WeatherBug Free and Elite Updated With Refreshed UI, Looks Mighty Fine

For all you weather fiends and storm trackers out there, WeatherBug free and Elite got an update today, bringing a few bug fixes and a “refreshed” user interface. Call me crazy, but I’ve never had use for a full blown weather app. But then again, I am a cave troll and we don’t get out much. If you picked up Elite when it was on sale a few months back or you’re ready to give it a try, go grab it!

Play Link: Free | Elite ($1.99)

Cheers JBartCAPS!

How do I get it to be black? Mine is still blue after the upgrade

  • paulmike3

For those that got Elite as the FAOTD, Amazon appstore hasn’t updated yet. That’s a pity.

  • Rich H.

Even if it looks good, WeatherBug is inaccurate, at least in SoCal. AccuWeather is much more accurate.

  • justjmatt

Not Holo… Le sigh (at least the forecasting isn’t too bad).

  • As much as I am annoyed by the style refresh, I’ll keep using it as it has the best radar integration of any weather app I have seen (suggestions welcome on the radar front though).

  • Raven

When you live in ND, a good Weather Radar Map app is really nice to have, and this is one of my favorites.

I absolutely hated their Windows desktop program though and that made it really hard for me to even download it to my tablet for the first time.

Same UI different skin. Seems like they were trying to pull a quick one on us.

I wish there was a Holo weather app that had as great of a weather radar as Weatherbug. I use it when boating all the time and I cannot find another holo themed weather app that will do the map as well 🙁

  • joejoe5709

I use Weatherbug Elite relatively often mostly for the radar, but not much else. Cheers to updated UI. Sure it’s not the prettiest (Holo theme would have been nice…) but it’s lots better than the old UI. Yeesh.

Updating an app is all fine and good, provided the app actually works. I find far more frequent crashes under the updated version. When it runs without crashing, it looks good … errr, well. it looks better than before; but still a lot of room for improvement in the UI.

  • QQpayne

I love the functionality of Weatherbug, but they have neede a UI overhall for a while, hope they keep it up.

  • vonny571

Is anyone else amused by the gazillion notifications in the screenshots?

    • PyroHoltz

Opened the comments only to mention this and I’m glad I wasn’t the only one.

  • just bookmark weatherunderground on your homepage.

  • Prime7

I just use the AOKP weather thing on my lock screen now. I still have Weatherbug Elite for a pinch, but I don’t use it because it’s ugly.

  • Ayyy

Haven’t received the update via Amazon app store yet….why can’t that app store be integrated with Google Play! -_-

Useful app for me though, the radar map w/ live rain clouds is worth it by itself. The elite version is one of the free apps Amazon gives you when you buy a phone from em.

  • Wait. Is this an article that ISN’T crying about something Verizon did???

  • AranelAlasse

I LOVE using weather bug elite’s radar live background. So handy in the spring when severe storms are coming. especially since I don’t really watch tv much, so I only get my news/weather from my phone.

  • Hunter

Is this still crapware like it was on the PC?

    • AranelAlasse

I remember that the PC weatherbug was sketchy. but I’ve never noticed anything fishy about the android app.

    • Anon

As someone who actually paid for the Elite version (as the free is ad-sponsored), no, it’s actually a really decent app.

I agree, on the PC it’s not something I’d ever want. On Android though, it’s quite well thought out. After the Weather Channel’s app went from good to awful, I got this instead.

  • bakdroid

They need to update the tablet version of Weather Bug. It hasn’t been updated since August of last year and JellyBean does not agree with it.

  • Cuz97

I wonder if you can see my house from there. HAWAII IN DA HOUSE!!!!!

    • ToddAwesome

      Jealous, party of me.

  • wow thats an improvement, thanks

  • I bought Weatherbug Elite years ago when it was brand new. I still love it for its notification and map. Google Now is annoying and I have it disabled.

    • MooleyBooleyTroll

But.. But.. But.. Google created Google Now therefore it must be superior!!

      • I can only assume that’s where my downvotes came from. I played with it on both my Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 4 for quite awhile, and frankly it did nothing but give me useless notifications I didn’t need and drain my battery.

        • You can tweak Google Now to only give you the notifications you want. Personally I think Google Now would be most useful for someone who travels a lot and has a busy life style. But for your average person who knows their way around and always makes the same commute every day, it’s rather useless.

      • fixxmyhead

yea but sometimes it gets annoying and i like WB cuz it has that doppler radar. i need the visual live green cells thingy. google now just gives u a card saying if its gonna rain or not. i NEED to know where the clouds are moving to see if there is rain coming my way

  • I’m OK with the weather that Google Now gives me. No need to install another app to do the same thing

  • Just because it looks better doens’t mean it looks good. It still looks like garbage.

  • ‘Bout time.

  • RedPandaAlex

Nobody should be updating their UI without implementing design guidelines (at least an action bar). Does anyone know of a Holy weather app that contains a weather map?

  • Zachary

If you’re releasing a new UI for your Android app in 2012 and it’s not Holo-styled, you’re doing it very wrong. WeatherBug, you’re doing it very wrong.

    • AranelAlasse

I’m just glad that the background color for the notification is finally black, like the rest of my notifications. (instead of the sore-thumb-gray that it used to be)

      • joejoe5709

Nice. I’ve had WB Elite’s notification disabled because it looked terrible. Now it’s not so bad. 🙂

        • michael arazan

Works great, have had it for 2 years, even tells you how close lightning strikes from your position with GPS, better than your local news weather reports.

    • THIS! Seriously! The app still runs in compatibility mode. There isn’t an ounce of holo in this!

    • joejoe5709

Well it looks like it’s more or less a slightly different skin based off the recent iOS update. Anything based off of iOS has a nearly zero chance of being Holo themed. But yes, very frustrating.

    • I agree, but WeatherBug is still the only app that gives me easy access to hourly windchill forecasts, which are crucial for life up here in the deep Midwest.
