Wednesday Poll: What Android Launcher Are You Currently Using?

nova launcher update

It has been way too long since we last asked our community members what their favorite Android launcher was. Since the last time we asked, there are a few newcomers to the game who have certainly taken some of that marketshare away from the big dogs. Apparently the last time we asked, Nova Launcher wasn’t even on the scene, so that should definitely change things up.

If you answer β€œOther”, please let us know in the comments which launcher you are using.

What Android launcher are you currently using?

  • I was a long time Apex user, a short time Nova user, and for now, a Holo HD user. I’m surprised it didn’t make the list to be voted on. It has just enough customization and otherwise is lighter than Apex/Nova and runs smoother.

  • I’m shocked at the low number on Go Launcher EX… flat out amazed. Is Nova that much better?

  • Jeremy Roberts

Atom launcher its smooth and very powerful.

  • icons name, please?

  • Hugh jorgan

I’m using tsf shell. It costs around $16, but it’s a great launcher even on my Samsung stratosphere.

  • coolsilver

I’m still using launcher pro. I’m really not in need of a bunch of fancy widgets and features in a launcher

  • Dorian Brooks

Started off with GO on my DInc2. Now I use Nova on my Razr.

I wanna try a setup like in the article pick.

  • anzensepp1987

60 people use Next-Launcher?! That’s weird… Ugliest over-priced launcher of all times (beats SPB Shell 3D)…

  • hans

Other Launcher is just for fun. However pretty, i always go back to stock because of less memory eaten at the RAM and some extra widget that usually custom for the stock launcher πŸ™‚

  • brkshr

    CM10.1 Trebuchet

  • im currently running nova… but at one point i loved TSF SHELL ..i may give it another go when the newest update hits on the 30th

  • Jeremy Bryant

I realize that it’s tantamount to heresy to make this claim here, but the TouchWiz JB launcher is actually pretty good. It lacks most of the options of the rest, but damn it’s smooth and fast. When I get bored with it and need to change things up, I’ll go back to Nova.

  • hackthis02

There should be an option for Android Stock and OEM Stock.

  • Joshyroe

I use Apex launcher on my Galaxy note 2 with jelly bean icon pack. It feels like I have a larger gnex with touchwiz features and s pen. I love it.

  • Daniel

I’m still loving ADW EX, but what makes Nova so great that everyone’s using that these days?

  • I have a stupid question, does any of these launchers void your phone’s warranty?

    • jsf6262

    • noc007

No. It’s one of the glories of Android. Don’t like the launcher, use a different one. Don’t like the Email app, use a different one. Etcetera.

Rooting does, but technically it’s only the difference between 0 and 1.

  • What launcher is being used in the picture?

  • PyroHoltz

How did Trebuchet not make it on this list? Isn’t CM10 one of the most common custom ROMs used?

  • Apostrafee

    Next Launcher!

  • I am loving the new update to Action launcher. The shutters are really handy and nice for someone like me who likes a somewhat minimal layout but still get the info I need. It just replaced my Nova Prime

  • Drew Clouse

Do custom launchers offer any sort of battery life improvements? That’s about the only way I would switch.

    • Sunday Lacrymosa

you could dl a stastics/app killer app, but custom launchers dont really give battery life improvement, but the good ones like nova, don’t take away battery life either so its 50/50

  • Sunday Lacrymosa

Im new to the whole launcher thing, but i started using Nova, its pretty good

  • Wheres trebuchet?

  • BrianLipp

i have Action Launcher but i have too much muscle memory with Nova launcher to switch. Maybe with my next phone.

  • RW-1

I use stock on my Gnex simply because I don’t feel the need to add a program to do what the stock one already does. However I am aware of it’s limited customization (compared to the replacement launchers) but if not using that degree of customization, you see my point. For those who do want that, there are plenty out there to choose from, and you must, must, try them all to find what works for you….

  • Stock all the way. ICS largely eliminated the need for a custom launcher in my case.

  • kaufkin

Stock on Nexus7, Trebuchet 1.0 on Gnexus. LauncherPro on OGDriod for Jr. to game / tinker with.

  • John Wells

ADW EX for me. Has all the bells and whistles that Nova has, but will do one thing Nova doesn’t . . . dock on bottom in landscape mode! I also like the dock icon reflection feature, kinda cool looking.

  • CapnShiner

I’m a little surprised at how few people are using Go Launcher EX. I started using it when LauncherPro stopped getting updates and I haven’t looked back. The constant bombardment of ads for the paid themes is getting pretty annoying, so maybe I’ll look at Nova, but Go Launcher is free.

    • Jim

The ads for paid themes, and bloated extras that Go has are exactly why I left many moons ago!

  • Mike Strollo

How do you add a themed dock to your home screen in Nova? I’ve been looking all over the internet for the answer… No luck. Their are themes for Nova that come with docks so it’s got to be possible, right?

  • Stock(s) Rocks

  • Benjamin Mackie

  • Alex

I use the stock launcher of ParanoidAndroid

  • sonicemerald

just started using Lightning Launcher. You should definitely give it a try, it seems like it’d make making pretty robust homescreens a breeze. It’s a horizontal and vertical launcher. (THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS!!!)
Be prepared to give it a while to sink in though, the options are insane.

  • kg215

Can’t complain about nova launcher. Backup your layout easy to use and customize. AOKP comes with it.

  • Abhisshack D

seems like Nova Prime is better Than Apex Pro, could any one elaborate me how and where Nova Prime shines over Apex Pro !?

    • Steve Benson

They’re about the same. Nova is more popular because they were quicker to become more polished and feature rich.

      • Abhisshack D

        thanks for the reply πŸ™‚

  • SF Launcher

  • Tsabhira

Nova on my Gnex and Nex7
    Apex on my Droid 4
ADW on my OG Droid and Droid 2 deluxe alarm clocks… hehe.

  • DanWazz

I use Nova on my GNex and some on my N7. I do all my customization on my phone and keep the tablet stock.

  • udispyn

    adw no chance to vote

  • Spaniard85

I’m currently on MIUI v5… so do I choose stock or other? πŸ˜›

  • I’m surprised Holo Launcher isn’t in there. Its a good competitor for Apex and Nova. I typically use Apex on my Nexus 7, but I answered the poll with my daily phone which runs Holo Launcher.

Shame though, Launcher Pro can still be used on Froyo/Gingerbread as its the best launcher for that platform. But I firmly believe the dev has abandoned it which is a big disappointment after hyping up the re-write in the code. Oh well, we have Apex, Nova, Holo Launcher, Go Launcher, and others to compensate.

  • Mike

Just installed LauncherPro for nostalgia’s sake πŸ™‚

I run Nova Prime, got it for 25 cents on sale.

Another one not in the poll is Holo, gives ICS look for GB. I ran it on my Inc2, girlfriend runs it on her D2. He also has Holo HD, which breaks compatibility with GB.

  • i have nova launcher but i dont even know why i have it compared to others lol

  • Mark Mann

i use the stock blur launcher, but only because of the circle clock widget…and please don’t say one more clock widget or the other one…they’re not the same…the rom i’m using comes stock with apex, and i do liket hat launcher too, but i keep finding myself coming back to stock blur

    • Mark Mann

i also bought adw launcher ex, and launcherpro…back before it was given up on launcherpro was my launcher of choice

  • Cornbread

    Holo Launcher HD ftw!

  • Hum, don’t understand why people pick the vanilla UI Launcher above others. For me the ADW Ex always been the best Launcher available. The rewrite does it for me. Offers me everything I need although I payed for apex I think (can’t remember since it’s the same as Holo and Nova. I picked apex just for the name).

But ye, I got stock android UI if I don’t use ADW on my nexus, so why ever go back to apex or nova?! Pretty happy with Anderweb’s underestimated work (which always was a shame).

BTW, Im using a fullscreen homescreen, no docks, statusbar, apps, shortcuts, whatever, clean and simple + minimalistic txt + minimal reader + eye in the sky…1 screen only. So maybe Im just not the average user.

    • Same deal here for the most part. 5 screens with the middle three all clean and the ends as calendar and flipboard, music keyring pandora on the other, Hidden dock row and running GoLauncher. Freaking sweet…

  • Jack Williams

Used Launcher Pro (paid version) on my still functional OG Droid.
Using stock on my Samsung Galaxy S lll.

  • Nova, because it’s as close to stock JB as one can get without rooting. Prior to ICS, it was GoLauncher all the way. But Go never evolved with Android.

  • bassman418

Even when I had my gnex, I used Nova. Still do on my gnote2. Love it.
