yes i agree, we must seem clueless , but in our defence since it was 2 years ago that i had my last upgrade all the phone / network providors have to offer us now are these bloody smart phones ,with yes ,another 2 year contract . Do i know how to work one ,or what the benefits are ? like hell i do ! all i wanted was my upgrade , a normal phone , you no the kind, with a key pad , just to call , text and have a camera ,but alas ,they are no longer on offer to customers ,i ended up with the samsung galaxy s3 LTE ! the bloody thing scares the hell out of me,so i did some research and found out its an expensive piece of equiptment , so i ve decided to sell the damn thing and buy one that ill actually be able to use , oh and yeah pay next months mortgage with the money ill have left over ,lol

Not sure if this was sarcasm or support….but, looks like they are finally getting with the program guy. Even if it’s weeks to almost 2 months late, I’ll take it. Wouldn’t think my “lil rant” had anything to do with it but I think sometimes a little praise along with negativity in the same conversation goes a long way. IJS………….. And being that they had absolutely nothing to do with a device they sell. just ask him to spin his chair around and talk to the guy on the other side of the room…..that’s where technical support sits. The End, now let’s all Jellybean!!!!!

We can only hope. It amazes me how many people don’t really understand the technology they have in their phone. If only they knew how to search Google for answers.

This could be solved by having more chains like BestBuy and Staples carry unlocked phones. If you buy one through them (usually the same price or cheaper then through the manufacturer, if laptop/desktop sales tell us much), then if you have a problem just go to BestBuy and exchange it. Cuts out the carrier without sacrificing ease of tech support.

No, it’s largely because if your phone goes bonkers for a legitimate warranty issue people don’t want to wait several weeks and ship their phone off to be repaired by the manufacturer either under warranty or not. They prefer to just pop into the Verizon store and walk out with their problem solved or a replacement phone in hand. This is largely the reason iPhones are so popular though too. I can just walk into the local Apple store with an iPhone and get it replaced there without having to ship it off to California, or worse, China.

Fully agreed. Its a paradigm shift that needs to happen with consumers. People need to start thinking of wireless providers in the same way they think of ISPs, electric companies, and the like. I don’t call Mediacom for computer problems. I don’t call MidAmerican Energy for problems with my stove. I shouldn’t be calling my wireless provider about my phone. Someday………

That’s got me burning a little bit too…. The Galaxy Note 2 crap was just that…. Crap…. I’m trying to figure out why they were in dead last in releasing the device, then not only have to cover the back with their branding, but that stupid home button branding too…. I was in the market for the Note 2, for various reasons but had to settle for the GS3… And I don’t like “just settling”. Lol… I agree, it’s pretty sad when the lower carriers have gotten their devices updated while Verizon just sits still, in the wind… Granted, I partly understand that because of their higher “standards” they want to ensure the best OS, or whatever blah blah blah, but come on now…. Serious? This is a little much…. Samsung/Verizon have got to work out a better deal… Oh and don’t get me started on the blocking of Google Wallet on Verizon, so they can form their own monopoly with ISIS Mobile Payments… I’ll save that for a different time and place…

I was at BestBuy yesterday and I stood at the mobile counter for a good 10 minutes in awe of how clueless the customers were. They had absolutely no idea what kind of phone they were buying, no idea what service provider they were getting, no idea what type of plan and contract they were getting into…. I was shocked. I shouldn’t have been. But it was the first time in a while I had really payed attention to other people going through a contract process. Signing yourself into a 2 year contract where you’re likely spending $100 or more a month is a fairly significant decision. How can people go into these things so blindly. They don’t even know what to use the smartphone for or what it does.
Well I just successfully re-angrified myself about the subject. Time for some coffee.

What we really need is for Google to not just make idle threats by making carriers think they will build out their own LTE ONLY network with Dish Network but to actually DO IT. Imagine a true nexus device and any other Android device running on Google/Dish network LTE spectrum with VoLTE, agressive data speeds, etc and no carrier bloat. I would be on that.
