my Nexus 7 and my PC.
Can’t wait for them to incorporate more into this wonderful little device.

  • Kevin

bought this just because of the net price after the netflix deal, and have already enjoyed it more than i was expecting.

  • Karen

I ended up ordering a 2nd one from google when I got the Amazon email saying I’d have to wait until October. I am so not patient enough to wait that long. I guess I’m getting two now…. hopefully soon.

  • Morbid138

Amazon screwed me hard! I applied for an Amazon credit card just to get the $30 gift card credit and I used that to order a Chromecast on July 28th. My total was $8 for a Chromecast including shipping! I got that email yesterday about being delayed until October so I canceled my order and bought it from a third party for over $8! Pissed off! Just venting ha! At least I’ll have it on Monday with the 3 months of Netflix.

  • Inspector Butters

I think I found a glitch in the matrix. I ordered mine from best buy on the 1st, received it on the 5th, and I got the netflix code immediately. Happy casting everyone!

  • BigW34

I ordered mine from Amazon with a ship date of Aug. 21. I then got another email that it shipped out and I got it in the mail on July 31 and I also already got my Netflix code.

  • Nw_adventure

Anyway to use Chromecast upstream of the TV-So it broadcasts audio thru home theater speakers instead of lame tv speaker output ?

    • Steve B

      Depends on your setup.

If you have a newer receiver (i.e. with hdmi in’s and out’s), just plug the Chromecast into the hdmi on the back of the receiver.

If you have an older setup (like me) you’ll need to plug the Chromecast into the hdmi on the TV. I then have an optical cable from my tv to the receiver, and have the TV’s speakers turned off in the settings so I only get sound from my home theater speakers. It’s an old-school set up which works for now until I upgrade my home stereo (hopefully soon).

      • Nw_adventure

I was thinking something along those lines- If I plug into HDMI of the receiver taking up one of the ports, then just selecting which output to send to the tv should work thru the receiver ? Really liking this idea if I can play google music thru chromecast out to the home theater and just rocking out 🙂

        • Steve B

Yeah, that’s exactly how you do it.

  • kixofmyg0t

I really want a Chromecast but my TV is a Sony Bravia from 2007, it only has 2 HDMI inputs and both are used. One for my PS3(soon to be PS4) and the other for my PC.

    • Rbq

Only 2 HDMI ports? That’s a second world problem. Go back to the Soviet Union.

    • Smeckle

Buy an HDMI splitter. My secondary television only has 2 ports as well, and this solved my problem of splitting between a Roku, the cable box, and a blu-ray player at the time.

I got this one and it works pretty well: http://www.amazon.com/Portta-PET0301S-HDMI-Switcher-Support/dp/B00B46XUQU/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1376062761&sr=8-2&keywords=hdmi+splitter

      • sk102704

Thanks, I just ordered one. $9 with shipping. There was one for sale that had Prime but it was $14.

    • KleenDroid

Or how about unplugging your game when you want to use it?

I thought of that all by myself.

      • kixofmyg0t

My game? You mean my PS3? Yeah that’s a bit too involved. I don’t want to have to take my TV on its stand just to be able to reach the HDMI cords and switch them out everytime I want to use Chromecast.

Its not really a big deal, I want one but I don’t see myself getting one anytime within the next few months.

    • Jaxon Wright

I feel your pain, but I solved it by moving my Directv box to component.

    • sk102704

I have the same problem with my 2010 LG and my cable box and PS3. I wish they would bring the Chromecast functionality to the PS3. YouTube already works the same way. Or even better allow the PS3 (and the PS4) to also function as a Google TV box. I bet that would convince Android users on the fence over whether the get the PS4 or Xbox One to go PS4.

    • jaysenreed

Much better than Chromecast is the new Miracast TV — which doesn’t limit the content you display like Chromecast does, and a new Miracast HD Wireless adapter ($39) became available this week, which offers a lot more features and works much more like Apple’s $100+ Airplay Wireless display technology–

One of the first sources to carry this new device is TabletSprint — worth checking out for this alone… and for Android tablets, including a new series of tablets that launch next week that outprice and outperform the new Nexus… definitely worth reviewing–

  • AnotherAndroidKid

I still haven’t gotten my netflix code from amazon from my ordered evening number 1 device that i’ve had for a week already.

    • anezarati

chat or call amazon’s customer service. they will say they have to talk to their promotions team, but you will get one about a day after you contact them. i had to do that as well and it worked

      • Mr E

Good to know. I wonder if anybody has gotten their promo code w/o having to contact their customer support. I got the email from Amazon saying that I would be getting another email from them within 5 days of my ship date — which was a little over a week ago.

        • Andrew Pabon

I ordered through Amazon and it took exactly 5 BUSINESS days to get my promo code after it shipped. I didn’t have to call them or anything.

      • AnotherAndroidKid

        Thanks. I will do that.

      • El_Big_CHRIS

Question. I bought mine from googleplay when it came out. I received it in a timely manner, but the netflix code wasnt included. Any input? Thanks

        • anezarati

depends on when you ordered it. i think they stopped the deal on July 27th in the afternoon. so if you ordered after that you wont get one.

      • KleenDroid

Correct. I sent them an email the other day. They responded abot 6 hours later that I would get it within two days.

I then got the code the next morning.

    • tutaina

I contacted them the day it was delivered then I got the code 1 week after shipping

    • WR

Mine was in my spam folder… try checking that.

  • Jose C

I have received half a dozen emails from Amazon regarding this one order. Changes in dates…. revised dates… apologies for dates… not sure what dates they will ship… I may need to create a category folder in my inbox just to keep track. Hopefully the email about Netflix 3months doesn’t get changed, cancelled, revised, etc. If it wasn’t such a great product, i would have cancelled already.

  • Eric R.

I’m confused. If I order one today and I have prime when will I get it?

    • PhoenixPath

fta: Amazon now showing a 2-3 month wait on new orders.

  • Stewie

Have you guys seen what Koush has been doing with his? CM integration with any other audio/video app on the phone, check his G+ stream, the guy is outstanding!

They really need to get the SDK out, or whatever they need to allow dev’s to toss out apps for it publicly…

    • Justin W

I agree… There are so many things this could be used for besides streaming from the cloud, and I’m excited to see what these apps support. I just hope it’s not limited to Root access (I haven’t needed to root my device for a while, and would like to keep it that way).

  • LucasMonroe

I ordered one from Best Buy on the 1st and it’s already on its way. Not sure how they can get it so much quicker.

    • Rbq

For real? Sounds like that’s a better option than ordering from Amazon or Play.

      • Douglas V.

I ordered from BB on the 1st and got it and a Netflix code yesterday with Express shipping.

        • LucasMonroe

I got the Netflix code yesterday as well.

    • cns2007

Same. Ordered it from BestBuy on the 1st and got an email day before yesterday that it shipped. Should be getting it very soon.

  • Mike

I just got mine yesterday after one email stating the 21st, and then another email stating it was going to be earlier on the 8th. It worked out great since I purchased this one for travel and I am leaving on Monday for a long trip. (First one has been working great now for a couple weeks. )

  • bogy25

You are not missing much – used it once and was not impressed. My Samsung TV already has Netflix, Blockbuster, UTube and Internet already. Best used for travel.

    • niuguy

Shenanigans! I’ve already used it to stream live sports from the web to my TV. Stuff that wasn’t available on Comcast and any app.

      • maratu

This is easily going to be the best part of Chromecast.

      • Justin W

I’ve used it to stream stuff that wasn’t available on Netflix or Play TV & Movies (sadly, many CW shows aren’t available on Netflix 🙁 ).

    • Ian

Lol…”my tv already does everything the chomecast does, so I bought it and now I’m disappointed because it does nothing new.”

      • aye_winchell

hahaha, for real. I bought one and have not been disappointing at all. I have watched more netflix in the last week then the first 6 months i had netflix combined.

        cool name bro:)

        • joseph barrientos

seriously, i cant wait to watch more netlfix, it gets annoying plugging in my laptop to my tv

          • aye_winchell

dude, its great, best $35 i ever spent, i haven’t had any issue with it whatsoever, setup easy, works from multiple devices and is easy to transfer to another tv if needed. I was going to buy a new tv soon, we really wanted a smart tv to do some of this stuff, but now, whats the point, ill save a few hundred and not buy a smart tv and just pick up a couple more of these things for around the house.

      • enigmaco

You know how many times I have seen that comment “my tv does this already so I don’t like the chromecast” yet they bought it anyways smh…

        • Big_EZ

My TV does all of this as well, and I want Chromecast. I just love new tech, and this is cheap. The difference is I fully understand what I’m buying and won’t be disappointed that it’s only does what you would expect a $30 device to do.

      • bogy25

I love Droid and Google so why wouldn’t I buy it – so instead of being sarcastic tell folks like me how it can be beneficial – I do have a TV that doesn’t have Netflix and internet so we know how it will benefits that TV. What about the ones that already have the capabilities? OK, someone said you can stream sports from a laptop instead of plugging it in – cool. I am hoping more apps will adapt Chromecast and make it really different than what is already available. This is a forum… a DL forum too so where is all the good info other than saying someone is wrong because they don’t like something.

        • Jaxon Wright

    • Rbq

So want to sell it for $35 + cost of shipping?

    • Steve B

You’re an idiot. Why did you even buy this then? This device fills a need for certain people. You are not one of these people.

      • bogy25

Steve B – You are really tough calling people idiots in an online forum – I bet it would be different in person – all I am saying is I have Netfilx loaded on my TV. It does the same thing. ……And to the guy who asked why I bought in in the first place it’s because I love Google and Android so I wanted to get it and see what it can do. I am trying to find what this does that is so different from what is already out there besides the price tag.

        • blackjaguar25

But you told other people that you’ve used it and they’re not missing much. Well if they don’t have an overpriced tv that does all of that, then the Chromecast is a great option. You came off as very douchey.

        • Steve B

No offense, but if you love Google and Android so much, then you already knew what this thing could do before you bought it. If it does the same thing as your smart tv then you made a poor decision as a consumer.

To say “you’re not missing much” is a poor choice of words. I’d be willing to bet the majority of people who purchased this for the sole reason of turning their dumb tv into a smart tv. And once Google allows developers to release their apps this thing is going to blow up and make your smart tv look pretty silly.

And for the record, I would call you an idiot to your face too.

    • Richard Krajewski

Although now we are seeing apps that are expanding the universe of potential things that can be cast to your TV. For example the Chrome App MyCast that one dev is working on. I assume you didn’t just buy this for the same functionality that your TV already had, but you saw the future potential, right?

    • KleenDroid

Sell it to someone that will appreciate all that it will do very soon.

Many of us understand the potential.

Ill give you $40 if you ship it tomorrow.

I love mine and would love to get one for my son.

    • Justin W

Mine also has those features, but I have some dumb TV’s that I use regularly that I purchased this for. This device isn’t for SmartTV’s – it’s to make your dumb TV smart (rather, not so dumb).

  • Sean

great, i just called and canceled my order when i saw the new ship date. :/

    • Morbid138

How soon was your ship date? When did you place your order?

    • chuckg73

      Same here…….ughhhhhhhhhhh. F%^!

    • rslh

Yup. I cancelled my order right after I received the ‘October’ email. Ordering from GP instead.
