Live From Verizon Keynote [CES 2013]

verizon ces keynote

It’s time for Verizon’s keynote here at the 2013 CES. Big Red’s CEO, Lowell McAdam is in the house and we are looking very forward to him talking up his company’s growth over the past year and everything they are looking forward to in 2013.

We are live blogging the keynote and will be adding in our color commentary along the way. Let’s have some fun!

  • Rich

no one gives two craps, and the seating shows this lol forget you VZW

  • Jonathon
    • Droidzilla

Wow; starting bid is the same as a brand new, 16GB Nexus 4. I’m sure people will jump right on that.

  • Can’t wait to see what gets Verizon “nascar” branding next!

  • MooleyBooleyTroll

I left Verizon and am saving SOOOOOOO much $$$$$$$$$ 🙂

  • dsass600

Has anyone here actually left Verizon yet? I went to Straight Talk and now I just sit back and laugh at all the bitching about logos and Verizon’s thick finger getting shoved up your asses 🙂

    • hows the connection and speed?

      • dsass600

HSPA+ is quite fast. If T-Mobile is in your area and they offer 42 MBPS HSPA+ then the speeds will be close to LTE.

      • VZWIndirect

Sporting a new Nexus 4 on Solavei. Signed up 12 people in my first 60 days, got $650 to buy a phone, pay my Verizon ETF’s on all but 1 grandfathered line, which I now have SIM swapped into a 4g MiFi, giving me Unlimited LTE home internet. I have steady 20+ MBPS HSPA+ in town, and perfect voice coverage even in the sticks. I run my phone off the MiFi at home, so the crappy data here makes no difference. I have no bill, and I get $30 bucks a month on a debit card, which covers 1/2 of the remaining line I use for internet. I don’t even care to try and “sell” the service anymore…I got what I wanted..,a quality phone paid for, my ETF’s covered, and no phone bill. Big Red can kiss my little Purple daisy ass.

  • TheWenger

Innovating new ways to bone customers without their knowing it.

  • MJZ

I turned off a rerun of Law & Order: SVU for that?

    • sk3litor

I can’t believe stabler left without telling Olivia first. That’s low

  • Thomas

That keynote was a joke !! Basically a live commercial for the NFL & Ford. Great job Verizon.

    • PhoenixPath

      Too right…

I was watching the live stream, until they started in on the NFL stuff:

  • EvanTheGamer

Damnit, I missed this exciting press event! Why Verizon WHY?!

    Did I miss anything? lol

    • Diablo81588

Be glad you didn’t see it.

      • EvanTheGamer

Naw, I was just joshin’. lol. There will not be a press event that was as exciting nor mind-blowing non-boring as NVIDIA’s Presser on Sunday night.

  • nightscout13

Has anyone cut themselves yet to stay away during this keynote? Extremely boring….

    • EvanTheGamer

I missed it, and I am not happy about it either. /s

    • Justin Bieber fans are. To soon?

      • jzwerlz43

thats the fans fault, its not cool when people hurt themelves for any reason but that was their choice to do so, so personally i dont feel bad for them at all

  • 3of5

Verizon is for A) Stupid people that like to waste money or B) Someone that lives in the woods and can only get Verizon

    • Sparxx2k7

or C) for those who want the best 4G LTE coverage and speeds. You get what you pay for – and I’m paying to retain awesomeness.

      • Droidzilla

There are areas in my city where T-Mobile HSPA+42 is faster than Verizon LTE, and vice versa. I’m not talking low speeds, either. There are areas where Verizon is 20Mbps+ download and T-Mobile 5Mbps, and areas where T-Mo is 20Mbps+ and Verizon 5Mbps. LTE-A will trump HSPA+42, but regular LTE is on par given similar signal strength and network congestion.

        • Sparxx2k7

I agree – I’m just replying to the utter wave of ignorance people tend to lean on when they default bad-mouth VZW. I know they are no saint, and it can get pricey, but to maintain the network and have little to no major issues is quite a feat being the company that they are.

          • Pretty much, this. Verizon is extremely proud of their wireless network, as they should be. I’m rather appalled by their current business tactics (Share Everything needs to die an especially painful death), but their technology on the ground is top-notch.

  • S9779

I can save some time. Good evening we at verizon will be committed to taking more of your money in 2013 thank you for spending.

    • michael arazan

When we bend you over a barrel and give it to you, we will also charge you rent on the barrel too

      • And we will also put a huge logo on the barrel as well.

  • If he mentions shared plans being great even once, I’m gonna be pissed.

  • Droidzilla

“Thanks for joining us; we’re bending our customers over some exciting new barrels!”

    • +1000 Internet to you good sir!

    • nightscout13

At least most Verizon customers are happy about being bent over that barrel.

      • are we?

        • iwindhard

Ya, you still pay em each month don’t you?

          • r0lct

I pay my electricity bill, not happy about it, but it’s necessary.

          • Stephen

I just gave VZW the boot. Got my Nexus 4 and said see ya! I’m in the D.C. area, and T-mobile here is fast (and cheap)! I’m using pre-paid. If I go out of the area, I can just switch to my AT&T compatible sim.

          • Exactly. There is no viable option for me at the moment. If I had a Nexus 4 in my hands ID already be gone. Also those locked into a contract can’t leave, so non payment is not really an option.

    • I think Lowell McAdam said Bring out the Gimp before he stepped on stage.

  • nightscout13

Looking forward to some ISIS announcements. I would have preferred Google Wallet, but they obviously dropped the ball.

    • DC_Guy

Yeah they need to give us one or the other. I’m tired of my friends on Sprint bragging about how great Google Wallet is.

      • tomn1ce

Google wallet is great and I’m on vzw with a G-Nexus…

        • Tim Buchanan

          • aQuickBit

You need to side-load the apk file to an SD card and then install it…also need to find a compatible version of wallet. Usually need to be rooted as well.

  • ScottyByrd

Maybe they will say sorry for gimping our devices and their exuberant prices lol.
