Watch Pebble’s E-paper Watch CES Press Event Live [CES 2013]

pebble ces

While Samsung is on the main stage this morning doing its keynote thing, another company is doing a press event that might actually be worth a look. Remember Pebble, the e-paper smartwatch company that took Kickstarter by storm earlier this year, amassing a whopping $10 million in funding? Their CEO plans to show off the watch and all of its features before finishing things off with a Q&A session.

You can watch the event live at 9:00AM Pacific through the embed we have included below. Since the watch is still months from shipping, this should tide you over until that happens.

  • If this comes in as something that can be rewatched, I love to see it. I was in a meeting an missed this one.

  • aholland1

I’d rather it be late to market and complete than half-baked and pay to be a beta user essentially as is the case with anything worth having. As a watch lover, this is really cool; still won’t replace my Citizen when I’m feeling stylish, but potentially very useful!

  • This guy is a killer presenter. =P

  • EvanTheGamer

    ALERT, technical difficulties!

  • S.Ober

Is this guy a smurf, why is he blue?

    • EvanTheGamer

The Mayans have said that the Smurfs have “watched” us for Centuries, but now it looks like they finally wanted to make their presence known to the world. The time is now.

    • Hunter

They said at the beginning that there were technical difficulties and the colors were for some reason inverted.

      • EvanTheGamer

Way to burst the Smurfs’ bubble!

  • EvanTheGamer

Pepple is something I really wanted to get involved with, but sadly I kept procrastinating and then this most ambitious project ended. Blah!

    • Laki S.

Don’t feel too bad, Evan. I backed it and have been trying to temper my frustration with their delays. I’m hoping when I eventually get it I’ll like it.

      • EvanTheGamer

Yeah, that’s always the thing about backing Kickstarter projects. You just don’t know if what you backed will really live up to your expectations. But yeah, hopefully Pepple will be something truly unique.

        • Laki S.

Very true. I backed the Cookoo project as well, was told it would be Android capable, then told after the project closed it wasn’t. Got it in the mail earlier this month and it’s unusable since I don’t (and won’t) have iOS.

          • EvanTheGamer

That sucks! Some project creators just cannot be trusted. Or sometimes there are last minute changes, but still, a promise is a promise and when people don’t keep their promises, it blows. I’ve backed multiple projects and have yet to receive any of my Rewards, whether it be digital or physical goods.

One of the worst things about backing projects is sometimes the creators get backed up with various things and then can’t deliver on their promised release date. I backed this one web series project, the release date was Sept. 2012, and now it’s months after and still looks like it may be a few more months before I receive my reward. But that is the life of a Kickstarter backer I suppose.

      • anezarati

just like any investment, you win some and lose some. at least this one is getting released and seems like a high quality product.

  • Joe Paul

Am i only one that is watching smurfs talk about watches?

    • EvanTheGamer

lol…just noticed that. hahah – They are magical watches and allows the wearer the ability to talk like Smurfs.

    • DMBatCOFC

Nope. The audience is Smurf-like as well.

      • michael arazan

Where’s Gargamel when you need him?

    • Usty

He said at the beginning their camera switched to a negative mode.

  • Usty

    January 23rd woohoo!

  • mustbepbs

    Why is he blue?

    • Must be nervous 😛

    • he’s sad…..

    • Laki S.

Hopefully because he’s empathizing with those of us who’ve been holding our breath since last September.

  • gbenj

I think theyre going to announce a ship date…theyre already in manufacturing so they shouldn’t be too far from ready to ship.

Plus they’ve been billing this press conference as a major announcement so that would line up to.

Of course shipment would be for the people who backed it and are waiting…it probably is months away for people who are preordering now or didn’t get into the kickstarter backing.

  • Buy This

I want, from either some Android OEM or 3rd party company, an Ipod Shuffle-esque device. The purpose of this device will be to provide a small and affordable media player that connects to your Google music library.

I would love this for running and working out especially. I would finally be able to get rid of Itunes and my old wheel Ipod and Shuffle. I’m not gonna carry my Gnex in my pocket. What they need is something that fits around the arm or wrist, like Nike’s Fuelband or is portable like a shuffle. We know a touch screen is functional at that size.

If this watch. or any watch, were able to accomplish those tasks and met that criteria, I would buy immediately.

    • The Google Music thing is difficult because there’s no real API for it.

I have thought before ‘hey, maybe I could design and make an iPod type device that connects to Google Music, then Kickstart it!’, but the API is one problem. Another issue would be needing cellular data to play music, requiring the user to need a SIM card of some kind in it. It’d also decrease the battery life and make it bigger.

It’s a difficult one, for sure.

  • normmcgarry

I remember when I kickstarted this thing and they said they’d ship in September. My wrist is still empty…

    • Paul

I wanted to so badly back this project but I didn’t want to wait until September to get it. I’m glad I didn’t back it now because it would be killing me having to wait even longer. But as of now, I do plan to buy them once they go retail! They look awesome so far!

  • Andrew

It’s going to be a year late………… very disappointing.

  • I thought they were going to start shipping soon. Hm.

  • Droidzilla

Spoiler: it’s going to be a watch. I just saved 15 minutes of your life.

    • EvanTheGamer

      Thank you Mr. Obvious.

      • Droidzilla

Just trying to do my part.

        • EvanTheGamer

          Fair enough. Haha

Plus I was just kidding around.
