Droid Life Q&A Sessions: Volume 9

With CES behind us and MWC coming up, it is time for a DL Q&A Session. With these posts, it is your chance to ask the DL staffers anything and everything that is on your mind. Then on Friday, we will go through and answer our favorites in a separate post. It can be personal, Android-related, or even SF 49er’s related.

And yes, we will also take a handful of questions and answer them on air during this week’s Droid Life Show. If we get some really juicy ones, I will also field a couple during the Tato Show (Thurs. 7PM Pacific) as well. Ready? Drop in the comments and let us know what’s on your mind.

To see all of our previous Q&A’s, check them out here.

Can i have a phone? My phone was stolen 6 months ago and im still on contract with no insurance. Please 🙂

  • Cop3land

What would you say is the best Android out there? I would be curious to hear everyones opinion and why they like that phone the best.

  • Do you guys have any experience with extended batteries? What brands are best and who makes good cases for phones with extended battery covers on? I have an S3

  • Fattie McDoogles

What is the one thing you are hoping to see in Key Lime Pie?

  • Fattie McDoogles

If you could get anyone to make a guest appearance on the DL Show, who would you have?

  • Kevin Bojarski

Are the Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 the best tablets at their respective price points, and is now the time to buy one?

  • Knlegend1

Do you think Samasung is doing way too much with the “Galaxy” title? Galaxy S, Galaxy S2, Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note, Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy Tab 7, Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 – 10.0, and Galaxy Note 10.1. I’m sure I’m missing something but I personally feel like they are whoring the Galaxy lol.

  • ArrowCool

If you were a character from “The Big Lebowski”, who would you be, and why?

  • NJBoy07052

Do you guys really earn enough money running DL to make a decent living?

  • Mike McGinnis

What specs do you want/ hope to see in the motorola X phone?

  • Matt Judkins

I am on Verizon an have an upgrade available, The Note 2 is too big, I hate the physical home button of the GS3, I really like the DNA but should I wait for MWC and see what comes out of that before I upgrade or just get the DNA?

  • London Calling

After Siri arrived on the iPhone, I was expecting a move towards small phones with a voice based UI – i.e pocket phones for people who already have tablets. I was expecting the catalyst to be NFC payments. I all hasn’t happened. Are we now locked into a world of similar huge phones?

  • ChuckDz3

This might have already been asked, but what do you guys do for a living outside of droid-life?

    • Jroc869, Nexus-Life

Im pretty sure this is what Kellen and Tim do for a living not sure about Ron, Eric or Dave

  • Green

Okay, you mentioned the 49ers, so…Do you think their D is going to put pressure on Flacco? Can they get through that O-line? I live in MD, but I do not like the Ravens (I’m a Broncos fan). I grew up in the Bay Area. Go 49ers!

  • bananatroll

If the Google “X Phone” turns out to be an actual device do you guys think that Verizon will let it on their network? If so what do you think the conditions of such a partnership would be? I’m hoping one of them would NOT be to be made into a DROID device with all all the bloatware and carrier controls included.

Could this possibly end up being a nexus device?

  • Futbolrunner

    How did you all meet?

    • Jroc869, Nexus-Life

      Great question

  • Capt. Crunch

If you had to guess when will the Motorola X phone be released?

    • Raven

Current target for release is July 8 (definitely subject to change).

      • Capt. Crunch

That’s not too bad. My issue is that i don’t get my upgrade until November 5th so the phone will be almost 4 months old by the time i can get it but on the plus side i could probably get it for $99 or less. Maybe i might just wait for the note 3 haha.

  • Elpapichulo

Is there anyway to fully Unroot your Android phone, for instance I have a galaxy s3, and I have to send it back to Samsung but with the videos I’ve seen on the Internet it makes me believe my galaxy s3 is not fully Unroot

    • S2556

odin back to stock and use triangle away and you should be good to go

At what point do you think people will leave computers behind completely in favor of smartphones and tablets?

  • carlisimo

What do you prefer about manufacturer skins over stock Android, if anything?

  • What do you think is the real reason battery tech hasn’t had a significant improvement over the past couple years. I have seen tons of articles boasting better and longer charges, but nothing ever comes of it. I would like one of these big companies to get into the battery business and blow someone away. That could save a company like HTC or Motorola and take the reigns from Samsung.

  • Adam

I’m switching to Tmobile very soon. I live in Boston and they just lit up PCS HSPA+ here a few weeks ago. I haven’t had the chance to try it yet though. My question is this: disregarding all contract business, which phone would you buy for Tmobile usage? Keep in mind, I plan on rooting and loading my custom ROM of choice so MotoBlur/Sense/TouchWiz aren’t really as much of an issue as an active development community. So, phone has to have 1700/2100 AWS, what would you pick?

    • tyguy829

      nexus 4!

    • MichaelFranz

Agreed, go with an N4, its the to-go to phone for rooting/rom, etc. Either that or wait for a GS4.

Personally i have a sour spot for tmobile, but that my own reasons.

      • Adam

The coverage is really good up here and having HSPA+ on PCS will be nice. Hopefully they’ll be lighting up LTE soon.

The N4 is fairly tough to get a hold of for a reasonable markup. I also wasn’t super impressed with the battery life I saw in reviews.

  • MichaelFranz

Do you think Blackberry 10 will steal any market share away from Android and iOS, or do you think that they are really just gambling all-in on something that isn’t within their grasps anymore?

What is the first thing you look at in a phone? Form factor, Software (meaning ability to be upgraded or life expectancy), features (both hardware & software), etc

  • Axel Foley

    1. What is the difference between the next Nexus and the “X-Phone”?

    2. How “Super” is Ravens/49ers?

    • Raven

I am not too into football, but for some reason, I want the Ravens to win.

      • Jonathan Williams

Since the Niners beat the Packers, I want the Ravens to win too.

  • Jroc869, Nexus-Life

Have you ever thought about having a guest spot on the DL show. Someone like Chris Chavez or from another blog. It would just be interesting to see some contrasting opinions among the android community.

    • Tim242

Chris Chavez? That’s the best you can come up with? Phandroid has absolutely no original content.

      • Jroc869, Nexus-Life

Well it was an example so feel free to suggest some people.

    • JetBlue

Having Marques Brownlee on the show would be pretty cool since Tim and him met at CES and he follows droid-life on here and posts on articles at times.

      • Jroc869, Nexus-Life

Yeah I really like MKBHD and his youtube videos. I saw that he posted on here a few days ago which to me is always cool to see.

    • michael arazan

Can you Interview people at MWC, and ask about the future of mobile, and make sure you get Motorola’s answer if they show up. Also can we get recorded videos of the live conferences for those of us who can’t log on to watch it live and put it on your YT page

  • Can you make a video for CM on the Nexus Q?

    • 4n1m4L

There are a couple of issues still. The only audio that now works is HDMI. Other than that its cm10. And its not a Q anymore. No longer functions like one. A sphere shaped android desktop.

  • Austin

What do you know about the nexus 4 returning, if it’s returning?

    • Austin

Also, what do you think the screen size cut off point on smart phones will be? Are we really gonna get to the point of 6 inch screen phones?

  • Muddy B00ts

if FACKWORS were a real word, what would its definition be?

    • nightscout13

I think it would mean war of words.

    • MichaelFranz

you know if a word is published 3 times it technically can be defined. Don’t know the validity of that but a co-worked once said it. someone needs to contact Websters..

    • Tim242

Real or not, it can be defined as stupid.
