Live: Verizon’s CTIA 2013 Press Event

CTIA 2013 is happening this week in Las Vegas and Tim is there in attendance for one reason, because Verizon scheduled a press event to take place, their first in quite some time. We have no idea what to expect once they take the stage, but you can probably think of a few good reasons. Will it be network related? Is their initial 4G LTE rollout complete? Will VoLTE make its first appearance? Or will we finally see the Verizon-branded HTC One? It could be a combination of all of those things for all we know. Verizon has been tight-lipped on this one, so stick with us during our live blog to see what happens.

The event kicks off at 11:00AM Pacific (2:00PM Eastern).

  • Nick Norman

Maybe the announcement will be the HTC “UNO” phone, only on Viva Movil

  • Bionic

    Oh my god so lame

    • Matthew DiGiacomo

Where’s the XFON when you need it? Talked to Sarge lately?

      • Bionic

        no he isnt available

  • Sean Stone

Didn’t take long to crown a new “Worst Keynote” King (Queen?)

  • zmberven

    I am absolutely speechless.

  • D.J. Cannon

    So for latinos only?

    JLO should just stop speaking…

    • tomn1ce

      You mean reading…

worst thing I’ve ever watched live

  • Tony Dimovski

I think everyone is speechless as to how pointless this is

  • huh

Um… the majority of the sales associates in the Verizon stores in my area speak Spanish already.

  • Tony Dimovski

    this cant be it?!?! Seriously?

    • Tyler Casilio

Well if the border was better and OB didn’t welcome illegal aliens we probably would have got the One

  • Oscar

Sorry, im Latino but this does not strike home one bit!!!!

  • Jeremy_Bowling

A service created just for Latinos? Pretty sure this is racism at it’s best.

    • D.J. Cannon

That’s what i’m saying. Way to racially categorize…

    • aQuickBit

It’s about creating “niche” content/services so that they look really good as a company to the government when it comes to regulation. Nothing wrong with it, but not very popular among majorities.

    • Right, what about us white folks

    • DoubleStandard

It’s ok though, because it’s reverse racism.

  • Daeshaun Griffiths

Well, the in-store play areas are exciting. We all know Latinos have millions of children.

    No offense.

  • pubasnacks77

As 1st generation Latino-American, I find this stupid conference ridiculous and condescending

    • Bionic

      For the Win

    • Futbolrunner

She really felt no shame reading that teleprompter word for word slouched over the podium.

      • tomn1ce

Not to mention she couldn’t stop moving. I guess she not used to high heels….She was very professional slouched over the podium… -_-

  • Tyler Casilio

I feel like I was kicked where it truly hurts. My heart.
Why did I have to get my hopes up for the htc One?

    • Tyler Casilio

I think I’m gonna throw up

  • Jeff Stevens

    whooptie doo

  • col3rsc

  • Tony Dimovski

what the hell is this? J-Lo? Really?

  • stem8987

  • aQuickBit

Please let this just be an intro….this can’t be all :'(

  • all that just for this crap?

  • gamaliel hood

i guess ill jus go study for my test again

  • Tyler Casilio

I feel hurt. Hold me DL 🙁

  • possomcrast

This livestream is really slow( I know it’s not droidlife it’s the site Verizon chose). I get 50Mbps down and it’s still choppy.

    • wordmoss

I have no issue. MLB.tv streaming in the background, downloading a file at 1.7 MiBs, and its smooth as butter for me.

  • Tyler Casilio

Is this a Joke? Seriously, the XBOX ONE was a joke yesterday, but this!?

  • Eric

I could care less about vivamovil

    • Fozzybare

    • Joshua Fowler

If you “could care less” then why don’t you go ahead and start caring less? I’m confused by your choice of words.

    • Start caring less, they don’t care

  • did we really come here for a partnership

  • are you kidding me with this vivamovil? This is the big news

  • Michael Robinson

    Android Police @AndroidPolice

We’re live at Verizon’s CTIA press conference – be warned, we were told the announcement is “not an android.”

  • Tyler Casilio

    HTC UNO?

    • Guest

      HTZ Zero

    • James_75

      HTC ZERO

      • aQuickBit

        HTC CERO

      • Jonathan Williams

        HTC Cero

  • Andrew

  • this is not looking to good for an htc one

  • Jack

  • coolsilver

Damn that was loud in my headset

  • Perhaps they’ll announce they’ll be carrying every Nexus phone from now on. HAHAHAHAHAH

  • Bionic

why does it say my comments are in moderation? lame

    • bakdroid

Sarge didn’t approve them yet. 😛

    • Tyler Casilio

      Me too 🙁

  • JohnBergman

Personally, I’m hoping for no more contracts and HTC One! (Or something better of course…)

However, I am expecting KY Jelly and a bad date.

    • JohnBergman

Looks like that’s what I got, minus the KY Jelly.

  • I would get an HTC One MAXX only. Need that Motorola battery life.

    • Bionic

    • Jack

the battery on the htc one is already amazing it last me 2 days without charge. with havery use a full day and few hours

      • Not for power users.

        • Bionic

          this, 2300mah isnt big enough

  • Bionic

Hell ill watch, why not, maybe we’ll see x phone mini

  • cransr

Looks like im Getting an HTC One after all

  • BRIM

An HTC One variant where instead of the “HTC” logo in front it’ll have the Verizon logo, just like they did with the Note II.

  • BigMixxx

We know the DNA will be gone….
Gonna be a ONE, prolly with an SD card. Could be increased data. but I betcha some verizon labeling is gonna be on the back of the one somewhere….

Droid DNA DLX with 64 gig of internal storage…

  • Derek Lockovich

Something dumb like usual. It’s Verizon. Come on!

  • Daeshaun Griffiths

if it’s the One…I”m with that. If it’s increased data on plans, i’m with that. If it’s no contracts, even though i just signed one for the note 2, i’m with that. I don’t see myself leaving vzw so i’m with all of that.

  • possomcrast

My GS3 is getting really boring…

    • Good News for U! GS4 out tomorrow on Verizon.

See they got your back 🙂

      • possomcrast

Yes but I have a contract.

  • Jack

HTC ONE or an HTC phone for Verizon

  • coolsilver

Last chance to keep me Verizon. That GS4 Google Edition is looking good.

  • Thomas

    Video feed ?

  • Geoff Johnson

No more contracts! We have followed T-Mobile closely and realized that in this day and age, contracts are a thing of the past.

    • Warwick

      Only in a parallel universe.

    • Steve Thornton

except tmobile still has contracts… if you get a phone that is a contract… yes its not a plan contract its a phone contract. You cant leave tmobile if you have a phone contract

      • Geoff Johnson

I wouldn’t consider it the same thing though. With AT&T and Verizon you sign a 2 year contract and you can’t break that without paying an ETF. With T-Mobile, your phone is not on contract, you are simply financing your phone, which you can pay off at anytime and cancel service.

        • Steve Thornton

i think you meant to say “you are signing a 2 year CONTRACT for your phone” call it whatever you want. you cant leave until you pay it all off, contract/financing/morgage/loans etc they are ALL contracts!

        • Adam

same thing when you are on contract pay the phone off and end the service(ETF) is the reminder of the phone price its the same with or without contract.

      • Johnny Volare

Sure you can, they just send you a final bill for the equipment, right? They shifted the contract from the plan to the phone.

        • Only if you choose to do a payment plan.

          • Steve Thornton

well in that case you could ALWAYS by phones outright on EVERY carrier people are just fooled on T-Mobile to think they are “contractless” even though they just shifted it to the phone instead of the plan…. Please tell me EVERYONE sees this?

          • PhoenixPath

Yes, yes, Steve. The contract moved from the plan to the phone. We get it.

            You can chill out now…

          • Steve, what you’re not seeing is that a payment plan for a device is a “contract” for 600 dollars. A 2 year contract for service is a commitment for thousands of dollars.

  • pubasnacks77

If they do announce the HTC DROID ONE ZERO ONE ZERO ONE ONE, I may consider it. My GNex is starting to get a little stale

    • possomcrast

They better not slap “Verizon” across the lovely HTC One design.

    • Zach Armstrong

You forgot Droid Incredible One or Droid DNA One
