Sony Xperia “Yuga” and “Odin” Press Shots Appear, Likely Debuting at CES

sony-xperia-zl sony-xperia-z

CES is less than a week away, so as is customary during the days leading up, we are starting to see products appear well before companies have a chance to announce them. The first two are from Sony, a couple of smartphones that may headline the show, unless LG steps up to answer to a massive New Year’s Eve rumor

Pictured above, we have the Sony Xperia “Yuga” and “Odin.” (Codenames of course.) Each device is said to sport a 5″ 1080p display, quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, 2GB RAM, and 13MP rear camera. Both look very similar, however, one may come packed in a slightly smaller frame, even though it has the same 5″ display.

I’ve never been the biggest fan of Sony’s phone designs, but these aren’t bad. They don’t look all that refreshing as rectangular black slabs, yet the specs and Sony’s openness with Android could make them somewhat more appealing.

We’ll be at CES starting Sunday, so if these phones are there, we’ll be on them.

    These phones are gorgeous

  • bananatroll

I love how as android grows older and wiser, OEM UI skins continue to grow large around the waste faster than Michael Moore at a donut convention… This looks almost as bad as Samsung’s Loony Toons themed Galaxy line!

  • Trevor

I’d take the smaller version if it came to Verizon (depending on battery life and internal storage/SD card slot, of course). LOVE that there’s a dedicated camera key on that one.

Waiting on X Phone by Motorola.and Google.

    • bananatroll

I’ve got a feeling if you’re on Verizon, the wait will not ever end. If big red isnt allowed to put their junk on Google’s phones, they have no desire to sell them at all. Galaxy Nexus is a perfect example.

  • paul_cus

    Rooting for Sony in 2013.

  • Jeremy Martin

I hope there is a Verizon version.

    • paul_cus

Wouldn’t hold my breath on that.

  • shecalledmejay

Is it easy to Root and Unlock the bootloader on Xperia Phones?

  • NexusMan

    Thy look good to me.

  • possomcrast1

    I like that notification light.

  • chaoslimits

    Oh yeah? Keep it Sony.

  • ryanwv24

If that is a camera in the bottom right to me that would make me think there is a slide out keyboard.

Why Sony, why, stop doing this to yourself. just stop it !!!

    • kixofmyg0t

Why what? Releasing new phones? Yes I totally agree. We should have Samsung and nothing else.

      /s

  • Radgatt

Nice and all but its not like they will be coming to Verizon

  • Destroythanet

Is it crazy that, after owning the GN2, I can’t see myself going back down to a “tiny” 5″ screen?

    • Dave

      Ditto.

  • lamz

You can always 180 degrees the phone for the front facing camera.
the left one is with a camera button I think.

  • PSDonym

Which one do you think will be converted to become the next nexus? An O2 ‘guru’ mentioned the Sony Nexus would be announced mid/end January.

  • Butters619

Should have just been one phone, not two.

    • Austin00

      CDMA and GSM models

      • Butters619

Still should be the same phone. These clearly have different sizes and features. Samsung and Apple have both demonstrated (with phenomenal success) that one phone for all carriers is the way to go.

Is that a lower-right corner front-facing camera in the one on the left? If so, that is a horrible horrible placement idea.

    • http://twitter.com/seanyesmunt cheeselamabad

That’s what it looks like. I have no idea what they were thinking.

    • Butters619

Your thumb would be right over the camera if you tried to press an on screen shutter button.

Edit: nvm clearly has a dedicated camera button.

    • thedonxr

You could just hold the phone upside down since the onscreen buttons would just move for you anyway…

  • Al

Smaller one seems like it doesn’t have a front facing camera probably a mid-level phone.

    • PSDonym

I think the front facing camera of the smaller one is in the bottom right hand corner. Weird place to put it if holding portrait.

      • Al

        Oh wow talk about awkward

First: I apologize for being off-topic, but I can’t figure out where else to ask this. If someone could provide me a quick response, I’ll be on my way:

Didn’t there used to be a forum of some kind here? Or a way of contacting one of the DL4 (Kellen, Tim, Eric, Ron) with questions? I needed some advice about tablets, but I can’t seem to find a forum to converse with users anywhere here :-/

There’s the Q&A sessions occasionally. Was that what you were thinking of?

    • Jroc869, Cool story bro

Phandroid has a forum I believe. Not trying to take any attention away from DL the best Android blog on the planet, but there is a forum over there.
