nexus 7 won't charge

In a recent press release, Qualcomm felt like it would be a good idea to remind folks that having a Snapdragon processor in your mobile device is a good thing. If you have noticed that while charging your Snapdragon-powered smartphone/tablet that it charges quicker than your previous non Snapdragon-powered device, then you aren’t hallucinating. In fact, newer Snapdragon devices come equipped with Quick Charge 1.0, a technology that helps charge your device up to 40% quicker.

A phone with Qualcomm Quick Charge 1.0 can charge up to 40% faster than older phones. A phone without Quick Charge 1.0 could be stuck plugged in charging for more than four hours. With Quick Charge 1.0, the same phone can reach its full charge in three hours or less.

Want to know if your phone has Quick Charge 1.0? Here is a brief overview of devices that have this hidden feature. The DROID DNA, Galaxy S3, Nexus 4, One S, EVO 4G LTE, Spectrum 2, Optimus G, RAZR HD, RAZR M, and whole ton of others. For a full list and more detailed look into Quick Charge, you can hit up Qualcomm’s blog.

  • What does battery charge rate have to do with Qualcomm silicon??
Your bottleneck is the 1 amp (5 watts) from a USB 3.0 connector, or a bit more from some beefy USB power ports that plug into the wall.
Yes you need circuitry to monitor incoming voltage, current, battery temperature and perhaps internal resistance but what does charge rate have to do with chips? It’s not a specialized technology, it doesn’t take high tech hardware to manage a single cell lithium battery.

Yeah just make sure you use the charger that came with the phone. All chargers are not equal

My galaxy s3 charges 100% faster, due to my extra battery đŸ˜‰

  • Sounds like it may not work as well (or at all) with wireless charging.

“Quick Charge 1.0 is offered to our customers as an integrated solution (as part of the PMIC, or power management integrated circuit) and a standalone solution that interfaces to the USB connector. Any phone or tablet’s charging port can be enabled with Quick Charge.”

I have never timed it, but I know for sure my GN2 will do near a full charge in about 2 hours. Or so it seems.

  • I originally thought this was some sort of new software feature. But nope, just something I’ve had and gotten accustomed to for the past 7 months.

  • yiannis

Does the DNA charge faster only with the supplied HTC charger, or do we need to change something like load a custom ROM?

    • Dr_Buttballs

      It’s a feature of the phone/processor. I don’t believe a different ROM would matter.

  • Big_EZ

My Galaxy Note 2 with exynos charges 50% faster thanks to the included 2A charger

    • moelsen8

yeah those rapid rate chargers are baller. i have a few of the blackberry premium chargers and they’re fast.

    • r0lct

Yeah, when I first started charging my Note 2 I thought I had a problem with the battery it charged so much faster than my GNex or Nexus 7. But then the battery kept lasting all day and just figured it was a feature.

      • Big_EZ

It’s not a feature, it’s just the charger. It’s 2 amps instead of the usual 1 amp so it charges twice as fast.

        • Jared Smith

40% faster = 1.4 times faster =/= twice as fast

          • Big_EZ

My phone charges twice (2x’s, 200%) not 40% faster, and it’s not because of what is in the article, it’s because of the 2 amp charger. Most phones come with a 1 amp charger, but you can buy aftermarket 2 amps chargers (3rd party are generally not as high as rated though), however the Galaxy Note 2 comes with a 2 amp charger as standard.

Wow, I never noticed that! Ive been using the supplied USB cable for my comp and have been using my old BB charger by my bed every night. I just checked it.. 700mA! lol

Def gonna use the supplied adapter. Thanks!

      • Big_EZ

I use an old Motorola 1 amp at night since it’s gonna be there for 6-8 hours and keep the 2 amps charger in the living room for quick charges if I’m low.

        • michael arazan

Why does my old Moto charger charge my gnex faster than my samsung charger that came with it, it’s my old D1 charger.

    • Richard Yarrell

Yeah Qualcomm forgot to mention all those listed devices have batteries that deplete 60% faster as well. That’s why they need to be charged quicker than any other Android device. I’ll tell you thank god my Galaxy Note 2 doesn’t have these snapdragon battery ussues. I get 9 to 11hrs of on screen time daily on my Galaxy Note 2 the battery life on that is the best on the market.

      • squiddy20

“Yeah Qualcomm forgot to mention all those listed devices have batteries that deplete 60% faster as well.” And your proof of this is…. where? By all means show us the wealth of research that proves this retarded little “fact” of yours. My bet is, you can’t.

  • moelsen8

i think they forgot to include this “quick charge” in my N4.
