Nexus 4 Available Again in the Google Play Store (Update: Bumper Also in Stock)

lg nexus 4 official

You better hurry – the Nexus 4 is back in stock at the Google Play store!

Play Links:  16GB | 8GB | Bumper Case

  • Kevin Olson

    Got one!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=808110267 Brad Kou

no one ever really mentioned it but don’t you think it’s very decieving how they advertise such a low price and then charge 30$ in shipping? I think google needs to give us some free shipping for all the trouble they’ve caused us. KELLEN MAKE IT HAPPEN

    • socalrailroader

      $30? It’s $13.99, plus Tax.

  • Kevin Olson

Damn… do I sell my iPhone 5 on ebay and buy a Nexus 4??

  • MooleyBooleyTroll

Not the greatest phone on the planet but you can’t ask for much more from a $350 phone off contract… Have had one for awhile now and my only complaint would be the battery life. Also can’t beat the $30 plan on T-Mo

  • tharealoc

Does anyone know if there is a data only monthly sim offered by tmo or att? I want to get a nexus 4 as just a google voice phone since im still locked in contract with verizon. a data only monthly sim would be great…anybody know of this option?

  • enigmaco

I can’t remember but its good sign when they deduct the money for the phone right? When I ordered it only gave me the option of two day shipping as well so I am guessing I will receive it quickly once it ships out.

  • UnixPimp

Google charged an authorization against my card already. Does that mean it is shipping soon?
I used to develop & support the credit card systems for a major retailer, so an authorization is just that; an authorization. Settlement of the payment is where the card is officially charged. An authorization only holds for so long before it expires, and then the merchant has to request an authorization again.
I think I am answering my own question here. I think Google is getting an authorization way ahead of actual shipment, and they only settle the transaction upon shipment.
Any Google insiders know more about their billing processes?

    • http://twitter.com/dennislaska dennis laska

no it’s just a pending charge to see if you have available funds.

      • UnixPimp

I already got a shipping notice from Google. Now that was fast!

  • http://twitter.com/duface2 Nate Bousfield

I’m now super pissed that I just bought a TMobile one. $300 down the drain.

    • JRomeo

      what’s their return policy?

      • http://twitter.com/duface2 Nate Bousfield

I looked, and by the time I would have gotten a Play version, the window would have closed, and I need to have my phone.

        • JRomeo

well, that need just cost you $300 then. you could have gotten a burner phone for $20 from craigslist or anywhere.

          • http://twitter.com/duface2 Nate Bousfield

well, if you look at it from the perspective that I don’t need to buy another phone in a year to get to newest version of Android (any non-nexus phone) it’s not THAT bad. Still $300, though

          • JRomeo

hmm, or if you keep your original packaging, manual, box, etc. then repackage the phone and sell it in october for $300, then in November, when the new Nexus comes out, buy it for $349, small out of pocket expense, and latest phone.

  • Steven

German play store was the first with nexus 4 in stock but we do not get the damn bumper. It’s unbelievable that they rerelease the nexus without the bumper case. You do not get it anywhere else but I will not pay another 14 $ for shipping :(.

  • NYAvsFan

Also thank you to Droid-Life for the heads up on this, otherwise might have missed it completely.

  • zwade

    eBay N4 sellers

  • capitalist

Just bought 50 of these nice little units. And I’ll be selling them on e-bay for a nominal fee. The bidding starts at $599. Okay, who wants a nexus 4??!!

  • NYAvsFan

Well I’m sad to lose unlimited data on verizon, but my battery life (in spite of numerous tweaks/roms/kernels) on my GNex sucks so bad that I can’t even use 3G/4G without the damn thing being plugged in.

    • moelsen8

the usb port on my gnex stopped working in certain positions shortly before i jumped ship, just from being plugged in all the time. it’s so refreshing to be not be paranoid about my battery anymore!

      • NYAvsFan

I will take that to mean that you have better battery life with the N4 then?? I almost care more about that than unlimited data or 4G now. What’s the point of having the phone if you have be tethered to a charger all day?

        • moelsen8

yes, definitely better battery. i mean, it’s not like “WOW” battery life that can last a whole week or anything, but it’s noticeably better than the gnex on verizon.

          • NYAvsFan

Hey that’s good enough for me! Heck even having 3G on without the battery completely draining in 40 minutes would be an improvement.

          • moelsen8

it’s refreshing. i remember my gnex battery would drop like 10% just from light browsing/email reading on the 5 minute walk to my car every morning. it was ridiculous.

      • Pedro

Not only is it nice not to worry about getting through the day, but a wireless charger means you don’t need the USB port.

        Once you unlock, root, etc….
And probably pull off backups. 1.5GBs is a lot of space to waste on a nandroid.

        • moelsen8

dude, true that. wireless charging is so ridiculously convenient.. i never thought i’d take to it the way i do now, but i love it. the space is an issue here and there, but it’s a trade-off i’m willing to make right now.

    • Jim McClain

Put a trexcell 3800 battery on it

      • NYAvsFan

That massive ugly thing? No thanks. I like having my phone in an Otter Box and able to actually fit in a pocket. IMO You shouldn’t have to make the phone look absurd just to get decent battery life.

        • Jim McClain

well nothing looks worse than a clunky otter box case , hell that’s bigger than my trexcell ,ive held them together, and I can go over 30 hours without charging

        • Jim McClain

I think you made it look more then absurd when you put it in a otter box, might as well carry it around in a shoe box lol

  • Jim McClain

Anyone else not able to read droidlife comments on their gnex? its fine on tablet or computer, just says theres a problem loading disqus? .?

    • Mathew Call

      Same here.

    • LionStone

yea, it’s doing that on the stock browser on my DNA…it did load up on Chrome browser, but the stock browser is 10x smoother :/

  • tyguy829

Lol at the people that were impatient and bit on the best buy deal last night. Have fun with your contracts!

  • http://andymerskin.com/ Andy Merskin

    Hell. freezes. over.

  • Joe Isaacson

I got one!!! My Thunderbolt can suck it and so can Verizon!!

  • arturo_bandini

Picked up an 8GB N4 – probably going with the $70 unlimited plan on t-mobile prepaid having heard bad things about straight talk.

    • moelsen8

straight talk’s been great to me. you should try it out for a month at least. can’t beat the price and coverage with an at&t sim.

      • Danrarbc

And if you’re looking at T-Mo anyway you could order the T-Mobile Straight Talk SIM and cut it.

      • enigmaco

I hope they have changed I used their service in the past and had problems took forever just to get my number ported over. Are they still blocking websites?

        • moelsen8

not that i can tell.. everything’s been mostly great. couple hiccups here and there with data after waking the phone up, but i’m really satisfied overall for the price. i ported my number to google voice so don’t know about their porting process.

    • Mathew Call

Go with Solavei. Unlimited everything for $49/mo pre-paid, uses T-Mobile’s network primarily, AT&T for roaming.

    • jab416171

T-Mobile has a $30 prepaid plan, unlimited data (5 gigs at 4G speed), 100 minutes, unlimited text

  • Prox

    server is more stable.

  • Prox

just bought 2 16GB’s, one for me, one for the women.

    • Droidzilla

You really ought to get one for each woman. That way they can text each other.

      • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

        lmao

      • KnowYourEnemy462

So they can secretly conspire against him?

        • Droidzilla

Hmmm. Maybe it’s better that they take their phones like they take their men: singular and shared.

    • mustbepbs

      Rockin’ the polygamy thing, eh?

  • raela

mine still stays temp. out of stock?

    • buff?

      clear cache?

      • John

        …3 times

        • buff?

try a different browser, its still available..

          • John

? oh heh..nvm. i thought you were referring to something else.

          • buff?

:( sorry i missed it…im usually good with those

        • Hunter

“No Nexus for you!” (in your best soup nazi voice)

  • Teng Taing

Sold mine to my buddy. Unfortunately VZW has me by the balls with Unlimited data or i would drop them in a heartbeat.

    • Booyah

Is unlimited such a bad thing? ;)

      • http://twitter.com/Belatukadro Justtyn Hutcheson

It is when you have to pay for their regular service on top of it, and have no options for reducing the cost. Yes, I know I can move to another service, but Verizon’s network is the best.

        • Booyah

I hear you. If I didn’t use a ton of data, I’d probably make the switch. I use over 10GB a month streaming and tethering so it’s worth it for me, especially not being throttled. If I were only using 3-4GB, I’d be looking elsewhere for sure.

          • http://twitter.com/Belatukadro Justtyn Hutcheson

That’s my situation too. I could probably get by with 2GB and wifi usage, but my wife watches Netflix at work a ton, and they aren’t allowed to connect personal devices to the company wifi (really limited bandwidth), so unlimited high-seed is something she usues more than anything else.

          • Teng Taing

i have to tether my phone on a personal laptop at work due to policy and blocking of just about every website. I used 8-9GB’s within a matter of 5 hrs

  • http://www.facebook.com/erik.azpeitia.3 Erik Azpeitia

    OMG OMG OMG!! yes!

  • buff?

Does it make sense to order one now? Just before I/O, and possible announcement of the “X phone”

    • http://twitter.com/Belatukadro Justtyn Hutcheson

I don’t feel the X Phone being announced at I/O. Mid-Late summer, they may try to wade back into that fray.

    • Prox

I would maybe guess a fall release for next nexus phone.

      • http://twitter.com/Belatukadro Justtyn Hutcheson

The X Phone, as I’ve read it, is not a Nexus device. It is a collaboration between Motorola and Google to build a device that is an experiment of sorts into how hardware accepts and software interprets input from the user in a completely intuitive manner.

        • michael arazan

Plus it’ll run pure android and no skin, Just like my D1 did, just hope they don’t remove the sd card

    • angermeans

The X Phone is rumored to not be a Nexus device. If I had to guess I would say it would be carrier pimped and so it will loose any luster that the Nexus 4 has now. It will be the Galaxy nexus all over again (as looking at Motorola and Verizon’s love affair the last couple years) except you will have pre bundled bloat. Even with vanilla android that doesn’t sound like a phone I would want, but then again I can’t stand Mptorola and have been burned too many times. I would jump all over the Nexus 4. To me personally it is the only android device worth buying right now. That’s just me though and I’m tired of being a version or two behind even if I root my devices.

  • DC_Guy

I bought one mainly because I know I’ll want Key Lime Pie as soon as it is released, but I’m going to be REALLY pissed if they release a 32GB version soon!!!

  • http://twitter.com/WaltPartlo Walter Partlo

I am finally out of contract at VZW, but I have to wait for the wife, otherwise we will go over minutes from talking to each other since we would no longer be mobile to mobile.

    • Droidzilla

If you have a Verizon Unlimited plan, sell it. Get you both on Straight Talk and you’ll have unlimited minutes period; none of this “mobile to mobile” garbage.

      • Mathew Call

What do the Straight Talk plans look like? Any sort of throttling?

        • moelsen8

          “unlimited” everything for $45/month.

          it’s not disclosed but it’s generally agreed upon that you’re safe < 100mb/day and < 2gb/month.

          • Mathew Call

All at 4G speeds? Is it true they have a partnership with Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile?

          • Droidzilla

At 4G speeds, but only unlocked GSM. So only T-Mobile (up to HSPA+42) and AT&T (up to HSPA+21).

          • Mathew Call

Good info. I’m leaning towards Solavei cuz it’s also unlocked GSM, up to HSPA+42, no per-day limit for $49/mo. However speed drops to 2G after 4GB/month.

          • Droidzilla

If you don’t need minutes, T-Mobile has an HSPA+42 plan for $30/month with 100 minutes but unlimited text and “unlimited” internet (throttled after 5GB). I haven’t checked out Solavei yet, but some people seem to really like it. Best thing about an unlocked phone: don’t like your service? Switch up!

          • Mathew Call

That might work cuz you could always make more calls with GrooveIP (or SIP if you’re set up) although you have audio issues and battery life to think about. Solavei is the only one with a paid referral program so that’s probably why.

          • Droidzilla

Yeah, I sometimes feel like Solavei users are trying to sell Amway to me. I haven’t had much luck getting GrooVeIP to reliably work for me; it’ll be OK here and there, but I’ve never had close to cell quality on it (and I’ve had a damn sight worse with it, too).

          • Mathew Call

Well at least you don’t have to buy a whole bunch of product, just cell service. And if it’s competitive, why not? I got a friend and brother doing it so I think I’ll give it a go for a few months, see how it plays out. Regarding GrooVe IP, I got it to where I always hear them very clear but I always sound like crap to them. At least incoming calls never fail to ring, not like my SIP account.

          • http://twitter.com/Mad_Llama Jeremy Gill

Yes, but if you order a sim from them you only get to choose between AT&T or T-Mobile

          • Danrarbc

They work with all 4 big carriers. But no access to Sprint or Verizon’s 4G. No access to AT&T LTE either.

      • steveliv

i would switch to straight talk, but 100mb a day is unrealistic for me. I would hit that barrier daily before lunchtime.

        • Danrarbc

I don’t know if it’s only the T-Mobile ST SIM I’m using, but I have gone over 100MB in one day A LOT. No throttling yet.

          • Droidzilla

I’ve heard a lot of people go over 100MB a day. I know my wife does on her AT&T SIM without issue, but not that often.

  • http://twitter.com/mikedotdunham mike dunham

Got a confirmation email, says 1-2 weeks

    • snowblind64

I read on The Verge that they may start shipping sooner then the 1-2 week estimate. Hope it’s true.

  • Greg Morgan

Yes, got mine!! No more wondering if I should overpay for a craigslist N4.

  • DC_Guy

GOT ONE! FINALLY!!! I’m doing the happy dance :-)

  • Pandalero

    Ordered!

  • http://twitter.com/Kenny_Larson Kenny Larson

Just bought 2. One for the wife. One for me. My days with Verizon suddenly got a lot shorter.

    • Ishmogeekus

I am doing the same thing. Going to T-mobile, even though I have to pay an early termination fee to Verizon. I feel freeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

  • NYAvsFan

Just saw and just tried to get. Getting the never ending “your order is processing” nonsense. Will update if it actually goes through.

*Update: Have my confirmation/order # in Gmail. Sometimes good things do happen to bad people.

  • Droidzilla

    Boom.

  • http://twitter.com/ChrisDoerman Chris Doerman

Buying an N4 and going to Straight Talk was the best decision I ever made. Good riddance, Verizon! Also the Poetic Borderline bumper on Amazon is $10 with free shipping and is fantastic IMO. I can’t imagine what about the Google bumper could make it worth twice as much.

    • Droidzilla

I found the Poetic bumper works great as long as you don’t take it off and put it back on often. If you do, it very quickly falls apart. Lasted maybe 10x coming off and on for mine before it was utterly useless. My wife rarely takes hers off and it looks brand new.

  • snowblind64

Just ordered a few minutes ago. Can’t wait! :-)

  • JRomeo

    Finally, It’s back !

  • Harry

I bought all 7 that they had in stock, sold out again sorry =P

  • moelsen8

    go go go go go!

  • John Jacobs

Wouldn’t it be nice if it STAYED in Stock this time? Le sigh :-(

  • avinyc

    Hmm, no LTE? pass…

    • http://www.droid-life.com/ Tim-o-tato

What? Is this some type of shock to you or something? lol

      • avinyc

That’s my excuse for not buying one and I’m sticking to it damnit:)

        • http://twitter.com/ChrisDoerman Chris Doerman

You should really find a better excuse because LTE ain’t that great right now (but I’m sure it will be somewhere down the line). :)

          • avinyc

Well all kidding aside now, LTE is working great for me. But I guess that depends where you live and who your carrier is. No problems here in the northeast.

          • NexusPhan69

LTE has saved my job. Everything blocked on my computer. Only way to get through lunch hour and slow days is tethering to LTE. Can stream 1080p video with no problems.

          • Detonation

Better excuse? Limited storage capacity, non-removable battery, lack of accessories, extremely fragile body. For me, having an AOSP device isn’t worth those sacrifices. And my bill wouldn’t get much cheaper going prepaid since I’m on a large family plan anyways. But based on that I am probably a minority in this community.

    • moelsen8

you know, i don’t miss LTE in the least.

      • avinyc

I guess sometimes it’s better to have LTE’d and lost than never to have LTE’d at all…

      • http://twitter.com/ChrisDoerman Chris Doerman

Amen. LTE did nothing but suck my battery dry faster.

        • LionStone

You must’ve had an old phone?

          • moelsen8

            or a gnex…

    • Droidzilla

If you really think LTE (in its current state) is true 4G and HSPA+42 isn’t, you’ve fallen for some bad marketing hype.

      • avinyc

Hey whatever works for you, but I never said LTE is true 4G, but it’s faster than 3G. If that’s marketing hype, so be it.

        • Droidzilla

LTE is faster than 3G, but not faster than HSPA+42. Which is faster depends on coverage area and network congestion more than anything else.

          • avinyc

Buddy, it’s all relative. As long as things get faster, nobody cares which one is better in the moment. Soon we’ll get real 4G (which will be marketed as 5G – go figure). If you are on a network with HSPA, it’s serving your purpose.

          • Droidzilla

Aren’t you the guy who said, “No LTE? Pass.” I was just responding to you thinking LTE was somehow better. It is all relative; I’ve had Verizon LTE, AT&T HSPA+21, and T-Mobile HSPA+42 and I can definitively say there is zero difference in actual device performance. In fact, the only tangible differences come from network congestion and signal strength; not tech. So buddy, you can aim your remark squarely at your previous remark. Pal.

          • avinyc

Actually, it was a joke but you’re not the first person on the internet you have that happen. I’m guilty of that as well. It was a shot at the nexus line for skipping LTE this time around. I see how I implied LTE was better than HSPA with that quip and realize that offended some egos here. Not every comment online is an invitation to defend your beliefs, so really you should follow your own advice pal:)

          • Droidzilla

If it was a joke, it was poorly executed. I’m not defending a belief, just calling out false information. If you didn’t mean it, then I guess this was all superfluous. Of course, it’s two people arguing on the internet, so it’s all worthless in any case.

          • avinyc

Then once again, I apologize for my attempt at humor. No intention to offend you or anyone else here. I should have just stuck with tried and true apple rulez remark:)

          • ERIC REED

I find it funny that when apple released the 4S, not having LTE was a huge deal. Now there is some back stroking in the android community. I’m with you, this phone is dirt!!

    • JRomeo

When you get 21Mbps real world download speeds on the Nexus 4, there isn’t really a need for LTE.

  • Tony Byatt

    Just placed an order…

  • Sammyrocker5150

Purchased mine at 11:20! Got lucky this time!

    • Tony Byatt

      Me to…11:20:55 AM CST

  • http://www.droid-life.com/ Tim-o-tato

Hah to all the haters on Twitter….told you so! :P
