What a dissapointment. I always enjoy a good political debate. I’m a psychologist by trade, so how people come to decisions is always interesting to me. But what I find fascinating, is that you say you’re a moderate, but Romney is a moderate. He’s the most moderate guy the Repubs have ever run. Governor of hyper democrat Mass, can’t be a straight conservative. Yet you are staunch in your defense of your vote for Obama, who is the most leftist president I’ve seen in my lifetime. I just like to understand what makes liberals tick, other than their rage for the delusional belief that everyone on the right is racist or whatever the daily personal attack is out of the lefty media. Like, do you really believe that government hand outs enriches peoples lives? Do you really believe we should all be locked into “Julia’s World,” married to a Leviathan state whose politicians believe that state-craft and government is the ultimate answer to whatever life’s problems are? That’s what I really don’t get about liberals. They’re belief in community rests in the disbelief in individuals that, when left to their own devices, would refuse to help their fellow man. They believe that government must ordain this, make it into law, in order to make it so. They believe that we must be governed by tyrannical omnipresent, moral busybodies, who legislate our lives for our own good, because they don’t believe in the the innate good of the individual. Did you know that social studies show a statistically significant higher percentage of liberals who are depressed and abuse drugs? Who commit suicide? I’m not saying that everyone who is a democrat is a depressed drug addict, but the fundamental difference between the two ideologies is in the worldview of their fellow man. Do you believe in your neighbor or not?

Look man, I just got back from a 4 day Vegas trip last night, had an absolute blast, so looking back on this conversation this morning, I realize how small and stupid this argument was. I’m a moderate voting for Obama and your a conservative voting for Romney, that’s just the way it is, were never going to agree on everything. Actually, I do agree with most of the stuff that you just said though, but I don’t think my conservative views are quite as extreme as yours, I also have a lot of other views on things that kind of out-weigh a lot of that stuff. Like I said, I’m a moderate, so I have a lot of liberal views too. And with the way these polls are looking lately it seems most of the country has already made up their mind. The debates should be fun to watch though and they will probably have some effect on people as well. Anyways, I’m voting for Obama and your voting for Romney, so let’s just agree to disagree.

So let me get this straight.
1. You want to vote for Obama, but you would like to see a smaller government? Obama is the biggest governmental expansionist of all time.
2. You want to cut the deficit, but you’re voting for Obama? The deficit was a shade under 10 trillion when he took office. It’s over 16 tril now.
3. If you want to cut out capital gains, then you don’t want to raise taxes on the extremely wealthy. Capital gains is what the majority of their income comes from. Even if you raised taxes on wealthy, that would do nothing to the deficit.
4. You’re against welfare, but you’re voting for Obama? Obama is the ultimate welfare proponent the world has ever seen. He now wants “personal journaling” to satisfy a “work requirement” to get a welfare check. Welfare has risen significantly under his presidency. It’s not even close.
5. You want strong military and you’re voting for Obama? I don’t even know what to tell you on this one.
All the insults and I’m a “little kid” comments, if that makes you feel better then great. Insult me all you want. But at the end of the day, you get your Half-Baked news from Jon Stewart, and you believe that a news organization that opines a counter viewpoint to whatever your world view du jour is should be ridiculed and banned. You’re completely willing to believe in all the character assassination and personal attacks on Romney because the dems put that out. That’s all they have to go on. They certainly can’t run on their own record. Just yesterday Harry Reid said that Romney has “sullied” his religion. So tell me, exactly what do you see in Obama? Does he have a nice jump shot? Is he cool cause Jon Stewart says so? Obama has the entire country on a fast track to bankruptcy and government dependence. That’s to say nothing of his constant gaffes and negative views of people who are successful and his desire to “spread the wealth.” But hey, if that’s what you want, great, I guess we’ll just all go down the toilet with Greece and Spain and California.

Wow. So that’s what this is suddenly about. You are really trying your hardest to prove my little kid theory right aren’t you? Listen to yourself man. You know that you have undoubtedly lost the original argument, but somehow everything will be OK if I just tell you one of my conservative viewpoints? So what, you can affirm to yourself that I’m not lying about being a moderate/independent? That’s gonna make you feel all better? I am literally laughing out loud right now.

So lets see…I support the second amendment and believe every citizen should be able to exercise their right to bear arms, with no exceptions. (I get in arguments with my liberal friends on that one all the time.) I believe in a smaller government, much smaller than what we have now. We need to cut whatever we can in order to stop this excessive spending, balance the budget, and start paying down this insane deficit. I do believe that we should raise taxes slightly on our upper class earners, ($250,000 and above) because I think it is necessary in order to do the things I just mentioned, but I also believe we should cut the capital gains tax, if not abolish it, to promote investment, business creation, entrepreneurship etc. Lets see..I’m also against welfare and similar programs because I think it creates government dependence. And of course I also believe in a strong, well equipped military and department of defense (I come from a military family.) There are probably many other things that I have conservative views on but that’s all I can think of off the top of my head.

But like I said, I’m voting for Obama, because I’m a moderate and I think he makes a much better president than an empty suit puppet who flip flops, runs from his past, misleads the public, doesn’t give specifics, and puts his foot in his mouth every time he opens it.

I still don’t think you quite get it. It sounds like you only look at the world in black and white, either conservative or liberal, for everything. A lot of people are like that, but I’m not one of them. Things aren’t so cut and dry in the real world. That’s why I consider myself a moderate. Being a moderate doesn’t mean I am exactly in the middle on every single issue, I don’t think that’s even possible, it means I am liberal on some, and conservative on others. Whatever is best for the situation at hand, or whatever I think is the smartest option to take. If you lock yourself in to one specific viewpoint, and follow that platform for everything, you start to see the world through a limited vision, and become blind to all other ideas – even if one is clearly the smarter solution. At least that’s how I see things, I realize that people like me are rare now a days though.

Honestly, I probably do lean a little more to left now a days, but that’s only because the tea party has pushed the republicans so much farther to the right. And that’s also why I plan on voting for Obama this November. I don’t have time to sit here and go through where I stand on every single issue with you, but I promise you I am definitely not a “hyper partisan liberal” pretending to be moderate, I just look at things from a different perspective, you should try it sometime

That’s the best you’ve got? A “it’s hilarious you think you’re a moderate” slam? Ouch, way to hit me where it hurts. This is what’s so funny about all you brainwashed uptight rigid carved-in-stone right wingers, you’re so locked in place in your political prison cells that you don’t think it’s possible for anyone to step outside of theirs. How dare someone say something that’s not in line with their claimed political stance? A republican who supports ObamaCare? – Off with his head! Not to mention that we don’t even care how you classify our political views, most people just have the views they have, and let the chips fall where they may.

Now, lets take a look at those so called “kind of views” that it is hilarious for a moderate to have. You mean views against lying and deceiving the general public? Views against taking someone’s words out of context and twisting them around until they say something completely different? How dare a moderate feel that way!
