Droid Life Q&A Sessions: Volume 12

We have a ton of things going on currently, as the 2013 flagship devices are finally starting to arrive in customer’s hands, Google I/O is right around the corner, our HTC One review is finally up, as well as other Android goodness. We like to hold these Q&A Sessions every now and then when we feel there might be some folks looking for answers out there and this is the perfect chance to make sure the DL Staff hears what you have to say. You can ask us Android-related stuff, personal stuff or whatever. Have fun with it!

On Friday, we will go through them all and select a good amount to feature in a post on Friday. Drop down below in the comments section and submit those questions.

To see all of our previous Q&A’s, check them out here.

  • Vickers

Is there an app that will allow you to post updates to Facebook, Twitter and G+ simultaneously?

  • Alex Mosqueda

Alright I know you guys have been busy with the HTC One and now GS4 but are you going to be doing a BlackBerry 10 android comparison anytime soon? I only ask because I personally really like what blackberry brings to the table and if I could would carry both BB10 and Android. I would really like to know what you guys think about the OS after some legitimate one on one time with it

  • Jodel Oceña

I would want to know i rooting is the best way to do to your phone or is rooting makes your phone a lot fun than not rooting?

  • Brent Cooper

    What is your favorite food/meal?

  • Jroc869, Nexus-Life

Even though Nexus phones are pure Android updated by Google, do you think there are almost as many restrictions to using one as there are to having a skinned phone.

I was thinking about it and between the restrictions of what carrier, being stuck with only one option for screen size and generally limited storage it seems like you give up a good deal to run a pure Android phone.

  • Raven

What would make a bigger impact in sales? Samsung moving away from
plastic cases or Apple creating a plastic (polycarbonate) backed cheaper
phone? Ironic that one top maker is looking at (finally) moving away
from plastic whilst the other top maker is looking at moving towards

  • Dylan Patel

What app do you use the most outside of twitter and browser apps.

  • Fattie McDoogles

Google hasn’t done much to the Play Music client in quite some time. What would you guys like to see in an update? Also speaking of the Music app, do you guys think Google will ever release the API so that the OEM’s could add the Play Music service to their own music players?

    • Bigwavedave25

Holding the API captive is the only thing keeping users from ditching the app. I mean if “Now Playing” had that API it would be curtains for GMusic.

  • Chris Hollenbeck

Can you imagine a world with flying spiders?

  • The. Great. Cornholio!

What features would you like to see “stolen” from various Skin and/or ROMs and baked into future iterations of Android?

Now that LeBron has his, who has the most pressure this NBA postseason to get a Ring?

What did Manti Te’o know and when did he know it?

Bigger news story in the land of Android; HTC One’s hiccups or Samsung possibly moving away from plastic?

    Best phone of 2013 that isn’t Android/iOS?

5 years from today: where do you see yourself?

How much do you enjoy/hate the fanboy vs troll battles that erupt in the comments at times? (Or couldn’t care less)

Have you ever commented on this site or another site as someone other than yourself? Why/why not?

  • austin

Galaxy s4 or HTC one ?

    • Rodeojones000

  • What do you think about Marissa Mayer and the whole Yahoo “revival” and partnership with Apple?

  • What’s it like being a writer for a site like this for your job? Do any of you do other work to bring in more cash? How does that work to make a living? Just curious.

    • JetBlue

Ron said he did repair I think computers forget what he said but it involves repair I’m almost positive.

  • Kellen:

    A) The Blazers win a championship next year and Lillard is MVP, but every android phone to debut in the next 5 years will feature a CPU that, when warmed up, smells like poo.

    B) Google launches their own mobile network that they had been secretly preparing. Its called SDLTE (SuperDuper) and can do simultaneous up/ down of 250MB/sec in each direction. The hottest new trend is live celebrity sex tapes via google glass. Unlimited Everything plans start at $19.99 and go up to $29.99 for all the bells & whistles. OEMs and the other 4 carriers scramble to compete and everyone wins with lower prices and epic hardware. BUT…Following the opening game of the next season, Lillard is arrested for tax evasion and sentenced to 10 years. The Blazers don’t see another playoff appearance until 2033. Also, all women smell like poo for 5 years.

    Choose your destiny. Muahaha.

  • jamie stevens

do you know what device will be the first to have the snapdragon 800 and when it will be released? And do you think Key Lime will have multi task windows?

  • Jordan Seaich

Can you guys give my mom a Galaxy S4 for mothers day? She’s a single parent who went through abuse as a child and saved me and my brother from an abusive dad. Her work just took her phone away and I know it would mean a lot to help her know that she is still loved 🙂

    • Fan

Let me shed a tear for you

    • Sirx

Methinks she’s doing pretty well if she has a job that issues phones. At any rate, let her know that Jesus loves her. And if that doesn’t do it for her, I’m sure two devoted and loving sons can think up a gift that would mean more to her and show her more love than any shiny piece of tech ever could.

  • yummy

Is my VZW bill going to be less
when I pay full price for my phone?

    • JoshGroff

This was already established as a no IIRC.

  • What’s your favorite smartphone camera? Favorite shot that you’ve taken? Do you use the stock camera app or something fancier? I’m currently using a GNex and want a better camera for my next phone…

  • I have a HTC Thunderbolt. I am able to upgrade but I am waiting to see what phones are coming to Verizon (HTC One variant, S4 and hopefully the Motorola X). My question is there a way to root the Thunderbolt that is running ICS 4.0.4. The only thing I can find is rooting the Thunderbolt when it had Gingerbread.

  • Jose Fontanez

What’s your take on paying full price for a phone on Verizon just to keep your unlimited data. Seems like a hefty price to pay, but there’s something about letting go of “unlimited” that seems wrong.

    • JoshGroff

If you want to save a bit and don’t mind waiting a few months after release to get a new phone, swappa and ebay are always good. Just get a mint condition used device, and you’re set.

    • Zac St. Louis

I bought a GNex which is 2 years old a couple months ago and I’ve never been happier. Needless to say I came from a Droid Charge, but keeping my unlimited data is a must for me as my apartment has terrible wifi and my 4G just can’t be beat

  • Bigwavedave25

    Kate Beckinsale or Jessica Biel??
    ooh, Kate…

    • The Gooch

Vampire vs Vampire Hunter……ooooh yeah, meow

  • Damian

    1. What’s more important to you? Good hardware or good software?

    2. X-Phone, what are your expectations?

    3. Any weird habits?

    4. Anyone interested in smart watches?

    5. Key Lime Pie? KLP? Android 4.3 or 5.0?

    • El_Big_CHRIS

I too am curious about most of these. Specifically the X phone I want to get a new phone and will have to pay full price to keep unlimited data on VZW, so I want to know if it’ll be worth the wait based on the rumors. I know, but I still have hope

      • michael arazan

What rumors Does The Droid-Life team want in the alleged Xphone?

Can Motorola sell a Verizon device on their own in the play store unlocked like a Nexus or their own site? Since they know everything about verizon’s network already with the droid line.
C-Block rules state that a customer can bring their own device as long as it works on their network

  • jaybar

Predictions for Motorola phones (supposedly) coming out later this year?

  • Bigwavedave25

Any real possibility of a Nexus [4/5] with Vz LTE capabilities from Google anytime soon? Or are we doomed to be at the mercy of the OEM’s and pray for a “stock” Android experience from someone like Motorola??

  • tomn1ce

    What happen to the Tato-show?

    • You know what, THIS WEEK! Lets do it. I will shoot for Thursday night.

      • tomn1ce

Sounds good to me. I bet there others who would like that as well…

      • JetBlue

Hoping for a good guest but might be a little hard after having MKBHD on the show

        • This is true. Hard to top the one and only MKBHD.

  • Benjamin Mackie

Do you think we will ever see multiwindow / multitasking implemented in Android? The main reason I feel i cant use my android tablet as my daily driver is due to lack of ability to do this. If I could open a word doc and a pdf at the same time, or a browser and a powerpoint, in a heart beat id always use my tablet. But this lack of functionality makes it difficult

  • MichaelFranz

NBA playoffs, Thoughts comments, conference finals guess matchups? finals match ups predictions?

  • Christian

In addition to your general thoughts about the next Nexus device set, what the hell do you think they’re going to call them? If the numbers are supposed to correspond to screen size, it seems like things could get awfully confusing here.

    • Rodeojones000

Not sure why anyone finds this confusing. Only the names of the two tablets correspond to screen size. The phones were named Nexus One, Nexus S, Galaxy Nexus, and Nexus 4 (because it’s the 4th Nexus phone, not because of its screen size).

      • Christian

I’m not sure that that’s necessarily true – did Google ever come out to explain the naming system specifically? I’m not denying what you’re saying but I’ve never seen anything about that. Regardless, it’s a weird naming system when you decide to start numbering on the fourth phone. Plus, when they make another ten or seven inch tablet, what will they call it? The question still applies.

P.S. I obviously love Google and don’t have anything against them, but was just curious about this.

  • Warwick

    Are you guys married?

    • Ohhh, to girls…when I first read your question I though you were asking “Are Kellex and Tim married?” as a joke 🙂

Here’s my guess: Kellen is married (he’s always wearing a ring) and the rest aren’t (most are in college)

      • Fattie McDoogles

Eric is the only one in college. Ron is married as well.

    • Kellen is married, Ron is married, Eric is seeing someone, and I am always finding ways to keep myself busy.

      • will bartlett

so you are saying your hands are never free?

        sorry i had to.

  • Bruin617

I’m planning to buy a new tablet. Do you think the Nexus 7 and the Nexus 10 will be upgraded/refreshed any time soon?

    • JoshGroff

They have been spreading rumors, so it’s entirely possible. Either way it’d make sense to wait for I/O since the prices of the older devices should drop. (used especially)

    • Brent Cooper

They should be refreshed somewhat soon if not at I/O i’d think. Just wait for I/O. and see

  • Christian

What do you guys think about the Babel rumors? What do you hope to see, what do you expect to actually see, and what would it take to get you guys to use Babel regularly?

  • Mark Adams

Do you think that Key Lime Pie will change the look of Android, and what do you think of the Nexus “4s” rumors? Would there be a Nexus 5 later this year if it came out?

    • Christian

I’d really like to hear what they think about Key Lime Pie/Android 5.0 and what it will bring. I’ve had a few of my own thoughts but it would be cool to see what Droid-Life predicts!

    • r0lct

From what it sounds the “new” N4 is just going to be a 32 GB model with LTE officially supported slotted in at $400/$429? Just a new flavor of the existing model. Not even worth adding an S to it.

  • Barry Karschner

    I have two questions

1)Im looking for a tablet(10 inch) what should I buy or wait for? The nexus 10 specs are a bit weak I have used it and was hoping for a refresh.

    3) I’m on verizon my contract is up in June I need a new phone what do you suggest? I’m alittle down on the S4 due Samsung has such a heavy overlay on Android.

  • zombiewolf115

wat does it take to unlock a bionic =.=

  • Predictions for I/O : Likely, and dream-state scenarios

    • Austin Warren

      we all know what’s coming

      • Agreed. But Google tends to surprise us with something

What’s the difference between AOSP and AOKP?

    • derek connolly

AOSP = Android Open Source Project. It is the Google made Android code which is available to everyone to download and build for their device. AOKP = Android Open Kang Project. This is a group of developers similar to Cyanogenmod who build Android for certain devices including extra features.

Thank you sir! Never understood til now

        • AlphaNoble

Kang is stolen code. What AOKP does is start with AOSP and make some useful changes here and there. They are kanging AOSP, hence the name AOKP. A more formal term for this would be “forking”

  • gokusimpson

When will you review the Galaxy S4?

  • JoshGroff

What’s the most interesting question anyone’s ever asked you?
