Video: Samsung Galaxy S4 vs. Galaxy S3 Comparison

galaxy s4 vs galaxy s3 samsung

Included in our Samsung Galaxy S4 review, we took a pretty deep video look at how this new flagship compares to Samsung’s flagship from last year, the Galaxy S3. But since it was buried towards the bottom of that exhaustive review, we wanted to pull the video out on its own to make sure you all saw it, especially those of you considering a jump from the Galaxy S3 to the Galaxy S4.

In this 9-minute clip, we take a tour of each device, talk specs, show the subtle differences here and there, and discuss our general feelings towards this new member of the Galaxy family.

please remember the octocore is only available in the international version.. the U.S. version ships with quad 1.9ghz

  • sportingchance

Great review – many thanks. Worried about battery life as with S3 – but apparently gives 25% more talk time than S3 – so I have placed my order!

  • e_droid

I haven’t read up on the s4 at all because I am still happy with my s3. I wonder if they fixed the audio issue when recording video. Will be happy if most features get ported over to the s3.

What is the little flashing light on the s4 right next to the speaker grill?

I have a Samsung Galaxy Nexus and I want to update to this phone but is it really worth it? What about the LG Optimus G Pro coming to VZW?

    • PhillipCun

Same boat, but I don’t want the S4.. I’m really disappointed VZW didn’t pick up the HTC One. Next Nexus? X-Phone? I might just pick up the Note 2 to hold me off until something else comes along. I really hate touchwiz though.

      • carluverdrm2004

Same here! I wish Verizon had picked up the One, but I do hate what HTC did to Android… Same with Samsgung… Nothing beats stock Android. Please let the X-Phone have stock android! :D

        • youdoneyo69

Yeah I agree even tho Stock Android might not have all of the features like the S4 Stock Android is still better.

I’m trying to get a sense on how the battery life of the S4 will compare with the Galaxy Nexus? I saw the initial review on the Sprint network, but LTE will certainly be a bigger drain, right?

what is the highest ppi that your eye can actually see?

    • picaso86

      441 ppi

      • Tirionfive

313 according to Apple. The iPhone is rated at 326 ppi

        • PhillipCun

anything “according to apple” is probably for marketing.

          • New_Guy

And for the sake of copping-out to better devices :).

Depends how close you hold it to your face

Isnt the SG3 getting the new TouchWiz eventually and some of the features from the SG4?

    • flosserelli

Probably. But *when* is anyone’s guess.

We can expect the update in June according to a samsung employee.

    • Richard Yarrell

The features in the Galaxy S4 will be coming to the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 in the 4.2.2 update in May/June depending on your carrier. P.s feeling sorry for Verizon’s version of the S3 and Note 2 waiting on 4.2.2 won’t be till July/August. None of these handsets the S4, Note 2, or S3 will see 5.0 Kie Lime Pie till the Galaxy Note 3 is released well after September/October.

The trim looks much better on the S4.

  • T4rd

This thing is going to be crazy with an AOSP ROM on it. I’m really considering trading my Note 2 for one. The big screen is nice, but I miss being able to use my phone comfortably in one hand. This really cuts down on keyboard options since the Samsung keyboard is the only keyboard that works in one-handed mode. If I could get Swype to work in one-handed mode like the Samsung keyboard, it would be MUCH better.

    • http://twitter.com/MattFalu Matt Faluotico

Kii keyboard has a one handed mode.

      • T4rd

I don’t see this one handed mode in the Kii settings anywhere and I see reviews on Note 2 users requesting this feature. Can you tell me how to enable it?

    • al

You just need to get some man hands!

      • T4rd

It seems my body concentrated growth in “other” areas ;-).

        • elfman

          Your ears?

      • New_Guy

Hahah! I was thinking the same thing. I have the Note 2 and I use SwiftKey with Flow turned on and always use it one-handed. And I’m only 5’7″ :).

    • New_Guy

If you download Thumbs Keyboard, you can switch it to one-handed mode and push the keys to the right or left. You can even control how big the negative space is. There’s always a way :).

      • T4rd

Too bad there’s not a free version (that I see) so I can try it out first. I’d like to test it before I spend $2.35 on it.

        • New_Guy

There is a 15 minute rebate period. Serious;y, the setup time is not even 2 minutes and it’s a small file.

The one drawback I have with the keyboard, though, is there is no swipe like feature, although there are gestures for shortcuts. If that’s not a problem for you then this is the best non-swiping keyboard I’ve used thus far.

    Pre-Ordered!
