Brief Review: Nexus 10 Book Cover

Cover Header

Last week, the Nexus 10’s first official accessory arrived in Google Play, a simple book cover. This tablet has been on the market for some time now, so it almost comes off as pointless to start pushing out accessories, but we’ll take it. It comes in two colors, grey and scarlet, priced at $30.

The book cover is exactly like you would find for the Galaxy line of smartphones from Samsung. You take off the stock backing, reattach this new one with the cover added and you’re done. While this cover does not completely cover up the front side of the tablet (there is some room for the front-facing speakers), it does a decent job at staying on top of the N10’s display, protecting it from minor things.

To wrap it up, Google should have priced it at $20 and released it months ago, then everyone would be a winner. To catch my full thoughts, watch my hands-on video below.  There is even a guest appearance as well.

Nice review. I think this is a good buy if you plan to “mod” it. Check out my blog and see what I mean http://nexuslove.com/blog/?p=98

I purchased mine wednesday night and still hasn’t shipped. Anyone else having the same issue?

Just like the Nexus 7 accessories, Google needs to be much more proactive about accessories. This stuff isn’t complicated, most of it is just simple injection molded crap that cost pennies which must translate into massive ROI, so I have no idea why are aren’t ensuring this stuff is available at launch.

The rear plastic cover scratches easier than the glass LCD right? So then why not have a full case? Typically people lay the tablet on it’s back when reading, etc. so why not have protection for the rear??!??!!

  • Hope this isn’t the only accessory they are coming out with for the Nexus 10. Maybe something to go with the pogo pins? And was the clip case the only thing that back piece is for?

The video needs credits that say:
    Narrated by Tim
    And Thor as Thor!

  • I dont get it… There are cheaper alternatives that have a nicer feel/more functionality. And to see samsung kinda come out with this its almost a slap to the face, compared to how the S4 and other Galaxy series were pampered.

Wondering why they didn’t make this a “smart-cover” that also acts as a stand when folded back – $30 for just a flip-cover is sad. I bought the Poetic Slimline smart cover which works great (but wish it didn’t add as much bulk – the back of the N10 sits in the case/cover, rather than snapping into the place where this book cover goes).

Mine seems to work just fine as a stand.

I got mine yesterday, really like it. In fact, I’m loving how thin the tablet was because I was using a smart cover full case for a while (since they took forever to release this). Downsides are that it doesn’t really double as a stand, however I have the logitech keyboard that has a case that doubles as a tablet stand. But, I like it so far…just wish we had more official accessories.

    …and there’s a Thor!

Miss our boxer, had to let her cross rainbow bridge 18-months ago.

I like mine overall. Maybe not perfect but a nice around the house cover to keep me from banging up the screen.

  • Am I the only one who cringed when Tim set the N10 screen-down on a hard surface and started sliding it around? haha

    • Don’t you worry, it’s perfectly safe!

“Ahh” said Arthur Dent “This is obviously some strange use of the word ‘safe’ that I wasn’ t previously aware of.”

  • Overpriced for what it is. Who wants to buy mine?
