Thursday Poll: What Version of Android is Your Phone Running?

android text

Lots of folks are starting to update to Ice Cream Sandwich and Jelly Bean, so we think it’s a good time to find out what version of Android you are all currently running. If you want to know how to check your version of Android, open up your Settings menu. Go to “About Phone” and then check your “Android version.”

According to Google’s latest distribution numbers, Gingerbread is on a whopping 50%+ of Android devices, so let’s see how their numbers stack up against ours.

I was expecting Gingerbread to win. But it seems like those people were running custom ROMs, and either upgraded a phone(since this site is mostly made up of people who want to get the newest android)Anyways I have a DNA comming from a TBolt..

  • 31 people are still running Eclair? Wow!

  • Stupid HTC and Verizon refuse to tell us if the HTC rezound is getting JB

“but after two years in such a quickly growing environment, what do you expect”

    Thanks for making my point!!

Oh, your point was simply that phone hardware is growing at an incredible rate? I thought you were going on about software updates. Very well then. No one can argue that hardware isn’t improving at an astounding rate. Luckily, that’s something we can all benefit from.

I’m glad we can see eye to eye on this software update thing.

I need two votes. I have a Gnex on cm10.1 4.2.1 and a RAZR HD on 4.1.1. I also have an old fascinate that I put 4.1 on for fun.

  • capecodcarl

Oh come on, people are running Jelly Bean 5 to 1 over Ice Cream Sandwich? I find that incredibly hard to believe. Just back in October the distribution chart showed Gingerbread on 55% of the devices. People would be lucky to get an upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich on those devices in the past 2 months, much less Jelly Bean.

    • Earl Echols

You underestimate the Root/Rom community on this site.

    • Tim242

      You poor thing.

      • bleeew

I feel bad. Your brainwashed. GL getting updates on time, thats IF you get an update.

        • Tim242

I think you meant “you’re.” Even if I never got another update, I’d still have more functionality than an iDevice aka mE2 device. I’m hardly brainwashed. I bought the iPhone 5 (iPhone 6) on launch day. I kept it for 5 days, trying to like it. It was boring and could not do half of what I needed it to.

  • cooksta32676

Unfortunately 4 kids, 48 hour work weeks, and helping run a side business has put an end to ROM days. Although my Note2 with the Verizon button is plenty fast and smokes my old Razr MaXX battery out of the box . Anyway 4.1.

  • chazzdjr

Im still rockin Froyo! Woot! Woot! …That is, until I’m actually able to buy a Nexus 4.

  • mikeszekely

While I have 4.2 on my Nexus 7, I guess my primary device is a Verizon Galaxy Nexus, which will probably be stuck on 4.1 even after I replace it.

  • Sobr0801

My phone is actually on Portico, that is the latest version on WP8. HA.

  • Toro running CM10 stable… could be on 10.1 if I *really* wanted but I have this rule about running non-stable (which is not the same as unstable) CM builds as my daily driver on my phone. 🙂

  • sralj

Couldn’t vote, the results page comes up instead of the vote.

Photon 4G running 2.3.5 forever because Motorola perma-locked our boot loader THEN canceled ICS…My Nexus 10 is 4.2.1 though. 🙂

    • Joey Funk

Yeah I got one on my upgrade before sprint got the gnex. Got the gnex as soon as I saw one on Craigslist, and I couldn’t be happier. And the screen isn’t so blindingly bright at night.

  • edwards311

    SGS3….Beans build 4.1.1
    Nexus 10….CGomez AOSP 4.2.1

  • Joe

I’m stuck on Gingerbread because HTC sucks and refuses to push it to the Thunderbolt. Doesn’t matter too much, I’m due for a new phone, and will get something better.

    • Sobr0801

      What are you getting?

    • bleeew

I had the Thunderbolt, worst phone ever. Slow, and battery sucks.
