$50 controllers?! Haha! That is pretty much the price of an Xbox 360 controller, and yeah, the OUYA is no Xbox 360. I toyed with the idea of picking one up up, but now I am not going to. Plus, hearing that it will be infested with “pay-to-win” games, well, I do everything I can now to escape the disease known ironically as “free-to-play”, or as I like to refer to it, “free-to-pay”. I can guarantee you that that extra controller costs them $10 to make, and as always, the mark up on peripherals is gigantic. I wonder if they engineered the console so it will accept WiFi or Bluetooth controllers? Highly doubtful considering they want you to buy extra controllers at half the cost of the console. Someone flunked math.

The Gnex mirrors on the tv great, but only half the games can be played with a controller, some touch games like angrybirds or atomic bomber I don’t think you can use with a controller, but awesome for the first person shooters which is what I do with it anyways

I hope your right, and that its more then just a niche market. But I don’t really see this going anywhere beyond that. If there is hope for anything bringing down the big three, it would be steam not this.

I was more thinking if this became really popular the devs may make more Tegra exclusive games in the Android store just because it would be easier to just make one specialized app for both.

In this case it’d be device exclusive instead of chip exclusive. (Similar to the PlayStation store)

Judging from the millions (billions?) being generated in mobile gaming there are many people who enjoy value gaming. They may not need or want COD or Halo at home either. They may be happy with a gaming experience that isn’t hard core and offers value while not occupying their phone/tablet while supplying superior multi-player opportunities by not worrying about a call messing it up or sub-par on-screen controls. Time will tell if that’s enough.

I already own an Xbox360 and ordered one via kickstarter. My hope is it’s disruptive enough to the big 3 that prices don’t keep soaring higher and indie content has an outlet outside of mobile.

The one advantage OUYA will have is exclusive games. (Which is what we always complain about with Tegra, so I’m not sure why it’s a plus in this case.)

Agreed here. This is most likely the market they will appeal to as well, rather than the techies like us that understand everything in this post. haha. Honestly, I like the Gamestick idea better. More portable, cheaper for the casual gamer, and most likely will be good for emulators, which is what I would use it for I’m sure.

Ok. it was $30, they must have changed it. If you go to the website and click pre-order you’ll see that for a second it flashes up the old prices and then redirects to the new pre-order page.

Even the source article from WSJ says its $30 on the site. That must have been a recent change to charge $50 for the controllers (if you stop the page before it redirects, it specifically says you can pre-order up until Feb 4th, so maybe starting today the price went up).
