Nexus 7 Dock Finally Arrives in Google Play Store, Priced at $29.99

nexus 7 dock

From what we can tell, the official Nexus 7 dock has finally arrived in Google Play after months of waiting. In even better news, it’s only $29.99, which is close to $10 cheaper than at other online retailers. We took a look at this dock back in January and liked it for the most part. I can tell you already that I would have liked it even more had it only run me $30.

It has microUSB and audio out ports, but not HDMI, since the device doesn’t support MHL or HDMI-out.. So if you were hoping to use this dock to mirror your device to a TV or monitor, sorry. This really is nothing more than a stand that charges your tablet through POGO pins and can be attached to headphones or speakers to produce audio.

Play Link ($29.99)

Cheers Bill!

Received mine today. The dock itself is actually very sturdy and solid. I was afraid it would feel like a piece of hollow plastic but thats not the case. But it comes with nada. No power supply nor usb cables. Not that I really care because for me it would just be more wasteful plastic since I have several dozen micro usb cables laying around and an extra half a dozen usb outlets.

And the nice thing about it is that you can sit it up in portrait mode. But obviously it won’t charge since the pogo pins aren’t lined up.

We are out of inventory. Please check back soon.
    That didn’t last long

Ordered mine yesterday afternoon and got an email at 330am saying that it has shipped. That was fast.

  • Dan

I use the same dock I got for my GS3 for my note2 and my Nexus.. not sure why you need a Nexus dock

  • Brandon Golway

No thanks, my ex-girlfriend bought my a portfolio style prop-up case for mine so this isn’t really worth it to me.

Should work fine with my case (Poetic) just fold the cover back.

What’s with the half-assed treatment Android gets my from the accessory makers? People make 1st and 3rd party gear before Apple even announces their stuff

    • sirmeili

I believe at one point Google was going to make a program for manufacturer’s to join that would set up a standard for port location and the like. I don’t know if it just fizzed out or not ,but I wish they would get on it.

The reason you don’t have a lot of accessories is that though android now outsells iPhones, iPhones have a common interface and port location. So it’s easy to make the accessories. Add to that the fact that android uses usb and you are limited in what you can transfer. Basically no audio, so you also have to have the phono connector to consider for speaker docks (this one uses the pogo pins which provides audio).

Now, if Google could really get that program off the ground and manufacturers were willing to join it, I think you’d see a change. Unfortunately, I think that Android manufactures are too concerned about being differentiated from the rest that they would rather have no accessories than to be bundled with a group of other android devices, even though that may in fact be better for the consumer.

      Just my $.02

  • NexusMan

i might get this, since it’s $30. Been using my 7 as an alarm clock for the past few weeks on a stand.

  • summit1986

I ordered my Treegloo case in October… But I’ll get this first if I order it tonight.

  • Daniel Clifford

Anyone know of a case that will work with the dock? My current case is falling apart and I just placed my order.

  • If i knew this would work with the next gen N7 I would buy it. More than likely it wont though,

  • jeez i might have purchased it if it was $20 shipped, not $38…

    • Simon Belmont

Ha. So it’s $8 for shipping?

I was wondering about that. Thanks for posting this.

      • michael arazan

There are site’s now that will do 3-d printing for you, for Nexus products you want, just provide the dimensions I figure.

  • After mandatory 2 day shipping its 40 anyway.

  • dannyWHITE

All this talk of the Nexus 7 accessories with the DODOcase’s/sleeves and now dock…..makes me wanna buy a Nexus 7!

  • And bought.. I am gong to use this in my Car install of my 7..

  • MoLo16

It’s about time. Glad it’s cheaper than expected, I had to cancel my preorder from Adoroma

  • bull3964

It doesn’t even include a charger. $30 seems pretty steep for a hunk of plastic to mirror two ports from the pogo pins.

I honestly might have considered it if it had come out right alongside the N7 and I could have included it in my preorder. But now that the thing is 9 months old, I can’t really bring myself to consider buying it.

    • Pdiddy187

I foolishly paid $70 for the GNex dock. I use it and like it though.

      • 4n1m4L

I foolishly paid 98 (with shipping) for mine. I wish I had 2

      • Brandon Golway

Me too, I’m actually going to sell mine because I don’t like how tightly it fits my LTE Gnex (even after shaving the insides). Plus music drops oout (sounds like it’s skipping) since it doesn’t make a good connection with the pogo pins 100% of the time and also for some reason the dock causes Pandora to crash constantly. Also something else always crashes but I can never figure out what it is, half the time when I insert the phone into the dock it will pop up a selection box asking me if I want to do something via Drive or Gmail, after I select one or the other it’s just a basic crash report with barely any info.

        • Pdiddy187

I just used a lighter to heat the plastic and docked and undocked mine until it fit well. I don’t experience those issues.

        • You need to sand/shave more. Mine is a little awkward but I wouldn’t trade it for the world. Use it for music at bedtime/getting up and as an alarm clock. Plus, I already wore out the micro-usb on one phone, I don’t want to do that again, especially because I imagine you cannot get a GNex these days, can you?

          • Brandon Golway

Thanks man, I’ll give it a try.

  • I love my dock.

If, after taking this long to come out, it doesn’t also fit the (presumed) successor coming out this summer, I’m going to be pretty upset.

  • Bionic

I’d venture a guess that 75% of people have a case on their nexus 7. Rendering this useless.

    • Joe

I would guess more like 30%

      • Aaron

I would say 38.7% is more accurate.

    • sirmeili

I have a case for mine that does the auto on/off when you open/close it. I like it, but I think I’ll get this dock as well and only use the case when I travel (not when I’m around the house). The case is pretty easy to put on, so it shouldn’t be too much of a hassle.

  • RedPandaAlex

And still not a single accessory for the Nexus 10

  • Shane Redman

Great….after I sell my N7. (Waiting to see what’s outted in May)

  • EC8CH

Reassurance would be nice that this will work for the next gen of N7.

    • I reassure you, that it will not. There. 🙂

  • Did we ever see one of these for the N10? That’s what I need one for, not the N7.

    • jeesung

not yet, but maybe in 2014 😉

    • 4n1m4L

A pogo cable has shown up, made by a third party

    • I’m wating for eactly the same thing. They previewed it in the Christmas video, but no one has seen it since then

  • JetRanger

Hard to expect HDMI or even try to look elsewhere when the Nexus 7 isn’t capable of HDMI out.

    • Not going to lie, I forget that it doesn’t have MHL or HDMI time and time again. Thanks for keeping me in line. 😉

      • sirmeili

To be honest, if we could get miracast, I don’t see the need for hdmi out or MHL. I don’t thing I’d honestly like my input device (tablet) sitting across the room from me while I watch something on my TV from it.

      • JetRanger

All good. That’s because its the one feature it really should have!
