Motorola RAZR HD Launching in October in Germany, U.S. too?

When Motorola and Verizon announced the new DROID RAZR HD and RAZR MAXX HD, they wouldn’t tell us when it would arrive other than “before the holidays.” Such a vague time frame could mean October or late-November, right? According to a press release for the RAZR HD launch in Germany, October is looking likelier than ever. In fact, the RAZR HD will launch in October in Germany, so if Verizon were to kick their unbelievably slow testing time in gear, maybe we’ll see the device stateside at or around the same time.

We can’t imagine that Motorola and Verizon would have gone through the trouble of a major press event in NYC, only to let Germany steal their fire. If the RAZR HD was on your radar, you may want to focus in on October.

i already own a Razr Droid Maxx, I am wondering what would be the benefits of upgrading. It appears that the OG Razr Droid Maxx is supposedly getting 4.1 soon.?? The internals seem better, but not that much. I live the battery life of mine now and really see no obvious reason to plunk down the bucks or extend my contract and loose unlimited data with Big Red.

    • i was going to get the razr maxx myself because the HD didnt seem like much of an upgrade and i could buy the razr maxx for second hand pretty cheap.
but then i read that the HD will have NFC so i think im going to hold out and get a HD, because i know in a few years i will only want to get a phone with NFC, so might as well do it now you know ๐Ÿ™‚ and try and keep a phone for a 2 years at least
but thats the only real big difference i think. the razr maxx still seems miles ahead of most other phones

I said it would be October 2 months ago on about 5 different blogs. Moto is taking their time and now my eyes are possibly on the LG Optimus G. Either a 1.5 or 1.7 quad core processor, 13 MP camera, only phone to run on Verizons LTE +/Advanced network, – or – a phone with a huge battery and crappy camera. Hmmmm, I might now be leaning away from Moto and going with the LG.

Funny the phone that was released in NY had kevlar knit in one direction, This more forms a ‘V’ Shape! Anyone can confirm what it actually will be!

I am highly debating on a Droid Razor Maxx HD if it is a developer edition. Keeping my Unlimited Data. Coming from a Thunderbolt. It looks like a great replacement.

  • Pegleg

    Another pathetic move by MOTO!

    • Bionic

      You really are an idiot

Based on the RAZR last year, maybe they’ll go for 12/12/12?

    • coyote

      I prefer 10/11/12 ๐Ÿ™‚

      Hopefully before 12/21/12 ๐Ÿ™‚

Well, prior to today, I honestly thought VZW and Moto would kinda honor the release date anniversary (11/06/09) of the OG and release the HD and Maxx on that same day (or close to it) in 2012.

As long as it’s a few weeks prior to Black Friday, Moto will still get a fair amount of guaranteed pre-holiday sales. And my local VZW store has RAZR M signage everywhere, so I think they are gonna push these new RAZRs hard this fall. But I just think Moto lost sooo much valuable time and consumer mindshare by delaying the RAZR M and HD for so long. If they’d launched in June-July, they’d have been the hottest phones of the summer. Now they have to contend with the iPhone 5, the Note 2, and whatever HTC’s cooking up in 1080p.

Anyone? Is this GSM edition? Works worldwide???

Please launch in early October. I really love the new Motoblur and that huge battery is awesome.

  • moto nexus… ha!

  • Colin Vesper

I was hoping it would be soon. I really want a phone that stays on all day through heavy use.

Hey guys, anyone know if there is live broadcast of the Motorola & Intel live event?
    Thanks. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • To upgrade or not to upgrade…that is the question. Coming from a Bionic. The battery life seems great (I’d be getting the Maxx), it’ll have Jelly Bean, but is it enough to warrant my money?

    • Laki S.

I’m in the exact same boat. My Bionic has been having some issues lately and I’ve been eyeing this new Maxx since it was announced. I’ll try to hold off on buying it at first release… It’s a pretty big chunk o’ change since I’ll be buying off contract, and with the new Nexuses so close behind, I might as well wait a couple weeks more. But you’re right–that new battery is definitely something that keeps drawing me back.

      • Exactly! I’m tired of having two batteries and having to switch them out whenever I use my phone a lot. I’m also buying off contract, but the blow is softened by the fact that I bought and sold an SIII on launch day, so I have that profit in my pocket to help pay for it. I’d say that I’m waiting for the next Nexus, but honestly, that’s not it, because Verizon’s won’t get direct updates anyway and the new Blur is basically stock.

        • Diablo81588

Why do you carry two batteries? Just buy the extended, it lasts for two days with normal use.

          • Laki S.

I also carry two batteries for my Bionic. I don’t carry the extended for a couple reasons: I don’t want a brick of a phone and one of the glitches of my Bionic is that it doesn’t charge everytime I put it on its OEM charger, so if I’m out and I’m running low, I can’t just toss it on the charger. It’s easier for me to just carry two batteries, but it’s still a pain. I’m still loyal (to a fault) to Moto, but I’ll see what Nexus has to offer this year. After the N7, I’m loving some stock Android action.

          • Diablo81588

Warranty replacement? I’ve never had charging problems.

          • Laki S.

It’s stock rooted, so no warranty for me. It’s a fairly recent thing that started, maybe after one of the updates, that I can’t seem to fix. The only sure fire way it’ll charge is if I put it in its dock. For some reason, plugging it into USB only works half the time. I’ve tried searching for answers on forums, but apparently I’m the only one with this anomoly.

          • Diablo81588

Sounds to me like a connection problem.A dock will hold it more securely and at the right angle. In any case, I don’t think Verizon would deny you warranty for a charging problem just because you’re rooted.

          • Laki S.

It’s not a connection problem. I think the magnets in the dock trigger the bedside clock function which tells it it’s ok to charge. If I play with the magnets, I can get that without the dock. Just plugging it directly into the USB doesn’t trigger a response half the time. At any rate, if I’m turning in this phone, it won’t be for another one. I’m going up. Either the new Moto or a Nexus.

          • Diablo81588: I had the same problem popup recently. Try turning the plug around and see if the phone then charges. Worked for me everytime.

    • Mark Ostroff

Coming from a Bionic? Seriously? My wife had a Bionic and switched to the RAZR MAXX. HUGE difference in battery life, as well as being much lighter and more solidly built. I can’t imagine MOTO going backwards with the RAZR HD MAXX on either of these points (not to mention a bigger screen in a MUCH thinner form factor than your Bionic).

      • I guess it’ll also depend on how the Bionic runs on ICS (assuming it ever actually gets released) to see if I can hold off for some even-better phone. But, I definitely know this would be a giant step forward. I’d love some great battery life and a 4.7 inch HD screen.

(That being said, I have no problems with build quality on the Bionic…I don’t have a case on this thing and have dropped it many times. It’s a tank).

        • Diablo81588

It runs better on ICS than the RAZR does. The RAZR build is pure trash, compared to leaked ICS for the Bionic.

      • Diablo81588

Not with the 2800mAh extended battery. Its definitely thinner, though.

    • hkklife

Unless you have the $ to burn on a full retail purchase or have a line to upgrade and aren’t grandfathered into unlimited, I’d try to hold off a while longer.

Sometimes I still regret dumping my Bionic for a GS3.

In its favor, the Bionic SHOULD get its OTA ICS soon and that makes it a still-formidable device (don’t forget that many get bumped up to 1.2Ghz with ICS). Add to that an extended battery or two and a nice big microSDHC card and you still have a solid device that can hold you over until Moto makes a 5″ device or a new Nexus or has a quad-core or 1080p device or something. The Bionic will also be able to run Webtop 3.0 under ICS which is something no new Moto phone will have.

Considering the screen space used up by the virtual buttons and the HD’s screen will effectively only be .2″ or so larger than the Bionic’s. I am sure the HD will continue the tradition of lousy Moto cameras, so there probably won’t be a huge improvement there. It is a lot faster, sleeker, slimmer, better built and will offer better screen resolution and JB, so if you have the $ by all means go for it!

    • The Razr Maxx HDis defiantly worth it, I’m waiting for it also.
I just hope they set the release date for October with the Razr HD. It would make sense wouldn’t it?

  • Butters619

Will the GSM version be unlockable via developer.motorola.com? That is the question.

    I hope it is true.
