Tuesday Poll: By the End of 2012, Which Phone Will You Own?

HTC DROID DNA

Over the last several of months, we have seen more high-end phones announced than in any time period I can recall over the past couple of years. Samsung started things off by releasing the Galaxy S3 and will follow that up with the Galaxy Note 2. Motorola dropped the RAZR M and RAZR HD on us. LG and Google gave us the Nexus 4. And finally, HTC is preparing to sell the DROID DNA, the world’s first 1080p phone.

So my question today is, which of these phones are you going to own by the end of this year? We know that many of you are planning to upgrade to something in the coming weeks or during the holidays. What will it be? And if you don’t plan on picking up one of these new ones, feel free to choose “Other” and then let us know in the comments. We also included the Galaxy Nexus because I know that many of you aren’t ready to give it up yet.

Galaxy note 2 all the way!!!

  • Sporttster

Still happily cruisin along with my Razr Maxx and will be for some time. I like the Razr Maxx HD but I wouldn’t jump on that. They really need to improve their camera. Do that, you’ve got my attention.

Galaxy Nexus until either the next LTE Nexus phone drops or the GS4 arrives.

wow thought it would be DNA GS 3 or Note 2.

  • gmey

Don’t want to lose my unlimited plan through Verizon as I currently average about 8 gigs download a month due to using Google Music stream

  • iNfAMOUS70702

got the S3..the note 2 and the GF promised to buy me the nexus 4 for xmas :P

  • kervation

This is what makes Android and DL readers great. If you look at the comments and the poll, there are so many choices and likes/dislikes of which devices all of us own. It doesn’t matter what we all prefer, it’s that the majority of choices are all Android. I’m still rockin the GNex but the most important point is that it is ANDROID!! All day and every day!

The little green robot did it again in 2012. Let us see what the hottest OS in the world has in store for 2013!

  • Crinkled Star

I’d buy a DNA tomorrow if they weren’t locked down. I’ll keep using my GNex and wait for the dev’s to crack the DNA. Maybe it won’t take too long….

  • Benmartin1974

I had been weighing up ordering a samsung note II for some time. I read loads of reviews and this one was very helpful http://search4reviews.net/ , I received my package last month and am very happy. I Would highly recommend to anyone still unsure:

  • renGek

Out of curiosity, when the GN was first introduced there were no shortage of comments out there screaming why it didn’t have an SD card and why it didn’t have a 64gig option because 32gig was just not enough.

How many who got the GN (which is now almost 1 year later, more than 1 year for the GSM folks) is out of storage. I haven’t even broken 9gigs on my 32gigs. I’m curious to see what the percentage is like for people truly in need of massive amounts of storage or if its just one of those “bigger is better and spec is King so pile it on”

    • Bsody

Im sitting at around 12GB free at the moment. No, I dont have my entire 30GB music library loaded on there nor do I have many movies. Sadly, I do probably have way too many backups which I wouldnt hesitate to dump if storage was a problem.

  • Bsody

GNex with a small possibility of a Note 2.

  • kfath1978

I will be holding on to my nexus for awhile. I am going to wait and see what happens with this Google cell service in 2013. I hope they make it worth jumping to so I can drop Verizon.

  • Anonymous

May I ask, why did Motorola decide to go with stock soft keys in their Jelly Bean release, but release devices with modified soft keys on ICS originally?

  • guest

Since i work for big red, i cannot pass up the $99 DNA, so i will be buying it. I always swore i would never own a phone without a removable battery, but we’ll see how it goes. If i cant learn to love it, i will simply go back to my gnex.

  • strider_mt2k

I’ll have the same phone I have now.
    Duh.

  • http://www.thisismynext.com HyyerStandards

Still rocking a DroidX baby, running ICS.

    • Bsody

What Rom? A friend of mine just bought a used DX and wants me to “pimp it out with pink unicorn” Help a brother out and point me in the direction of a stable rom for a phone I know nothing about.

  • Kenny_b

I’m getting the N4 asap. My contract is up in March. I may even kill my contract early since the cost is 200 vs the 400 total I have left to pay

  • jzwerlz43

    getting my galaxy s3 tomorrow

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=10500605 Anthony Barbetto

Samsung Galaxy Nexus…regrettably. The reception is so God awful it’s driving me nuts. PLEASE MOTOROLA, MAKE A NEXUS IN 2013 SO MY PHONE WILL ACTUALLY WORK!

  • Mark

I’m glad to see the Nexus 4 at the bottom. With the exception of the faster processor its no better than the Galaxy Nexus. As a matter of fact, my 32GB of storage, super amoled screen, and LTE says my GNEX is better device.

    • LionStone

Looks like Moto on the bottom now… only thing the GN has on the LG Nexus is LTE.

      • Bsody

and verizion. For those of us in the middle of nowhere, its our only choice.

  • carlisimo

HTC One S. I’m not going any bigger than 4.3″. If Android leaves me behind, so be it, I’m not wedded to the OS.

  • joejoe5709

Samsung Galaxy Nexus for sure. I haven’t found anything worth buying off of contract. But come Sept 2013, I’m sure this will be a very different story. Samsung Galaxy Nexus 2!!

  • Mike

Getting the Droid Bionic tomorrow! Oh Yeah!

    • Silver Veloz

Don’t forget to get a Motorola Lapdock for the Bionic while you’re at it.

  • JMonkeYJ

i said nexus 4, but i’m not really sure i’ll be able to get my hands on one by the end of the year

  • NyReynolds

what if I own 2 of the listed phones? I can’t vote for both?

  • nightscout13

I can’t believe people are still rockin the GNex….That scratchy screen was ridiculous along with the radios.

    • joejoe5709

Other than maaaaybe the Nexus 4, it’s probably still the best Android phone out there. Specs wise, the SG3 is the best. Screenwise, Note 2 or the DNA. Best all arounder? Gnex or the Nexus4. Hands down.

  • Jorge

Why is it that the HTC One X+ has fallen off the face of the planet as soon as the HTC Droid DNA was announced. The HTC One X+ is a fantastic phone, why isn’t it being mentioned on this site anymore?

    • nightscout13

      Because it’s an HTC LMFAO, I’m kidding……

    • JetBlue

Verizon Android website HTC One X+ is an At&t phone and plus it’s the same phone just Tegra 3 processor with LTE.

      • Jorge

I know, but they covered the original OX extensively compared to the OX+
        I’m honesty just whining D;

        • JetBlue

The HOX was a big flagship phone at the time and the HOX+ is just a different processor and only comes in black.

  • Poop Dog 999

Galaxy Note II :-) & just bought 2 Galaxy S 3s for 96 cents at Sam’s invitation sale for my wife & step daughter Sunday night as well !!!

  • Silver Veloz

Some great choices. But for now I am sticking with the Droid Bionic since the ICS update and future Jelly Bean coming to the phone. There will be even a greater selection when my contract is up next year.

  • Sqube

If a Droid DNA+ drops with 32+ GB of storage and an unlockable bootloader, that will be my phone by the end of the year.

If not, I’m going to stick with my trusty GNex and see what MWC has to offer.

  • http://twitter.com/asten77 Asten

Leaning Optimus G, but possibly SGS3 still..

  • MattH818

Leaving VZW and my Droid Bionic in February when my contract is up. Nexus 4 and $30 month prepaid here I come. I can live with slightly slower data speeds while saving over $50 a month. FU VZW.

  • http://iamandroid.co/profile/rocktoonz Rocktoonz

Unless someone is going to give me a shiny new phone, I’ll be stuck with my trusty OG Dinc for awhile.

    • Guest

Im sorry bud…I too loved my DInc back in the day. Beast of a phone, took many a drop to the concrete, but you need to move one. Going from a DInc to a GNex was a similar step as going from a BB Curve to the DInc. Hell, if I decide to sell my GNex for a Note 2, I would be willing to sell it to you at a good price just because you are still rocking my old phone.

  • http://www.hammertechnologies.net/ Chase Johnson

Still Rockin’ my R2D2 until my Verizon contract ends in the spring.

  • gokusimpson

Still chugging along with my Droid X with ICS. Runs great and nothing else has persuaded me to drop it. No RGB on the DNA? No dice.

    • http://www.thisismynext.com HyyerStandards

Exact same boat man. This phone has been incredibly future proof. Besides LTE and FF-camera, it doesn’t lack anything I absolutely need. Liquid ICS ROM?

      • gokusimpson

I had a surprisingly bad time with Liquid ICS and Cyanogen. It was never stable and always rebooted. I found a lesser-known rom called Black Ice. I’m running it with Apex launcher and it is butter. It totally future proofed me for the foreseeable future especially with nothing in Verizon’s pipeline.

I’m also still super stoked that it still looks damn fresh for being dropped so many times without a case. Just a few nicks in the rubberized exterior. The screen is mint!

  • monkey082506

Couldn’t be more satisfied with the GNex and the development it has. I have no intentions on a new phone until the next Nexus.

    • joejoe5709

      Agreed.

  • Denvertoad

Off contract Dec 2013. Will be taking a hard look at cost. Especially if I lose unlimited. Until then Razr Maxx.

  • Berry2Droid

I’m all about the Note II. But since I’m on Verizon, I’m waiting with baited breath for the email letting me know my phone shipped.

    Waiting sucks

  • Raven

    Motorola Droid 4.
Best phone available on Verizon with a physical keyboard.

  • http://twitter.com/HitchIsANoun Shank Moody

This is an interesting poll being that I dropped a 80lb dumbbell on my Galaxy Nexus last night and it’s now dead. I do have an upgrade I can u, with another upgrade coming in May. Come Friday the Nexus will be free with an upgrade and the GS3 for $125 if not cheaper. Being that I don’t wanna spend much money what would you guys do??

    • gokusimpson

Doesn’t amazon wireless have good deals for upgrades?

      • http://twitter.com/HitchIsANoun Shank Moody

YEA! I just got the S3 bc they dropped the price from $125 to $80 on Friday. Should have it tomorrow. Now all the S3s on their site is on back order.

  • PhoenixPath

Voted for the G’Nex, even though I am currently using my Spectrum.

    (Yeah, I know..)

But really, since it got ICS? It’s a solid device. LG’s ICS with some of the bloatware disabled and running Nova is pretty slick. Not to mention the fact I can actually use the phone all day now and it actually *works* as a phone!

I love my G’Nex, and it will always be my playground, but sometimes I just need a phone that works.

  • Terrance Steiner

I got two weeks until I get to pick a new phone!!!! I am torn between the S3 and the Razr HD. Anyone have any suggestion on which to go with?

    • Bill Ratliff

Yeah wait.. There are all sorts of things coming out right now.. let them come out and get some feed back.. put your hands on everything in the store..

      • Terrance Steiner

I played with both this weekend and I like them both for different reasons. I like some of the features that Samsung has built in but I like the build quality of the Razr and the “closer to stock looking” Motoblur. If either get the JB update before my contract is due, I might have to jump on it….My Thunderbolt must die!

        • Bill Ratliff

Two of my friends have the S3 it seems to be a great phone. With that said I am a big fan of Motorola Hardware. Nothing on the market can touch the Maxx battery life if that matters to you. I am waiting for the Note 2.. But it may be too big!

        • gokusimpson

I’ve had an upgrade on my Droid X since April and I’m still easily holding on. Since you have a Thunderbolt you have to get rid of it asap. Have you given a look at the DNA yet?

  • ts14

I still own a Bionic and I’m reasonably happy with it for now. My next phone will likely be a Samsung Galaxy series phone tho. Just think I need to get a break from Moto for a bit.

  • http://twitter.com/JLC411 JLC

Was on the fence but I was able to sell my Galaxy on ebay for $250! Funny because off contract new it is $230. So I am jumping in and getting the DNA. If I hate it I will get the S4 this summer.

  • sralj

Wouldn’t let me vote, showed the results as soon as I opened the page. I’m hanging onto my Gnex for awhile, best phone I ever owned.

    • joejoe5709

That happened to me on the last poll. Maybe this needs to be looked at?

  • Guest

    Sticking with my Galaxy Nexus!

  • AhsanS

    My Droid 2 Global.

  • Daniel Fitzpatrick

I don’t think the gnex is the best phone out, but nothing is far enough ahead for me to upgrade just yet. Can’t wait to get rid of this pentile screen though!

  • http://www.facebook.com/nathanielnewmanmusic Nathaniel Newman

I already own the Maxx HD

  • ERIC REED

I was playing around with the HTC 8X earlier today and was wondering how I could explain another phone purchase to the wife. I’ve never used Windows phones, but that thing was awesome. And it looks amazing!!
