Chromecast Now Available From Amazon for $35 With Prime Shipping (Best Buy Too)

chromecast2

Chromecast, Google’s new HDMI TV dongle, may be sold out through Google Play already, but Amazon now has it up and live for the same $35 price, plus Prime shipping. If you were in need of an incredibly affordable accessory that allows you to stream content from your phone, tablet, or computer to a TV, this is probably your best choice.

Amazon Link

Update:  If it’s sold out through Amazon (which it likely is), feel free to try Best Buy who is also offering free shipping. Some stores may have the Chromecast in stock as well. To find out, you can call your local stores and give them SKU 9071056.

Update 2:  Best Buy is showing as being sold out online. Again, check with your local stores.

Cheers Matt, Tristan, Daniel, and everyone else!

Ordered from Amazon earlier today. I just did the regular “Free Shipping” option. Sometimes I get orders earlier than projected by Amazon. We’ll see how this goes.

  • Lars Jeppesen

    I bought two :)

  • Chris VanAnden

Went to order one on Amazon…out of stock. *face palm*

  • skinja

it is not a dongle. it requires having a power supply.
google doesnt want to highlight that it has to be plugged in.

    • http://www.getintonursing.com/ Jon

No big deal. Every other box that gives you Netflix needs to be plugged in as well. Most TVs have a USB port these days. Even ones that are several years old have USB ports. This is a non issue really.

    • Steve Benson

It uses usb which you just plug into your TV. I’ve never seen a HDTV without an hdmi and usb port side by side. Not a biggie.

    • Droidzilla

If you have an HDMI 1.4 or above port (though I think that’s the highest right now), the HDMI port will power it. If you have HDMI 1.3 or lower, you need the external power (just hook in to the update port that should be on the back of your TV). Don’t blame Google; your TV has an old HDMI protocol.

  • http://infotainmentempire.blogspot.com Rob

    Out of stock

  • Bryan

Its live on Best Buy right now, with Free Shipping and the Netflix promo.
Just got mine ordered with an 8/01 delivery eta.

  • fish1552

    Sold out on Amazon too.

  • Ted Ockels

So… do you need to charge this thing via usb? How does it get power?

    • akazerotime

Step 1 plug into a open hdmi port on your TV

Step 2 plug the power adapter (MicroSD cable) into the Chromecast and the other end into the USB service port of the TV because that constantly has power

      Step 3 …

      Step 4 Enjoy

  • http://www.hammertechnologies.net/ Chase Johnson

dang it, should have waited and saved shipping and tax…..

  • saint_stephen

I was just able to order one from the Google Play Store with shipping by August 7, 2013 as of 3:18 PM Pacific time.

  • coolsilver

with prime shipping… well crap. Oh well bought one from play store.

  • rslh

It’s a bit deceiving that it’s powered by a mini usb connection. It’s not powered simply by connecting to the HDMI port. Am I wrong?

  • Spider210

Just went to my order status and now it says Delivery estimate: August 21, 2013 – August 22, 2013 wtf? it said ship by july 26th

  • Spider210

wow I ordered one just 30min ago it said 26th….now Usually ships within 3 to 4 weeks.

  • Adam

I’m thinking theoretically with VLC Remote Chrome extension, you could stream your local movies as well?

    • iamnotfan

      XDA

    • Steve Benson

      i think you’re right

      • Techie Trekker

The Chromecast is better than streaming because it actually goes out to the source URL to get the best quality video. The devices controlling it are just act as fancy remotes.

  • FelisLachesis

Aaaaaaand… it’s sold out via Amazon, too

“Usually ships in 3 to 4 weeks”

  • Dfigs23

I bought it 20 mins ago on Amazon Prime, It will be here on the 31st. I just refreshed the Amazon page and it is now a 3-4 week wait hahaha pheww i’m lucky

    • Justin W

Got mine right away when Amazon went live, getting mine on Friday! :)

  • Brendan

Can I Chromecast a SlingBox stream?

  • smardis

I waited to long…already showing 3-4 weeks for shipping

    • KleenDroid

This sort of thing usually happens so I ordered quick.

I’ve got one for sale for $50… :)

  • Kevin

well i ordered one.. if i figure in the netflix membership, i can afford to waste the $10-15 bucks if it’s not as neat as i think it might be

  • ChaseCrewDad

Amazon now saying 3 to 4 weeks to ship.

  • AnotherAndroidKid

I grabbed two. One from play store and one from amazon when it finally went up. Can’t cancel play store on so my mother and step father will get one.

  • fillyo75

Need to see reviews and how this pans out, seems cool to have, but limited use, plus I have a blue ray player that has streaming services, as well as a WD TV Live box.

  • Marco Mendoza

i bought it from google because of the 3 free months of netflix. i dont think amazon is doing that deal

    • Jaxon Wright

      they are

    • EC8CH

      yes they are…

    • Nick

      google.com/chromecast/offer

      • Marco Mendoza

nice but i already bought it from google. and google has better support for their devices than if i buy from amazon

        • Justin W

You can still contact Google about issues with the device, and I find that Amazon’s CS is pretty good.

          • Marco Mendoza

google wont help as much if you buy from amazon. i learned my lesson when i bought a nexus 7 (2012) and it was defective i had to contact asus and asus just fixed the problem. had the same problem with my nexus 4 that i bought from google, and google just ships you out a brand new one

          • Pedro4Prez

            Just stop already

        • RampageDeluxe

I’ve had the exact opposite experience. I always get good help from Amazon and a blow off from Google.

    • Steve Benson

You get the free Netflix no matter where you buy.

  • trixnkix637

I’m in no rush. I can wait for Google to send mine by Aug 7th.

    • steveliv

two weeks…i don’t think i could wait that long. amazon prime has spoiled me.

  • ORA

How many netflix codes can you use on a single account? Or do we have to create multiples to redeeem multiple codes?

    • Mr E

it sounds like only one per netflix account

    • Justin W

It’s limited to one per account, per the Google page with specifics on it.

  • Tony Byatt

Hopefully Amazon will sell the new Nexus 7s as well. I noticed they started selling the original Nexus 7 a few weeks ago…

    • Justin W

I’m guessing they will, since they are selling the Chromecast and the old Nexus 7.

Edit: After looking at the Nexus 7 listings, none of them are sold by Google, like the Chromecast is, so we may be out of luck on that front :(

      • Tony Byatt

The OG Nexus 7 is sold directly by Amazon though…

        • Justin W

          Yeah, that’s what I meant… My bad.

          • Tony Byatt

            No problem…

  • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

You’re welcome! I was THIS close to ordering from Amazon while the presser was still on…. Then herd heard Amazon… And I immediately killed the play store and starting butting mashing at Amazon. Pulled the trigger immediately. It’ll be at my house tomorrow!

  • Capt. Crunch

Haha no thanks, Google Play all the way. Mine ships by the 27th, but when you now go to the Play Store it says August 7th. Get them while Google still has Chromcast in stock!

    • Matt Alexander

Yeah, the Play store has definitely served us all well in the past as far as devices shipping at launch

  • cheezer88

IDK why, but i just ordered one of these.

    • EC8CH

      internet made you do it

      • cheezer88

hello, i have a major technology addiction

    • KleenDroid

Me too. Heck, for $35 bucks it’s worth a look see.

  • steveliv

What is awesome is that if you take in account the three month netflix subscription credit for existing users, it actually is only costing about $11.

    • emoney

well you can get a free month basically at any point with an email address so more like $20. Regardless, it’s still a great deal

      • steveliv

for existing users of netflix, the value is the full $24.

        • emoney

          good point

  • HowEasy

Any idea if this will manage to work over a Campus Network? With all the damn security it makes me wonder.
I did hear something that it can be its own hotspot as well though, not too sure at this point.

  • middlehead

No Instant Video and no UltraViolet make Homer something something

    • Superguest

      Go crazy?

      • zwieblekopf

        Don’t mind if I do!

      • middlehead

        DON’T MIND IF I DO!

    • EC8CH

maybe if we buy enough of them those services will take note and support it?

      Maybe… please…

      • davergoalie35

Well it’s already sold out in most places so I say this impulse item has hopefully done it

  • ßen Murphy

    Done!

  • Tay

Those Amazon reviews are somewhat hilarious.

  • chaoslimits

It’s a shame it’s not a WiDi device. I’d buy it if it mirrored the device. Very compelling though.

  • Jaxon Wright

I somehow got $5 off. I used prime and amazon gift balance.

    • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

Well maybe you had 5 gift balance lol. Or some kind of promo

    • skylog

my birthday is this week, and amazon (through facebook) just gave me a $5 promotional credit. it was applied immediately and required nothing to do, save using it before august 2. if you have an upcoming birthday, perhaps this was it…

      • Jaxon Wright

        nope. it’s in February

        • Justin W

It might be a credit that’s been on your account for a while. Not sure, but I think you can check with Amazon CS about it. Alternatively, thank the Amazon overlords for the $5 gift.

        • skylog

worth a shot. regardless, a “free” $5.00 not a bad thing. if only i had not waited. 3-4 weeks to deliver now, although that will not be the case. it will ship before that.

    • Justin W

I got mine for $10 off, plus I had a points balance for my CC, which I applied also. I ended up with a sub-$20 Chromecast, and I get 3 months no charge on my netflix subscription. I made money today! :)

  • cmdub

just canceled my order through google and ordered through amazon since i have prime, thankfully i was able to cancel in time

    • Scooter

      Same here.

    • Justin W

Same. Getting it Friday and no taxes :)

      • cmdub

yea the whole taxes thing was nice also. $35 even through amazon and i get it early next week or $42 through google and id get it in 2 weeks time

  • prestone1

tempting, but going to wait a couple weeks to hear some real reviews.

  • EC8CH

    We need a poll…

    I bought a chromecast
I bought more than one chromecast
I am planning on buying a chromecast
I am not interested in chromecast.

    • Capt. Crunch

      More like:
I bought Chromecast from Google Play
I bought Chromecast from Best Buy
      I bought Chromecast from Amazon
      I need $35

      • EC8CH

too bad you can’t plug a chomecast into a chromecast

        • SuperGuest

          What’s a “chomecast”? :)

          • michael arazan

Good Question, should list everything you can do with a chromecast for everyday people who are interested in this device.

        • Mr E

        “I need $35″.. I can’t stop laughing at that and I don’t know why?!?
BTW I bought Chromecast from Google Play.

      • joejoe5709

Ha. You get my upvote for the day.

      • http://motorola.wow-panda.com/ Bence Borovi

I live in Europe, I’d like to buy one. :'(
Anyone could buy and ship one to me? I’d pay all the fees (35$+shipping).

        • http://www.getintonursing.com/ Jon

keep your eye on swappa.com in the coming days. I’m sure you can buy one there where folks are willing to ship overseas.

        • Droidzilla

Freight forwarder. There are tons of them in Miami.

      • Mike Smith

        More like:
        – I am willing to knock over a liquor store for $35
        – I am willing to mug a pregnant woman for $35
        – I am willing to steal $35 from my girlfriend’s purse
        – I don’t have a girlfriend so I will have to steal $35 from my mother’s purse
        – I am afraid my mother will beat me up if I try to steal from her, so I will donate blood and semen (not mixed together) for $35

  • SDotNYC

Ordered at about 5pm today and its estimated for a Monday July 29th arrival using prime. GP estimated Aug 7th delivery fyi

    • Taylor Abrahamson

      GGRRR!!!

was that a good GRR or a bad GRR?

  • jimmyf101

Amazon= NO 3 free months of Netflix?

    Play=3 free months of Netflix?

    • Molly Housel

Everyone gets Netflix, code arrives when it ships

      • David Chau

you smell like beef and cheese

        • Molly Housel

          nice hair, troll

    • Ray

You do get the 3 free months with Amazon also.

      • duke69111

Where did you see this at? Just Curious.

        • Ray

Amazon had the information inside a box under the price. I guess when it sold out they removed it.

    • John

both give you 3 months of netflix free

  • j__h

Do you still get Netflix 3 months free for existing users?

Edit: According to the Amazon page you do, and I have bought one.

  • steveliv

I cancelled my order at google and purchased at Amazon. I’ll get it Friday as opposed to whenever google got around to shipping theirs. I ordered one for my parents who have a nexus 7, but their delivery is guaranteed for Monday.

    • jnt

Everything I’m seeing on Amazon says it wont’ ship for a few more weeks…

      • steveliv

I ordered almost immediately after the page went live.

        • http://www.getintonursing.com/ Jon

Oh hell. Mine says it won’t ship till August. (Amazon)

        • sc0rch3d

Ordered from play and got tracking number this morning.

          • steveliv

I ordered from Play, then cancelled from play, and still got a tracking number. They are using UPS Innovations, which means they hand it off to the USPS when it gets to your town. It always adds a day or two to delivery.

      • Mike

I just got a text from Amazon that my package with Google Chromcast HDMI Stream has shipped and I should see delivery by 8pm tomorrow. I ordered it yesterday. Why pay Google Play shipping cost when Amazon Prime ships it 2 day for FREE!

        • jnt

I’m about to hit up Best Buy locally as they have them in stock. Already canceled the Google Play order!

  • M

Will it also come with 3 months of free Netflix through Amazon?

    • r.™

      yup

    • M

      Nevermind

  • r.™

Ordered… in process of selling my discontinued logitech revue

    • TMKvamme

I will be impressed if you can sell it.
I have one and haven’t bothered selling it because I figure it will be more hassle than it is worth.

    • decidedtochangename

Google TV b is getting the cast features. However I don’t the Revue will be on the update list

  • Taylor Abrahamson

NNNOOOOO!!!!! GGRRRR!!! I would order it from google.. and not get to use my Prime account! If the Prime orders arrive before google, I’m going to be mad!

    • dragonthc

amazon says mine will be delivered on July 30th.
My google order says it will ship by August 7th.

      • Jon Markman

Same here. Google’s retail acumen is clearly behind Amazon’s; free shipping, no tax, and at least a week quicker on the delivery. No brainer.

        • John

you got no tax? i paid about $3 of tax

          • Jon Markman

I live in DC, where apparently Amazon still doesn’t have to collect sales tax.

        • EC8CH

Google does lots of things well, but they are no where near as good of a retailer as Amazon.

      • thebigmann

Since I have Prime, mine is set to arrive on July 26. Luckily I cancelled my Google Play order in time to go the Amazon route!

      • Taylor Abrahamson

shooooot. I might as well just grab another one from amazon!

my google order says it will ship by the 2nd

      • Taylor Abrahamson

        Sold out :( :(

    • JimmyHACK

My 2 ordered on prime already shipped and both 3.99 one day. So will have tomorrow :) This is why I waited the second Google said Amazon.

  • KleenDroid

    Amazing

  • EC8CH

Roku Streaming Stick vs Chomecast….. decisions decisions.

    • DancherBoi

$100 vs $35…no brainer. BTW, Amazon has for free super saver shipping, so no prime membership necessary.

      • EC8CH

Yeah I just went ahead and bought the chromecast. I hope that more content providers support it because currently the Roku has far more content. But for $35…. what the hell.

    • Chris B

…how can you compare between the two…? Example, PLEX app; how would you stream (dlna) media to your TV w/ ChromeCast…?

      • EC8CH

Mainly my comparison would be to get streaming video services onto a TV. The major ones being Amazon, Netflix, Vudu, Google Play, Youtube, and also Google music as well.

Each offers native support for some but not others. Since the chromecast costs less than half… I figured I try it out and hope for future support from the other content providers.

        • Chris B

Gotcha. I watched the announcement and couldn’t help but WISH this was a mirroring tool…that way, takes the weight off the devs.

I just want to ‘beam’ my plex info to ChromeCast. Fingers crossed for the Plex devs I suppose.

      • decidedtochangename

Since it mirrors chrome browser tabs you could play Plex in your browser and accomplish the same thing until the app supports it.
