I think Google should buy out the US Postal Service. They are loosing money everyday and the rumors of fewer delivery days and bankruptcy…why not let Google run it.

But it’s not its own airport in any way and that analogy isn’t really equivalent to what they are planning; a more apt analogy would be a one bedroom guest house out behind a mansion. If anything it’s more like its own passenger terminal.

At virtually every passenger airport across the country, there are companies called FBOs. What google will do is team up with arguably the most luxurious FBO out there and build its own facility, the majority of which will be flat concrete on which to park aircraft. It will probably consist of a several hangers with a central lobby, front desk, lounge, kitchen/dining area, and flight planning area.

In order for a plane or helicopter to take off they will still have to coordinate with San Jose International’s clearance, ground control, tower, and arrival/departure as well as use San Jose International’s taxiways, runways, and fuel service trucks. This is definitely a poorly worded headline.

But really for all intents and purposes… it’s basically their own airport. If you let me build another house own your property with my own separate door and separate driveway doesn’t that make it “my” house even though its on “your” property?

Wow… this article is really poorly worded. Google is not building their own private airport complete with runway — they just want their own private hangar and lobby at the already fully functional San Jose airport. Talk about making a big deal out of nothing. “Google to build private airport” must get more hits though.

This is not an exclusive Google-port. It’s a new General Aviation facility and the Google fleet would be one customer, but would service other corporate & private airplanes.
