New Google TV Update Introduces Voice Search to Your TV, PrimeTime Guide to Easily Find Content

The Google TV teamed announced that new update is headed to GTV units in the near future. The update is the first to introduce Voice Search to Google TV, allowing you to easily switch channels by speaking their names, find how-to videos on YouTube, or even search for general terms like “football highlights.” They also updated their content-finding system and are calling it PrimeTime. With this new version, you can sort through recommended or favorite movie and TV titles without having to leave your current show. No longer do you have to sift through pages and pages of content while missing what you were already watching. And last, the new YouTube app update that was released yesterday, makes syncing videos between your mobile device and TV easier than ever.

The update will rollout to LG devices this week. The rest of the lot won’t see the update for a bit. The Logitech Revue and original Sony GTV devices will likely not see Voice Search.

any idea when this should come to the co-star?

Have been KIND-OF doing this for a while now with Able Remote, so if my Revue doesn’t ever see this I can continue with my status quo and be fine.

WOW! Any clue if Google has posted what devices will get the updates? I got my youtube updates on my Vizio Costar and my S3 last night – problem is I can’t send the video from my S3 to my Google TV? Any ideas? My S3 isn’t giving me the TV icon to send it?

    • Sean Wood

You ARE logged into your WiFi connection when you’re trying to send it via the S3…. You have to be on the same network.

      • npompei

Yep – Able remote works so I know they are both on the same network. Maybe I need to restart the phone?

According to the blog, it looks like all of the second generation devices (including set-top boxes like the Vizio Co-Star) will be getting the updates in the coming months. Patience, Grasshopper!

I’m still waiting for the Google Play update announced a couple months ago to show up.

What device do you have? I didn’t get the update on my Revue until a week anda half ago.

      • DroidJ

It’s a Revue. And it figures, I go to check it today and sure enough, it’s finally updated.

Will the set-top boxes get this? Like the Logitech Revue, or is it just the TV’s?

Did you bother even reading the article?

Does the revue even have a mic?

      Read….. Speak.

First-gen set-top boxes (like the Revue) aren’t getting the voice update, but they are getting Deion Sanders, err, I mean PrimeTime and the YouTube bit. We Revue owners can use the Android Google TV phone app to input using voice now, so I hope that same functionality will work with the updated Voice Search.

As for the YouTube remote control part, is that supposed to be live yet with the latest app versions? I don’t see it available on my phone, but I also have a Nexus Q, and I wonder if that’s causing a problem, given the overlap.
