I believe this uses a liquid medium to drive pistons that rotate a standard generator. Hardly very efficient, but it ought not make your beer warm.

This works differentiating the temperature between the sides. So if you placed the Blue side (cold) on a cooler metal table and then put your tea or coffee on the coaster, the temperature changes would create more power. Similarly if you put an ice cold beer/soda/water, etc on the blue side while the RED (hot) side was on your leg or inside of a warmer apartment, it would be more powerful. Yes $115 is a lot but the majority of it is going to their sister project that is working on water power using this tech to aid 3rd world countries…in a sense you donate $75 to their charity and get a cool $40 charger

I’d go as high as $45. $115 is a bit ridiculous. It would take several 55 gallon drums of coffee to pay for itself at that price.

If this uses a heat engine, it is moving heat to make electrons flow. If this is the case it is either moving energy to or from the beverage you have sitting on it. Therefore, if you have coffee on it, it will take heat away from the cup, if it is a “cold beer” it will move heat energy to the beer. This will make you glass of whatever colder or hotter quicker. So this is not a good buy to me.
