Wednesday Poll: What is Your Current Phone?

phones smartphones

The last time that we asked the Droid Life community about their current phone, the Galaxy Nexus was still dominating, followed closely by the Galaxy S3. But since that poll ran back in August of last year, we’ve seen the Galaxy Note 2 surface, along with the RAZR HD, Nexus 4, DROID DNA, Nexus 4, HTC One, and of course, the Galaxy S4. Since we are now in late May of 2013, it’s time to ask again, “Which phone do you currently own?”

As in previous polls, we can’t list every single phone on the market, so we picked the top dogs and also some from the past that many of you still seem to be suffering with. For those with a Samsung phone like the GS4 or Note 2, be sure to mention your specific carrier model in the comments. When voting “Other,” be sure to tell us which phone it is that you have. So, tell us, which phone is your current phone?

Currently using an Optimus G but my Nexus 4 will arrive tomorrow :)

Ditched the Nexus and went back to the Bionic after the JB update. So much nicer / smoother…

  • StormyDzines

    Droid RAZR HD on Verizon

  • ddevito

GNex running MMuzzyROM – fast, smooth, no issues.

You’re either NEXUS or against us

    • http://twitter.com/jdrch jdrch

That’s pretty witty, who disliked this?

  • Artune

I already knew the popular pick was going to be the GNEX from verizon. I bought mine day one (dec 15th?) so all of us will be able to move on August 15th or stay a bit longer depending on if we get to keep our unlimited plan.

  • joshery420

    Galaxy Nexus, Verizon Wireless

  • Alan Burnstine

Although I just upgraded to the DNA, I am surprised that the rezound is not on the list. Very capable device and the best screen on Verizon before the DNA.

  • MKader17

Still rocking the Galaxy Nexus even though it fell off my bike at the bottom of a hill today when I was going 25+ mph. No issue with the screen just some road rash around the edges. Didn’t even have a case on!

  • Rodeojones000

Using a VZW Galaxy Nexus and I’m still 100% happy with it. The USB port recently went bad, but I’ve got an external charger and 2 spare batteries, so I’m fine with it. Seeing as I’ll be paying full price for my next phone to keep my unlimited data, no phone that’s been released since this has been worth the money. With all the developer support it still receives, the lack of a physical home button, and a screen size that isn’t obscenely large, it’s still the perfect phone for me.

  • yummy

    Still tapping the galnex door.

  • Tim242

White Verizon S4! Bought with installment plan to keep unlimited. Sold my Note 2 today.

    • dean2359

How exactly does the installment plan work? Did you have to start a new line ? Verizon told me I couldn’t use that plan for my upgrade because it has to be over $399

      • Tim242

The installment plan is for full retail. The S4 is $650 plus tax retail. You pay the first month, which is $56, plus the $55 taxes up front.

        • FknTwizted

BLAHH!! cant be hit with the sales tax here!! Montana FTW!

        • dean2359

That much I get but is that a new line or were you allowed to use an upgrade

          • Tim242

If you opt for full retail, that is no contract and does not use your upgrade

          • dean2359

Thank you and last question, can you use your existing number or do they give you a new one

          • Tim242

No new line, no new number. You just put your SIM in it and you are good to go.

          • dean2359

            Great. Thanks for the info

    • T4rd

Nice, I’m considering doing the same; selling my Note 2 for the S4. How much did you get for you Note 2 and where did you sell it? I’m thinking about putting it on Swappa and getting a used S4 from there too (when they become available, I’m sure some people will be flipping their upgrades as usual).

      • Tim242

It’s going for $248 on Gazelle. I sold it for $275 on craigslist though.

        • T4rd

Wow, that’s it?! It’s going for a minimum of $400 on Swappa and my forum. You must have just wanted a quick sale. I would never use a service like Gazelle, you can get much more on a private sale.

          • Tim242

Yeah, I didn’t feel like messing around too much with it. I didn’t need the money that bad haha

  • Jonathan Stevens

Still rocking my OG HTC Incredible after over two and a half years.
I haven’t switched phones because Verizon doesn’t have anything I want to switch to, and my family is debating whether or not to switch to T-Mobile.

  • Guest

You’re gonna list the Thunderbolt and iPhone but not the Bionic. Yeah… I’m used to this by now lol

  • Kizaru Hiruko

Daily driver: Galaxy S4 on Verizon.
Weekend tinkerer: Droid DNA running Sense 5.
Work phone: Lumia 920 on AT&T.
Nail in the phone: Droid Charge.

  • artsr2002

Sprint S3 on a Verizon MVNO called Page Plus Cellular. $30/month.

  • Ayush

Finally, I am on a Droid 4 after rocking my OG Droid for the past year. Loaded CyanogenMod as soon as I got it and I am loving it.

  • Chris Hendley

Finally I am part of the 1 percenter!!!

    • FknTwizted

lol, don’t know how many people will get that reference.

  • Festus440

HTC One on Sprint. Just moved all five of my lines to Sprint from Verizon. Other phones are 2 Galaxy S3’s and an LG Optimus g. (and one dumb phone :-)

  • https://www.facebook.com/aaron.williams.125 Champion1229

Unfortunately most users are stuck with a 2 year contract and even though we all wish we could have the S4, HTC One or N4, the majority of us will just have to suffice with “outdated” devices but it is kinda nice to know that there are still a lot of people who still have “older” hardware.

  • Jroc869, Nexus-Life

Amazing that samsung has the top 4 spots.

  • Justin Barrett

Love that the majority are rocking a phone over a year old. Still holding strong.

  • icedrop

Smoked so many Gnex’s they cut-off my insurance and now I’m back rocking the OG Droid Incredible. Screen is horrible, speed is horrible, and pretty much everything else sucks but it destroys my Gnex in the actually cell service dept, and is so small it never breaks, obviously why I still have it.

    • Jonathan Stevens

Woo, there’s someone else here still using the OG Incredible! If I didn’t have my Nexus 7, I’d probably go crazy.

  • 00034555

    LG Motion 4G from MetroPCS

  • umataro42

Galaxy Nexus, and I have 3 main reasons, most to do with my carrier.

    1) I’m on Verizon and this is the only Nexus they have.
    2) I have unlimited data and don’t want to change my contract or pay for an unsubsidized phone that I can still only use on Verizon anyway
    3) I’ve learned the Nexus 4 only has 16GB Max and doesn’t support OTG (seriously?!) so even if it had been available, I don’t think I would have upgraded from the GNex.

  • http://twitter.com/uscarlos USCarlos

How is Thunderbolt on the list but not the EVO 4G LTE???

  • Dave

So Sammy is taking names and leaving others in the dust as far as this site goes also.

  • paul_cus

Panasonic ELUGA. I’m getting the Sony Xperia ZL in June.

  • Chris Stuart

Well, Samsung wins with 64% of all respondents… And this being an android site I imagine we would be the most likely group of people to own non-samsung phones. Imagine what the general populace is like. Sucks to be a non-samsung android maker.

    PS. I have a GS3

  • Charge Sucks

    Droid Charge. Hating life.

    • kderentz

We should buy this guy a phone …. this is worst then the Thunderbolt … trust me as I have had one.

      • Franklin Ramsey

I had a Charge and I still would if I didn’t grab a Gnex off ebay for 87 bucks about a year ago.

        • Jimneezy

          87 bucks?!?! Nice!

    • Kizaru Hiruko

Sorry, buddy. I felt your pain. Want $20?

    • Philip A. Kaiser

Get insurance. Break charge, pay $100, get a new (not refurbished ) rezound, keep unlimited data, and be happy. Worked for the my wife.

    • FknTwizted

only real issue i had with that phone was the on board memory… other then that i liked the look and the feel as well as that screen… not so much of the cartoonish touchwiz.

    • Daniel Hogan

I’ll sell you a Gnex for not too much money…screen’s got a tiny crack on the bottom left corner but otherwise no issues.

    • cheezeboy

another charge owner here! 30 days left of the too long 2 year contract.

  • Ruben Ali Fuenmayor

I had the Galaxy Nexus since its release but that Xperia Z is too good to let by.

  • F22

GNex on Verizon. Battery life is terrible, but other than that, it still works very well.

Hoping Moto comes out with a decent Verizon phone — prefer the Motorola radios, plus the build quality. When we go camping, the only carrier we could possibly get a signal with, is Big Red, so though I don’t like their phone selection, I definitely won’t be leaving them. A great phone with no signal is worthless.

    • Philip A. Kaiser

Funny thing. Have a GNex and have been around the world and back when it comes to roms and kernels. Extended battery as well and life still sucked. Bought a new standard battery and life was good again. Turns out my original battery and extended battery were killed through all my experimentation. Using a new standard battery with AOKP and their lean Kernel, 10hrs of decent use will still leave me with some juice. Little pondered thought, some of the older batteirs including the extended ones don’t last.

      • ckeegan

I tried everything to get decent battery life out of my GNex, but gave up and got the s4. Off the charger for 10 hours 13 minutes so far today. 2 hours 41 minutes of screen time, 1 hour 6 minutes of talk time. 41% left.

    • Weber

      http://shop.sprint.com/mysprint/shop/accessory/ao_details.jsp?accSKU=64800058

2100 mAh extended battery (NFC) for free. You just pay S&H ($6.50). Add to cart to see the price. Battery door fits my VZW GNex. I bought two for $13 straight.

  • edward

my gnex for a couple of more years probably…it does everything i need for it do..for now. the end of unlimited data on contract pretty much killed my plans on ever upgrading and buying any phone full retail is not going to happen anytime soon-

    • umataro42

Same. And if you’re on Verizon, buying unsubsidized probably isn’t worth it since you can still only use it on Verizon.

    • Kizaru Hiruko

Have you considered using the Device Installment Plan? I know you’ll still be paying the subsidy on your GNex, but it does help when you want a new phone but are unwilling to give up unlimited.

    • http://www.ashevilletechnologyservices.com Dan Brown

Also, swappa.com is a great resource… how I got rid of my gnex —> Note2 for less than full retail. Best move for me, I wish I had done it earlier. The battery life and non-lag was worth every penny.

    • Dominick_7

If the installment plan is out of the question, where you pay it off each month, if you have an extra line with an upgrade on it with a non smartphone/you don’t care about losing unlimited on it you could upgrade using that line then switch it/active it on your line that has unlimited. Or you could just use the upgrade tool on your own line within My Verizon and not lose your unlimited data. You just can’t have a rep upgrade you or you’ll lose unlimited.

  • bimmerfreak0

    Droid X on 4.0.4

    • Trevor

Wow, you must be a patient human being.

  • jpfrasier

still rocking the Galaxy S2 Skyrocket.

  • Zach Armstrong

So many people including me are still rocking the Gnex

  • Justin Larmay

I think if the one were on Verizon it would be quite a bit higher.

  • trwb

Bought ready to sell my One X+ and get a more developer friendly device like Nex 4. Hardware is great in One X+. Software sucks, and rooting and romming is the pits. Can’t do shiz with out s-off.

  • Burt Reynolds

    Still rockin the Skyrocket!
