Contest: It’s National Cheeseburger Day – Tell Us Your Favorite Burger, Win a Nexus 7 8GB (Update: Winner Picked)

In case you didn’t know, today is National Cheeseburger Day. To someone like me, a self-proclaimed cheeseburger guru, this is one of the greatest “holidays” of the year, because it means that I’m on my way to gorging myself on the finest burgers that Portland has to offer. But being that I’m in the tech industry and travel quite often to cities across this beautiful country, I’m always on the hunt for the best burger in the next city that I visit. So in the most selfish of ways, I’m using the DL community to find out where your favorite burger spots are, so that if I end up visiting a town near you, I’ll have a list of spots to check out.

But to make it worth your while, I figured we’d give away a Nexus 7 8GB to one of the lucky readers that leaves a comment. Sound good?

Winner: We have our winner! His name is Mike Kilar and he showed us that you don’t have to go anywhere besides your very own kitchen to have a great cheeseburger. He has included a picture as well! Congrats, Mike! Thanks to the over 3000+ comments/entries we received. We’ll go to as many of these spots as possible!

Prize:  1 (one) Nexus 7 8GB tablet

How to enter:

1.  Tell me what your favorite burger is, from what town and restaurant, and why it was the best ever.
2.  Feel free to follow us on Google+, Twitter, and Facebook if you aren’t already.

We will choose a winner randomly tomorrow at 12:00PM PT. Good luck!

By far, hands down, the best burger place you will go to is Port of Call in New Orleans. Make sure you try their Monsoon too!

  • Montana Mikes in Edinburgh, Indiana. It was Mike’s Big Beefy Burger. A monster 1lb. burger and the best I have ever had the pleasure of devouring! The price was also the best, under $9!! You can’t beat that!

  • YogurtBites

The Red Coat burger from Red Coat Tavern in Royal Oak, MI. The best part is the options available to you when creating you burger. Multiple types of buns, cheeses, sauces, and a ton of toppings. My favorite is a burger with swiss, lettuce, burnt onions, and zip sauce cooked medium rare. It’s so juicy and the zip sauce that they make there is amazing. I haven’t been able to replicate it at home. Thanks for making me write this. I’m now starving.

Edit: Runner up would have to be the brisket burger from Lockhart’s in Royal Oak, MI. Ground Texas style bbq brisket, with onions, and their house made bbq sauce. It’s so good.

  • PhatPhreddy

    ShakeShack, Madison Square Park, NYC.

    Forget uptown/downtown/loserfield(citifield) locations.

    Nexus of the burger world…….

  • john huie

don’t know if i’m too late, but here goes.

I had this burger from Ocean, in Easton, PA, and it was great. It’s not a burger place, but more of a fancy trendy place. In any case, good food. The burger was GREAT. Meat perfect, topped with bacon, egg, and i think them thin crispy onion rings. DELICIOUS.

  • Gabriel Blanco

Honestly.. no matter what Burger I’ve tried, I will always go back to non commercial burger joints. The charbroiled burgers can honestly NOT be beat.!

  • Double double animal style. I’ve never tasted a fresher and all around best tasting burger from any place like I have from In N Out. All the locations I’ve been to have the same uniformity when it comes to its taste but sense you asked for a town lets say Ontario, CA.

  • My usual favorite is Fuddrucker’s (pick any location) because of the build-your-own toppings aspect. However, the best burger I had was in this out-of-the-way bar near Indianapolis, IN and I wish I could remember the name of it (it’s been 7 years).

  • SchwannyT

Best Burger place is the Pastrami Swiss burger from Burgers Express in Logan, Utah. I totally love their home cut fries and FRY SAUCE!!!

  • Rafy186

Have Never had a burger better than I make. Maybe is cause I don’t go looking for spots to eat cheeseburgers. I love to make my Lava burgers with sauteed onions made from scratch with numerous spices. During labor weekend got a lot of praise on the taste.

  • Mr ilheis

I’m from Denver and the best burger in town is from H Burger Co. The original H Burger is delicious on so many levels.
Hand-formed, freshly ground 100% Angus beef, Hatch chile, smoked Cheddar, sweet ‘n’ spicy bacon, Bibb lettuce, tomato, and onion, served with a red pepper-tomato jam. BOMB!!

You can get a fabulous burger at Fleming’s in Tucson AZ. They use good quality meat; you can get it with bacon and cheese, and it is only $6 during happy hour. It also comes with a couple of great onion rings. The Tucson Fleming’s also serves free homemade chips in the bar during happy hour. I am heading there this afternoon.

  • My favorite would have to The jack burger from jacks in florence, sc. the burger is simple but taste great and it is also just a great place to get something to eat!

  • Saki

One of the best burgers I have had would be at Louis’ Lunch in CT, which is known for being the beginning of the hamburger. Just don’t ask for ketchup!

  • hitsuji6

The Bacon Deluxe from Red Mill Burgers in Seattle.

  • SteveG12543

The best burger IMO would be a double cheese burger with A1 and mushrooms from “Five Guys Burgers and Fries” located on either Rotunda Drive or Peninsula Drive, both in Erie, PA (They do obviously have chains all over as well, but these two are the ones I went to). I know it sounds kinda basic/generic, but it was the single best burger of my life. It was so juicy and cooked to perfection. The A1 and mushrooms really complimented the burger making it so much better. Even the bun was amazing. Nice and soft (but not too soft) and tasted great. I somewhat consider myself to be a simplistic burger fan, where I prefer a burger with a few toppings instead of one with lettuce, tomato, coleslaw, a PS3 and the kitchen sink thrown onto it. Just give me my burger with a bit of cheese, some mushrooms and a dash of A1 and I’m set.

When in New York City, you have to check out “brgr.” It’s a really cool burger spot with a great atmosphere and amazing burgers. All the burgers are made from 100% grass fed beef and are of the highest quality. They have a menu of interesting burgers, and you can also create your own. My favorite burger on the menu is called The Rainforest Burger, which is a beef patty with gruyere cheese, avocado, herb mayonaise, lettuce and tomato. The combination of the juicy beef, mixed with the gruyere and avocado and the herb mayo is the bomb! Also, while I’m personally not a fan of their fries or sweet potato fries, they do have an “onion hay” that is delicious and goes so well with this and the other burgers on their menu. They also have a good variety of beverages to wash this burger down with: sodas, beers, wine, and milkshakes…whatever floats your boat.

  • Kevin F

Dark Horse in Findlay, OH. Their cheeseburger is the best when cooked just right. They also have a “monster burger” if you are tempted
