We’re Now Taking ROM Submissions for Custom ROM Friday!

Last week’s user-submitted Custom ROM Friday went so smoothly, we’re doing it again! With so many different phones and tablets out there, we know it’s easy to have some great work fall through the cracks and into the black holes of the Internet, so here is your chance to make sure that favorite developer of yours is getting some spotlight.

Here is an example of what we are looking for:

Hey DL dudes, check out this ROM the “insert device name.” You can see it here at “insert link to forum/thread here” and it’s totally sweet because “insert various reasons why you need to share this ROM with the world here.”

Tomorrow, we will go over any submissions and write up a few to share with everyone.

  • Chris Mullins

Well Carbon ROM last week was really cool, except that the navring for Google Now opens, stays open, and hides itself on the right edge of the screen, disabling all other touches until you find the invisible google now button.

  • gimlet72

    Drew Garen ORCA

  • topherct

    MMuzzy toro 4.2.2 French Vanilla

  • Lawrence Milford

Hey DL dudes, check out the JB-MR1 ROM for the Acer A500. You can see it here at http://forum.tegraowners.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=1046 and it’s totally sweet because it is a nearly completely stable JB 4.2.2 for the A500 and is smoother than a baby’s bottom!!!

  • Lawrence Milford

Hey DL dudes, check out the JBC by TheKraven on the LG Optimus S. You can see it here at http://forums.androidcentral.com/lg-optimus-s-rooting-roms-hacks/238179-rom-cm10-1-pac-rom-jb-4-2-2-jbc-alpha-build.html and it’s totally sweet because its friggin JB 4.2.2 on an LG Optimus S!!!

Late entry, but my vote is for ATOM by Prime Directive with Team Vanir over at http://droid-hive.com/index.php?/topic/235-rom-atom-422-v8-0225/

I like to call this rom ATOMic, because it is such a hybrid(yes Iknow overused term), the devs initial staetment in the OP is “This AOSP is not limited to CM, Vanir, CNA, EOS, AOKP etc. you get the best of all of them.. custom tailored for the galaxy nexus (and nexus 7 soon). no bloat for other devices or unusable additions in the source. the benefit? less bugs and a more optimized experience. More major features will be added from your favorite roms as soon as i can port and improve on them. I will listen to requests but don’t get offended if i put them on the back-burner or decide against including them.”

Bottom line the rom has great features & functionality from many other roms with the devs personal challenge & commitment to make each release the best

  • LiquidSmooth is really good. Just been released for HTC One S as well.

Xpert ROM for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus
    Link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2145783&goto=newpost
This is a really cool ROM that makes your phone not only look like and Xperia Z, but it feels like one too with Bra via Engine 2, Audio Mods, and other really cool items!

  • Alter

You’ve already talked a bit about ParanoidAndroid, but I think it deserves a full write-up, because you can customize it on a per-app basis, by changing DPI, layout, statusbar and navbar colors. Of course, there’s also the PIE, which makes navigating without the navbar very easy. I’d call all of that very sweet.

  • windhoarse00

I’m a super mad ROM flasher and the absolute best ROM right now is “Root box”! Yes no doubt its has to be experienced then you’ll see what I’m talking about.

  • Zac St. Louis

I’m going to have to say Carbon Rom. I know it won last week, but I started on CM10.1 then moved to Xenon HD both with their flaws, and then I saw Carbon Rom was good and flashed it tweaked it modded it underclocked it and nothing can slow this baby down. That’s why it’s got my vote

  • Nicolas Pipitone

You need to take a look at what Santod is doing with his Roms over at Infected Roms. He’s dropped 5 roms for those of us still rocking the Thunderbolt that’s based off the official OTA. All amazing roms. He’s always on the forums responding to questions and is constantly updating each of his roms. I’m honestly not sure how he keeps up. But my vote would be for either his Nuborn Rom or NuSense Rom. Both are fantastic. Thanks DL.

  • Shiny Rom for the Galaxy Nexus. It’s definitely the best rom for anyone who misses Peter and BB. The dev usually updates the rom weekly and plenty of mods for it. Check it out at Rootzwiki – http://bit.ly/ZNvtrC

  • dylan84

AOKP AOKP AOKP AOKP AOKP Jellybean 4.2.2. That is all.

    • Mack

    • Du

Love my data connection dying on SGS3. I really wish AOKP had better QA

  • Lakerzz

ViperDNA for the DROID DNA. I believe it’s up to version 1.1.3 as of now. I like how they utilize the OTA update process for the phone.

    • Joey

right on. great rom, yes, 1.1.3 as of today. its what stock roms should be

  • ChuckDz3

Check out project elites builds! I have been running them for a few months as amazing as it was on the OG!

  • dcvolcom909

    Mmuzzy 4.2.2 for Toro http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762846
Stockish, fast, smooth, additional mod addon zips available if you wish. Perfect ROM!

  • MichaelFranz

Eclipse TW for GS3. I’m testing the latest release. Good customization. Dark themed, AOSP Style with minimal TW.

  • Jimneezy

Running the Xylon ROM with 4.2.2 on my Nexus 4 with the Franco kernel, crazy smooth and best battery life I’ve ever had on any ROM on any device. Here’s the link if anyone is interested http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2046968

  • KleenDroid

Hey dudes… Give Atom a try on the Gnex. Its got everything, including Pie. Very smooth and fast.

    Blah blah, here it is:

  • Hey DL. Check out Minco Rom. YOu can find it here: http://minco.mobi/ I like it because it is a partnership between Franco Francisco (who makes Franco Kernel, and works for Google) and Minooch (who is just plain epic.) It is available for the Galaxy Nexus variants and the Nexus 7.

  • Jonathan Paul

May I introduce you to ReVolt.

This is most definitely the best ROM for the nexus 4, and anything else that it may end up installed on! There is tons of customizability. Pie Launcher. Full Navigation Bar customization! Full customization for almsot everything. Runs BUTTERY smooth. Very few bugs.

    Love it!

  • Nate

Check out VanirAOSP: Tons of customization from AOKP, AOSPA, CM, and others–but the beast is Linaro customized–performance is ridiculous. The N7 build hit benchmarks in upwards of 8-9k. Available here: http://rootzwiki.com/topic/38860-rom-vanir-v4002betajb-422214-v4001jb-42125-yeah-its-got-a-hemi/

AK even designed a custom kernel for us. 😉 Thing is hotter than most things.

  • byyy

  • Ty

Came across JellyBam for the Sprint GS3 only a couple days ago and am already head over heals. Beast of a ROM. Super smooth, battery saver, and basically all the features and customizations from AOKP, CM10.1, and Paranoid Android. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2159087

  • george harris

  • meetloaf13

Whompasaurus ROM v2.7.1 from team WHOMP for the Note II

Probably the best ROM I’ve ever run on an Android device (and that’s saying s/t since it’s TouchWiz based):

  • james Haury

Hey DL dudes, check out this ROM the “galaxy note 2 vzw.” You can see it here at “http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2154420 and it’s totally sweet because “the overall performance and battery life is one of the best I’ve seen .”

  • P.A.C.-man Rom for the d2vzw. Smooth, stable and so many features from many other roms like AOKP, CM10.1, PA. I’m a flash addict and this one is what I’ve been rolling with lately as my DD. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2028443

  • Austin

Gin2Blur rom for the Xperia Play “http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33696801” its based off of stock 2.3.3, fast, reliable.

  • chad

XenonHd for Gnex is great. Lots of customization with good battery kernel and runs so so smooth. http://rootzwiki.com/topic/25970-rom-xenonhd-stable-50-230213/

  • I would suggest Teambamf 2.4, but they haven’t put out a new version of their ROM since like end of December. Don’t know if they split or 4.2.x was too unstable for them to release a Custom ROM for it.

I would also suggest Paranoid 3.0. Pretty good release. Lots of customization, though I’ve had trouble with their tethering setup.

  • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

WOW this post doesn’t have 1500 comments yet? Must not be a giveaway and there must be ACTUAL Droid Life FANS in here!

    • El Big CHRIS

Lmfao right? I don’t even bother with the contest because there are so many people who come out to spam them. I’m running Carbon ROM but I’m gonna go back to AOKP for the new update. GNex lte

  • Rodeojones000

Hey DL Dudes, check out AOKP PUB builds. Info can be found here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=37955371&posted=1#post37955371

They’re based upon official AOKP builds but with added speed (Linaro stuff that’s way too technical for me). The builds were started by Steve Spear – official AOKP developer, but have since been taken over by Andrew Xie (Fabulous/Bigxie on forums and developer of Apex ROM for DroidX). Builds are available for Manta, Maguro, Toro, and Mako.

  • rkpeterson

You have got to check out Project Elite for the Galaxy Nexus over at DroidForums.net actngrezy and buckmarble have it together the most stable, quick ROM with great batteryll life and all the extras that are actually useful (pie, sound improvements, status bar and dock tweaks). ROM builds for toro and maguro.

    • Zander_206

Best ROM for the Gnex by far.

  • Nico V

    CM 10.1

  • Check out the Orca Project for Nexus 4 and many other devices. Lot’s of features, great battery life, built from AOSP. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2158498

  • Landshark535

I would recommend Helly Bean. It is a CM10 offshoot that supports most Galaxy S, Galaxy S II, and Galaxy S III variants as wells as the Nexus S and Galaxy Note. I have only been using it for a little while, but it has great speed, good stability, and one of the more tertiary features that helps to set it a part from CM and AOKP is that has Facebook sync enabled.

  • schmaltzy

Carbon ROM! Thought I’d try again. Their ROM is working awesome!

    • Goodriddance183

Running 1.4 on my GNex Toro with no problems so far. Pretty slick.

  • Tim242

Hey DL dudes, check out Jelly Beans for the Verizon Note II. You can see it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2032447. It’s totally sweet because you get all of the TW features, but with AOSP theming. It also gives you all apps in multi window. It truly is the best of both worlds.

    • Big_EZ

Thats what iI run, but it’s not the best of both worlds. It has none of the benefits of AOSP, except the theme. For me none of the benefits of AOSP trump multi window though, so I’ll stick with touchwiz.

    • Futbolrunner

Hmm..I’m definitely going to try this out.

    • KOBALT

I came here just to say this. BEST ROM EVER.

    • AlphaNoble

      I’m running Beans 10!

      • Tim242

I’m loving the new OTA update function.

    • Rickerbilly

My post exactly 7 days ago…
Jelly Beans for Note 2 and GS3 – Fully customizable TouchWiz-based ROM. It is the best of both worlds, AOSP and TW. Try it!

    • Another one for BeansRom!! Tim, you know you dig your Note, BeansRom is the best thing I have done with my Note II since i bought it..

      • Tim242

I def dig my Note. BeansRom is da $hit! Now, I wanna ride that bike! Haha

  • Jared

Hey, I suggest checking out Mmuzzy’s ROMs. He makes slightly modified AOSP ROMs a lot like Peter Alphonso used to make. The link to his VZW Galaxy Nexus (hereafter referred to as GNex) forum on XDA is: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762846. He has kindly started compiling the ROM for pretty much all Nexus devices. I run it on my Nexus 7 and my GNex. It’s also available for the Sprint GNex and the unlocked GNex, the Nexus 4, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10. Check it out.

  • Liquid Smooth for Droid 4… buttery smooth, works perfect.

    • DaveIsAwesome

Worked well on my RAZR MAXX, just no MMS on it. 🙁

      • MMS works fine for me. Just make sure you do a clean install. Ive rebooted numerous times and MMS runs great. And the latest RC is amazing with how many more customization options it has.

        • DaveIsAwesome

Maybe it’s just my phone, I haven’t gotten MMS to work with any JB ROMs yet. I also have random camera issues but nothing to big. I do wipe system and factory reset when installing and I will say everything else works really well.

          • The only camera issues I have had are with snapchat and instagram. But other than that everything (other than the obvious bluetooth bugs) works, and works well

          • Guest

Are you using the XT912 with Verizon, or the XT910 international version?

          • DaveIsAwesome

Maybe things are a bit different on the Droid 4 then they are on the RAZR MAXX.

  • Michael Phillips

    • John

It’s just stock rooted pretty much.
