HTC One Max Pictured, Shows Off Huge 5.9″ Display With Almost No Bezel

htc one max

Over the weekend, we get our first sneak peek at the next massive Android phone that is soon to hit the market. The rumored One Max from HTC is said to go head-to-head with Samsung and their Note 3 this September. The One Max looks a bit taller than the original One, but features the same screen resolution (1080p), stretched over 5.9″ of glass.

Other than the larger display, the One Max follows the same pattern as the One Mini and keeps the overall look of the One series the same. The specs will be significantly buffed though – 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 processor, 3,300mAh battery and 1080p screen make the name superphone really stick. Sense 5 will surely be on-board with BoomSound, BlinkFeed and everything else you hate love about HTC’s Android skin.

If this phone eventually lands on Verizon, are you at all interested?

  • @theraskell

Just want a Nexus Experience HTC One device on Verizon.

  • BOB Dudek

Need a Weapon of choice.?…That’s it.

  • Trevor Clement

    Give… Now.

  • James Hill

Yes! The HTC X has arrived!

  • bigillz

    Does it have a stylus?

  • http://techonblogger.ward.pro/ Stynkfysh

This over a Note 3. If for no other reason than the home button is offset on the right. I sold my Note 2 for the simple fact that I kept hitting the darn back button when trying to hit the home button all the time – when operating with one hand, that is.

  • dsim91

I’ll be all over this if it comes to Verizon but knowing big red they will let us down

  • Justin

I’d be excited for ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING THAT HITS VERIZON WITHIN THE NEXT CENTURY.

  • Higher_Ground

Hmm it’s like a N7 mini at that size. Are we still calling them phablets?

  • Neutronxray

I will upgrade from my Galaxy Note 2

  • MichaelFranz

you know HTC twitter just took to tease which i believe is regarding this. here is my hopes and i know verizon will crush them….

Seeing as VZW slept on the HTC one and now its so late, they release either the HTC One, HTC Max, orrrrr BOTH, with the HTC Max being an exclusive to VZW for x number of months. Might have been a deal struck with HTC because of them not carrying it and they want it because the customers want it.

plus since ATT has motomaker exclusivity for now, vzw may feel having this for a few month may justify it, given VZW i known for “MAXX” type of phones

    • The Phenom

VZW only truly cares about the droid line especially with the deal they just inked would be shocked if this phone ever hits VZW.

  • dmagicp

I is a really nice looking phone. If I wasn’t going to get the note 3, I would definitely consider this.

  • rsgallo

YES! I’d be interested for this phone to hit Verizon, however, waiting on Big Red to release ANYTHING in a timely matter is like watching grass grow in the winter!

  • roberthenderson

I have a galaxy s3 that is for the most part pretty nice. I am on unlimited data and my checklist for features that would cause me to spend $700 on the a new phone are: bigger 1080 p screen, quad core processor, much improved camera with much improved low light shooting and front facing speakers (wouldn’t mind 3gb ram and a64gb). unfortunately, it looks like the note 3 is going to fail me as far as front facing speakers. That means that the HTC max could be the only thing on the horizon at Verizon to get me to spend money. I would have liked to have seen a removable battery, but I’m willing to give that up with a huge battery. The one sticking point now for the max is that I have used most of the memory on my current phone with the 32 gigabyte internal and the 64 Gigabyte card both having well under half the available memory left. This means that if the max does not have an SD card, or that it doesn’t come with a 64 gigabyte option, I will be out of luck as far as a new phone.

  • roberthenderson

let’s leave the Apple guy alone. IPhones are great bulletproof idiot proof phones that I recommend for all old people & 6 year olds and anyone without the desire or intelligence to customize.

  • http://youtu.be/GvPlAyTG4ik?hd=1 1PhoneDoesnt.com

Whats the width on that bad boy! For a large phone like that slender is in!

  • PhoenixPath

Not on Verizon, but if it hits T-mobile I’ll definitely take a look at it.

If, in 5 months, there is nothing else compelling and it seriously outperforms the One, I might jump.

  • AndrewScottRox

We’re going to need bigger pants.

    • Weber

Time to break out the JNCOs

  • j

Waiting on the Note 3 so I can upgrade from my Note 2. HTC needs to step their game up if they want to compete and I’m no Samsung fanboy, but I prefer the Note series over anything else in the market.

  • beaumac

I would like to see the comparison between HTC One Max, Galaxy Note 3 and LG G2. These are the only 2H2013 phones worth considering so far. I hope they come to Verizon soon

  • http://gplusid.com/shiraz Shiraz Siddiqui

give me a Google Play Edition, and i’ll take 2

  • http://about.me/pinter mpinter

Frankly, it’s enough to make me leave big Red when my contract expires in January!

  • Daveydog

Yah Almost no bezel if you don’t count all the black that’s not actually screen…

    • Tim242

      *high five*

    • JimmyHACK

Ya I think they forgot that black part is the Bezel

  • Tim242

Almost no bezel????? That big black border HTC puts around its displays is bezel.

    • j

Yeah that bezel is huge as hell.

  • http://thebeeobee.com/ thebeeobee

At this point google should just close-source Android and only allow it to be installed on the Moto X. These other manufacturers are making a mockery of this ecosystem.

  • RoadsterHD1

Too BIG. 5.0 inches is maxx IMHO

  • MJ04

iPhone 5S is what i am getting next

  • jeff

isn’t htc the same company that was going to put out less devices this year? yeah…

    • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

So they’ve released the HTC ONE… Andddd?….. what else?

      • Tim242

HTC One Mini, which is almost as big as the One.

        • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

That’s my point… only 2 phones of the same family in 8 months. The Max will be the 3rd for the year.

          • http://thebeeobee.com/ thebeeobee

AND the new Butterfly. Don’t be lying Pinocchio.

          • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

Butterflies haven’t been released yet and they are devices specifically for the Asian market.

          • Tim242

They promised 1for the year. They also said no Google Edition was being released. They also said no One for Verizon. They lie constantly. They said last year that the One X was their only phone. Then came the One X+, the One V, One VX, One S, and One SV. They’re on track to have just as many this year.

      • Jordan Webb

        The First.

        LOL

        • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

Think we should all try to forget that ever happened

          • JoshGroff

            I already did.

      • http://twitter.com/geoff5093 Geoff Johnson

        HTC One
        HTC One Mini
        HTC One Max

        HTC One 2
        HTC One 2 Mini
        HTC One 2 Max
        HTC One 2 Ultra Max
HTC One 2 Ultra Max Super Absorbant

Yes it’s all under the HTC One, but they are multiple phones

    • JimmyHACK

Less devices more in line with Samsung.

  • http://thebeeobee.com/ thebeeobee

Remember when HTC made a 3D phone? Yeah…give THAT company more of your money.

    • Ryan

      Oh geez you’re still around.

  • Ron_Swanson

The bezel is the same as the HTC One it looks like…..interested to see this in person. Love my HTC One, but I feel like this might a little too big…..we shall see.

    • jboogie1289

I’d love to see it too………as I walk by it to get to the GN3!!!!!

  • JonathonFlores

I’d get this phone if it weren’t for those damn buttons!!

  • trwb

    iphone-life

  • http://thebeeobee.com/ thebeeobee

Really wish they were releasing a DNA 2 style body instead of this cheap iphone ripoff look. Anyone that has used an HTC One knows how bad this material holds up over time.

    • Ryan B

The DNA2 is sexy. I wish manufactures stayed with the minimalistic look.

  • Ryan B

I couldn’t fit it in my browser, I had to scroll to see the whole thing.

    • EC8CH

      long phone is long

      • Hue

        giggity

  • DJyoSNOW

Just because of ultra pic I’ll pass. I guess I’m not willing to go out side The box and feel more mega pixels on a camera will be OK. I’m waiting for the Note 3. Just think of how many un plausible features one can have.

  • ßen Murphy

I really don’t understand what’s so appealing about the Moto X. It’s almost stock android with 2 or 3 gimmicky features with ancient specs, yet you guys are trying to sell us on this like Moto will take your first-born if you don’t. I’m just not sold. Hmmmm.

    • EC8CH

You do realize that “almost stock android” is actually a selling point round these parts?

      • ßen Murphy

I do realize that but they are screaming customization, customization. What? A colored backplate and some colored earphones?

        • EC8CH

And a white or black front bezel and colored buttons and camera trim…

Of coarse only on AT&T… lol.

          • ßen Murphy

It’s just funny how hard they are pushing it, and now he wants to harp on HTC’s android skin when a couple of months back he was singing praises.

          • EC8CH

Actually I think he’s pointing out how polarizing HTC sense is.

          • https://twitter.com/#!/fitman88 Fitman88

The texture on the back of the phone isn’t actually coarse; Kellen stated that in his review… But you already knew that, of course.

          • EC8CH

god I love a good grammar joke!

          • https://twitter.com/#!/fitman88 Fitman88

Just as much you like good grammar I presume?

        • eric stallings

I want to check out the mahogany backing!

    • kixofmyg0t

Oh I didn’t know Krait 300 cores were ancient now. Guess the Snapdragon 800 is last year tech then.

    • Dave

It’s not like any phone with decent support can’t be stock Android anyway….

    • sk3litor

I mean no disrespect to you but consumers don’t look at specs. They don’t know and don’t care. Is 1080p better than 720? Sure, to you and me. But 720 is still stunning. Just the fact that you’re on this site means you’re not someone moto is targeting. Average consumers want cool software features on a phone that looks cool and works well. Which is why iphone did so well for so long. MKBHD put it so elequently when he said geeks = specs vs price; consumers = features vs price

  • Jack3D

Wouldn’t even consider it. It’s the anti-MotoX. All OEM skin and super-spec’s.

Hate Sense, hate super tall devices (decreases pocketability)…hate HTC’s poor battery life and capacitive buttons.

    • BulletTooth_Tony

They might load this one up with an enormous 2500 mAh battery. No worries. ;-) /s

      • JoshGroff

I lost it at 2500mAh, you get an upvote. (not to mention non-removable)

  • RedXander

Would buy this in a heartbeat if it was on a 4″-5″ screen at the cost of thickness.

  • jose

If this phone comes out before the original One hits Verizon, I’m going to scream. Like a girl. Really hard.

    • PhillipCun

htc one is released on aug 15? or something….

      • jose

        Or something.

  • leenephi

*sigh* I just want anyOne on Verizon already..

    • NickA

Same here, I don’t care which “One” it is!

      • Hue

I would even take Keanu Reeves.

        • Dean

          The One

  • Daeshaun Griffiths

one hell of a brick. bigger screen than the note 2 + front facing speakers? Not my dollas

  • Warwick

    The button layout though ):

    • EC8CH

yep… never buying a phone no matter how awesome with such a stupid button layout… sorry.

  • Dee Mann

the actual screen is not the full size of the black area…so the bezels are still pretty large

  • Stephen Parker

Hmmmm 5.9″ is kinda totally huge.
I probably wouldn’t go for this one an stick with the OG HTC One, regardless of specs.
Same reason I don’t really get down on the Samsung Mega Line.

    • jose

“Hmmmm 5.9″ is kinda totally huge.”

That’s probably not what she would say.

      • Tyler Durden

Only if you got a pencil

    • Jordan Webb

Well, the Mega line is big phones for the low-end market. They don’t compete up here.

  • inchslayer

Pic taken with an iPhone LOL

    • EC8CH

      Ron took it.

      • jboogie1289

No wonder the image is so crappy!!!! I wanted to use sucks but that would be a lil harsh on the iPhail.

    • http://motorola.wow-panda.com/ Bence Borovi

I loved droid-life so much… until Ron’s Moto X post (the problem is not with the Moto X, but you all know this)… :'(

      • EC8CH

        your ridiculously thin skin?

  • ManiDePRico

Is anyone starting to wonder how exactly cases are going to work on phones with nearly bezel-less phones such as the One Max and the Moto X? You definitely have space for the case to wrap around the phone on the top bezels but what about the sides?

    • trixnkix637

bumpers? which admittedly is a poor solution.

    • ToddAwesome

There is a bezel, it’s just black.

      • ManiDePRico

I guess I’m just wondering if there enough bezel on the side for a case such as a TPU case to wrap around and hold on securely.

  • dtraini30

“If this phone eventually lands on Verizon, are you at all interested?”

At this point, I’ll take anything.

    • Eric

I would if it was 5″ instead of 5.9″

      • PhillipCun

even a 5.5″ but 5.9″ is wayyy too big.

        • Eric

5″ is the limit for me but I love the small bezel this phone has.

          • M0nk

The bezel is not that small, just an optical illusion or good design. If you see, there is a lot of black bezel surrounding the “real” screen.

          • Eric

No, I can see where the screen ends. It has less of a bezel than the one.

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jacob-Gallegos/1578850285 Jacob Gallegos

Not used to holding something big thing in your hand? Lol

      • speraider430

Agreed…at this point you might as well VoIP on a Nexus 7

        • ImmaDroid

          lol exactly

        • eric stallings

That is a stupid comparison. I have the Note 2, a 5.5 inch which in no way feels like a tablet. The 5.9inch HTC will be marginally larger and I welcome the size.

      • Rex_D

I think I will like 5.9, may keep me from that feeling that I need to carry my tablet everywhere with me in addition to my phone.

    • michael arazan

If this phone lands on Verizon…… After ATT has had exclusivity of it for 6 months frist

  • EC8CH

My next phone is going to be an iPhone, but you all should consider this.

    • Mike

      Ok, Ron

    • EvanTheGamer

I still don’t understand why he even wrote that he uses an iPhone and that his next phone will be an iPhone. He MUST have known that he would take a pretty harsh beating from the Android enthusiasts that roam the D-L halls.

Well, guess that’s just the way it is.

      • EC8CH

Let’s just make sure it’s all in good fun.

        • EvanTheGamer

          Oh course.

      • Cory_S

I have really never understood why is he affiliated with Droid-Life. it seems everything he writes is Apple apologists BS, with rarely anything good to say about Android in turn.

        • Greyhame

I was leaning that way, but was willing to listen to his opinion as an external point of view I could perhaps benefit from. The beginning of his last article definitely confused the hell out of me though. Hopefully he has a legit reason to use (be stuck with?) an iphone, otherwise… just really confusing why he’s recommending the X to others.

        • Weber

What’s so bad about an “outsider’s” POV? If you’ve ever watched the DL show, he’s had a lot of well-informed things to say about Android. He also gives good insight as a consumer that buys more into the iPhone. I don’t think they’d keep him around if he was only good for all things iPhone.

          • Cory_S

The thing is it is confusing, this is an Android blog and he is always posting up semi anti android opinions…it makes no sense. If this was Engadget, or the Verge it would be fine, but it’s not.

I rarely miss an episode of the Droid-Life show, and he has always come across as arrogant and stuck in his Apple eco-system, unwilling to give anything Android has a chance because of it.

The one where he was bad mouthing Google Play Music All Access was the best example of it. He came up with one reason after another on why he didn’t like it, which Kellen countered to show him he was wrong…in the end he simply didn’t like it because it wasn’t iTunes.

          • Weber

I guess I just like the opinion to the contrary sometimes. Helps give some perspective. While I would never go to iOS, I think tech is interesting, and it’s nice to have an opinion to the contrary sometimes.

          • Cory_S

I agree with that, and I am very open minded about it. It just doesn’t make sense to me why an Android fan blog is his means of sharing that opinion.

          • Weber

Noted. I guess the iPhone part was pretty unnecessary.

          • Ray Gray

i remember that specifically also it was like dude did you even try play music because if you did you would know everything you mentioned was already included in the app….smh somethings you just cant fake.

    • Ray Gray

If any of you guys watch the droid_life show you know that Ron is a Isheep and half the things he says doesn’t make sense and that’s why I will continue to give him Sh!t… Tim is always on his case too which is pretty funny

  • xFrozenMANGO

Jesus can they stop making it so damn tall?!
