Rumor: Motorola Nexus Coming in Q4?

motorola batwing

“I just want a Motorola Nexus!” How often have you seen that in the comments of this site? Probably more than you can count, right? Taylor Wimberly, who was spot on with details of the Moto X months before it launched, has heard from sources that Motorola and Google will finally partner up to release one in Q4 of this year. He doesn’t have any other details other than it won’t be a Moto X turned Nexus, but could potentially be a different device altogether.

I’d attempt to speculate on what exactly we could see, but truthfully, I have no idea. Will it be better (in terms of specs) than the Moto X? Maybe it’ll be equal? It can’t go lower, can it?

I was told we could see upwards of four Nexus devices this fall (including the much anticipated watch) – maybe this Moto device is one of them. Also, don’t jump to the conclusion that LG couldn’t still be making a new Nexus. We could see two phones for all we know.

Take to the comments, please. Hypebeast.

seems time for a motorola nexus maxx

  • This one BETTER be the one. {{-_-}}

  • Uncle Paul

    Not for RON it doesn’t!

  • Xcalibur1011

Nexus phone, Xbox one, PS4, I’m going to be really broke Q4…..No Christmas presents for anyone this year.

    • Joshua Bailey

Try having a baby coming, a new house being built and a PS4 on pre-order…ihhhh. Things gonna be tight this year 🙂

  • Knlegend1

Nexus X…hopefullly with a better camera sensor.

  • David Marzluf

I have my credit card and check book ready I don’t care how much it costs.
This is my dream come true if Verizon gets it.
To all you haters out there let me just dream for a while ok

  • Sean Bello

    I wouldn’t mind having a Moto X-us

  • David Marzluf

OK droid life now I am going to be glued to this site to read every little rid bit of new on this you better be telling us everything you know. I won’t be able to sleep until it comes out

  • Wolfgang71

How’s it going to look if Motoroogle releases another phone with the same specs as the x for a cheaper price? It will inevitably have sub par specs that take advantage of the optimizations found in 4.3 or KLP. With that said, I do not doubt that it will be priced reasonably.

    • Sean Bello

if they do it 3 months after the other device came out and most people have no idea what a nexus is? I don’t suppose it’ll look like anything

  • schoat333

If the can’t sell the moto X for $299, I doubt they can make a decent Nexus for that price.

    • Joshua Bailey

Remember the Moto X is designed to make money. Google could care less if their Nexus made money…all about the ads baby.

      • ApplesNAndroids

        Couldn’t care less *** 😉

        • Joshua Bailey

          Lol. Thanks.

  • tutaina

Pay to the order of: Motorola

  • Thaddeus Brown

I for some reason doubt this is true. the rumor mill would have caught wind of it sooner.

As for if Verizon will get the Moto Nexus I have to say they will considering their working relationship with Moto.

  • Hunterh2

Nexus X. Anyone agree? And this may be the phone google would spend $500 million to market since their Nexus program hasn’t been the biggest in the market. And Nexus X sounds awesome

    • Sean Bello

      great name

    • Liderc

I like. Hopefully it’s a nicer version of the Moto X. 1080P screen, larger battery ect…

      • More internal storage, SD card port, removable battery, etc. {{-_-}}

        • aDROIDfreeworld

lol. There will never be another Nexus device to have expandable storage, removable battery, etc,. It’s just not happening!

Accept it bro, Google wants you to.

      • Steve B

It’s gotta be nicer. Taylor Wimberly said it’s not based on the Moto X so there’s hope.

  • Karl Ludwinski

I could see four devices. LG Nexus 5, Motorola Nexus 4, the watch, and the new Samsung Nexus 10 that was said to be coming soon. That would be awesome.

  • Kelly OBrien

Guess its time to jump on the moto nexus bandwagon

  • kfath1978

Its not going to be on Verizon my bags are packed anyway. Just have to play the waiting game.

  • enigmaco

I’m still recovering from the X phone, I’ll catch my breath then hypebeast like michigan thinking they are going to win a national title.

  • maxx1987

    i’d buy that. for sure.

  • NemaCystX

Given the fact that LG announced it will not be releasing a GPE of the G2, I’d say they plan to release it as a Nexus 5 as the reasoning behind that decision.

Motorola could release the best Nexus but remember how Google is keeping themselves distant to avoid OEMs from crying foul? Unless Sundar fixed that and they have a better relationship now and are working more closely

  • Non-Motorola-fan

    Noooooooooooooooooooo………… Sigh

  • XvierX

    Well, crap.

  • KenBarnum

  • David Marzluf

Please oh god please let this be true and on Verizon.
I will do anything for this and I mean anything.

    • Godzilla

Come on man. Chances of a nexus on Verizon is almost none. Are you aware of Google’s war against CDMA carriers?

      • David Marzluf

Man let me dream OK just let me dream

  • David Marzluf

Omg I am drooling over this news
I need a new phone badly I was going to get the moto x
But now I don’t know. If this is true and it comes to Verizon
It will be the best thing since the of droid and I want it I would
Even pay $800 on contract for a moto nexus

  • Where’s Bionic??

    • El_Big_CHRIS

someone said he’s under witness protection or seeking asylum

    • Godzilla

Didn’t you see his “I quit post”

      • King Lo

If you could kindly point me in the direction of said post I would be much obliged.

        • Godzilla

It was over a week ago if i remember right. I cant remember the random article he posted it on. It was non motorola related. I think it had to do with google glass.

  • GolfOx

You are killing me with trivial BS about the name ===screen size===. You need a job..

  • ROB

Ooooooo……That was close…I almost ordered a Droid Maxx….bastards making wait now!

    • Roguefort

  • John Davids

Can’t come soon enough. After playing with my friend’s Razr maxx hd, it is becoming painfully obvious just how horrible my G-Nex’s battery is 🙂

  • Roguefort

if this rumor turns out to be true, it may be a phone Verizon never gets.

    • Greyhame

Practically a given at this point.

      • Roguefort

maybe, but nothing is set in stone.

  • Brett Besa

Ahhhhh! This will be the Android phone to end all Android phones

  • Ethan Ash

All I’m saying… Nexus Maxx (in concept, not in name). Build quality like everyone loves on Moto X with true longevity and beautiful hardware (the works – NFC, IR blaster, ac wifi, excellent antennas). Instant buy.

    • Steve B

      I wish.

Moto X design. Maxx battery. LG G2 internals. X8 architecture. 5.2 inch screen, only to allow a full 5 inches of use with on-screen keys. KLP with a light UI refresh. Maybe toss some of that always listening junk into stock android. What you said: NFC, IR blaster, inductive charging, expandable storage (not happening), OTG, hdmi out.

  • ssl48

They need to have females designing smartphones because most of these phones are really ugly. Moto X interests me because of the personal design factor, but that’s it. Only the iPhones are good looking.

    • Eric

iPhones are boring now. In hardware and software. They need a new design…

  • chris125

I no longer get excited about nexus phones since I’m on Verizon. Maybe Google grew a pair and we will see another nexus on Verizon. Doubtful sadly and a shame they alienate the largest US carrier even with them being super controllive

    • Pedro

And you say Google should grow a pair…

      There are other carriers…

      • chris125

Let me know when The other carriers even come close to Verizon’s coverage and LTE then maybe I’d consider switching…

        • Pedro

Maybe if you grew a pair, you might even look on your own.
Stop waiting for others to do your bidding.

          • chris125

Actually genius I did research the other carriers. None compare to Verizon with as much as I travel. Nice try though Pedro. Maybe you should grow a pair and remove your foot from your mouth when you have no clue what people have researched/looked into..

          • Pedro

If you’ve looked, all the apologies you deserve.

  • joejoe5709

Makes sense. I figured they would. Not being based off of the Moto X opens it up for a lot of possibilities. But I’m still convinced of a Nexus5 based off the G2. I think Moto’s will be the Nexus4 successor with lower specs. There is definitely a market for this.

  • Charlie R.

It will not be on Verizon. Just accept it now.

    • Jason Parr

      Don’t be a douche!

      • Pedro

And by ‘douche’, you mean realist.

        • Charlie R.

Exactly. The next time we will ever see a Nexus on Verizon will be when VoLTE takes over.

  • A refreshed N10, a Nexus Watch (NW?), a larger phone based on the LG G2, and a smaller one from Motorola based on the Moto X body but with upgraded internals? Sounds plausible to me.

    • joejoe5709

This is exactly what I’m thinking. Not sure on the timeline but this sounds like a plausible Nexus family.

    • Hayden7200

I don’t see them upgrading the Moto X internals for a Nexus phone. The Nexus’ haven’t been about top of the line specs. Like Kellen said, it’s hard to figure out what a Moto Nexus would be, since the current X is so close to stock Android. I think a lot depends on Android 5.0.

  • RoadsterHD1

    So much pressure…..

  • EnX$$
  • RoadsterHD1

    GSM phone not VRZ

  • This is like when the moto X rumours first started.

Anyway, make mine an X10 (actually I really don’t mind dual core X8 either, as long as it has the voice chip), good camera, industrial design, and most importantly NOT A PHABLET, I REPEAT NOT A PHABLET! Hope it’s like whoever posted with the new N4 being Moto while N5 is LG.

Also, I can really see the Google Now/Siri type thing from the Moto X/new DROIDs (is this a Google or a Moto thing with the voice control actually controlling phone features like Siri instead of just search?) and Active Notification lockscreen being in 5.0, Moto X may be a testing ground and if successful, may be in AOSP?

And maybe some customisability, if possible? 🙂

  • stewie

Nexus=unlocked stock android. Since we know moto locks them down for their own property(not this vz pointing bs) then they can’t make a nexus.

    • Greyhame

Incorrect. The Moto X bootloader is only locked on Verizon and AT&T versions.

  • Gnex

QUICK! Check for FCC filings, job listings, and find Motorola employees on social networks and BOMBARD THEM WITH QUESTIONS!

  • Gregg Sarra

    It’s Nexus Hypebeast Season!!!! =D

    • joejoe5709

Yup. Time for my career to take a plunge. Hope I don’t have a performance review anytime soon.

  • I’m not due for a new phone until then anyway. I still use my original Droid, albeit as a clock.

  • Larry Bublitz

    • Larry Bublitz

(Damnit, I so didn’t mean for there to be three of those. Please downvote my n00bness.)

  • Tyler

And now my decision is even harder!

  • Trevor

I just got that tingly feeling in a weird place.

  • Tony Stark

No, I can’t take another 3 months of this!!!

  • AndrewScottRox

Sweet! I haven’t had my dreams crushed in a couple of days. I’m due.

    • El_Big_CHRIS

right? first thing to crash it: it ain’t for VZW

      • Steve B

Can’t be crushed if you knew it was never an option in the first place.

  • Philip A. Kaiser

This is the Droid we’re looking for. “Sorry, couldn’t help it.” Seems early to start Christmas rumors. Man, are we looking at the Bionic and RAZR debacle all over again. Add in the Galaxy Nexus from last time…. Holy Molly, we are doing this again. ?!?!?
