Now if they could do this for websites with all the ads and pop up ads that you have to close to read the articles too on so many sites. I click on ads on cites on my cell phone all the time trying to close out ads to read an article.

This is great for developers like me that don’t try to game the placement of ads. This means Google will trust my click-throughs and pay me more consistently! Great news!

I’m a developer and I take issue with the writer implying that ads loading after content are designed to trick people. Ads legitimately tend to take a moment longer to load than the app itself, so it’s nothing we’re doing to “trick” people.. it’s just how it is. It would be terrible UX to delay the app loading just to make sure an ad loads before the content.

I don’t know how much money I make from accidental clicks(doubt it’s much), but I’m willing to bet that whatever I lose in clickthrough numbers I will make up in rising CPCs. Better quality clicks are simply worth more money.

As both a developer of Android and a user of Android, I am happy with this on all fronts.

Good way to tighten up the metrics. It’s infuriating at times, especially with say, a music app when you’re driving (that already pushes TV type commercials over your probably not unlimited data bandwidth) and a major distraction when simply trying to skip a song.

This is a good-hearted move on Google. They could certainly be profiting from these accidental clicks, but are choosing not to. By the way, I recently learned that Google doesn’t make advertisers pay for ads you skip on YouTube either.
