I don’t like Swype (I tried it for several months and switched to Swiftkey because it works for my style better), so I hope this is an option I can turn off when it comes out of beta.

SwiftKey traditionally just updates the app for free and the fact that the email says “Swiftkey with Swiftkey Flow” makes me think it will be an added feature, but we’ll just have to wait and see what happens…

Having recently switched from Swype to Android 4.2 Keyboard, I can say right now that the latter is missing a few key features that I hope SwiftKey Flow can include:

1. On Swype, drawing a loop on a letter gives you a double letter; with Android 4.2 Keyboard, you have to just hope the prediction algorithm gets the word you want (it usually does, but it’s still more hassle than necessary).

2. On Swype, if you draw straight up through the keyboard, it will capitalize the letter you were on; this feature is completely missing on 4.2.
3. On Swype, you can add a space by drawing from a punctuation to the space bar; this is missing on 4.2.

It would also be nice to have a dedicated key for comma, which is a very common punctuation. On 4.2, you can get it by long-pressing the period key, but that’s an extra step.

That said, I still prefer the 4.2 keyboard over Swype for its general smoothness and better predictions. It’s also way the hell better for regular, touch typing, where Swype is almost unusable.

I know this is silly, but: the colors of the word “flow” are so pretty! (p.s. I’m a girl.) If the finger trace comes in the multi-color like that, then I’ll love it so much more than swype and the android 4.2 keyboards, just because of that. lol

I was a longtime Swype user before the latest version of Android. I was also looking forward to the new SwiftKey before the release for 4.2. I’m very happy with the new, native gesture-based keyboard and predictive text. The native option is always better than having a third-party add-on, so I I’ll give SwiftKey Flow a shot, but doubt I’ll keep it.

I agree. I rarely have to enter more than 4 letters per word. I used to not like swipe keyboards but was very impressed with aosp’s keyboard. But you never know, I’ll have to give it a try and see.

I use the swipe way of typing on the 4.2.1 Nexus 10 keyboard and it is amazing. Much better than the Swype that I have on my Droid 3.

Nice video. Could of done without the Dubstep as background music though.
