Google Now Fixes Bug That Kept Us from Seeing Football Scores This Weekend

If you are like me and looked down at your phone a few moments ago, you might have noticed that Google Now had a notification telling you that your favorite NFL team won or lost their game in the past few days. Google rolled out NFL teams to the Sports card a few weeks back but come Sunday, no scores would show up.

An XDA thread that has been brewing over the past few days said that Google knew about the problem and was investigating it and it seems like that was true. You now can get recaps and highlights for your teams from the cards in Google Now since it seems like Google has fixed this bug.

How many of you are still in the Droid Life Eliminator challenge after this week?

  • Philip Bradley

Sod hand ball, what about proper football, you know that you play with your FEET?
Why am i not getting updates for the most popular sport on earth?

  • DivingDancer

    I agree! Add college football!

And, while they are at it, could they PLEASE fix the Google Now bug that prevents the weather card from displaying when I’m at home? Works fine when I’m anywhere else!

  • MikeSaver

Can anyone explain to me why Watch ESPN blacked out Monday Night Football on my Nexus 7 but let me play it on my PC? It’s supposed to play on PCs and tablets.

  • Tyler

Ha, i knew something was up. Noticed it was working last night.

  • jeesung

Card showed in my Notification Panel with the Baseball icon next to it! 🙂

  • Michael G

    GO BEARS!!!!!!! lol

  • Ah, I thought I was doing something wrong, but couldn’t figure out why my baseball scores always worked. Better not screw up the NHL season, IF there is a NHL season.

  • Ejflyingeye

Nice! Very cool that this is working now.

  • SD_Scott

And what a MIGHTY FINE score that top one is… =) GO BOLTS!

  • coolsilver

yea not turning on web history for that.

  • arturo_bandini

Got my new Nexus 7 last Wednesday, fired up Google Now, asked it a couple questions and just got pages of web results. Lost all interest.

  • Bigsike

So is there a new flashable file for those of us who had to do so?

    • I think it was a server-side fix, so no update needed. Could be wrong though…

      • Bigsike

        Ah ok thanks!

  • I got my score when I woke up this morning. My first thought – “Oh NOW it gives me the score. After I watched us get killed yesterday!”

  • DanWazz

Woke up to see that the Chargers had beat the Raiders. Not only did my team win, but Google now was updating football scores. Double win.

  • Quindarious Gooch

Perhaps I don’t get how to use Google Now. Scores for my favorite MLB team come up [though a few innings behind]. Not sure what I did to get those to come up. No searches talk to me as someone said happens. How do I get my NFL team to show up?

  • HTTR and RG3! (about time Google! been waiting for this)

  • I just like how one of your favorite teams includes DA BEARS. Can’t wait for some Packer stuffing this Thursday!

    • Michael G

Cutler’s on his game this season!
That 55+ yard bomb was amazing!

Nice how when i search my Cincinnati Reds, some polite lady gives me the update…When i search for the Bengals, i just get web results…Why is she not speaking for my football team??? (yeah, it was a horrible game to watch…)

    • woadster

Ravens taking the division again this year. Was looking forward to having that polite lady tell me just how much of a skull dragging that game was, but just web results here too.

      • Ravens looked tough as hell. New no huddle offense was nearly flawless…

        • KleenDroid

The Ravens have as much of a chance as Art Model

“ouch… I even wince as I read this”

        • BGRUGGER

Flacco was amazing, Reed and Lewis are tough, but cant see them lasting another year…their bodies are worn!

    • Haha! Reds/Bengals fan here thinking the same thing! Wth?! Also, no card for the Bengals game last night…

  • gorkon

Heck with the NFL….what about COLLEGE? When will NCAA Football appear in Google Now?

    • EvanTheGamer

Don’t think it’s big enough yet. If that was the case, then why not High School Football? What about Little League Baseball? Etc. lol I think they’ll probably just be sticking with the professional sports for now.

      • Logan

You don’t think college football is “big enough yet”?

        • EvanTheGamer

Not as big as the NFL. Like I said though, Google is probably just sticking with the professional sports for now, which explains the lack of no support for college football.

          • Um, with all due respect, you’re nuts… lol

          • EvanTheGamer

I’ve been called many things, but “nuts” is not one of them. lol

          • You clearly don’t understand American Football if you don’t believe College Football isn’t big enough. Some would argue it’s *more* popular than the NFL.

          • Check fan support for college vs NFL then get back to me when any NFL stadium can fill 110,00 seats every weekend. Combine that with the age groups of the two fanbases, who is more likely to have a smart phone?

          • While I agree with this I think the better question is which is more organized and Google can quickly obtain score data for every team from.

          • Daniel Rosseau

Yea Evan I’m sorry but you must be clueless. Do you think college basketball isn’t big enough either? You might be right….the March Madness cost is only in the billions….

          • Big_EZ

Theres over 120 teams in division 1 alone and many of them have packed stadiums week in and week out. Most people I know that are into football are into football are into college but not all are into NFL (especially women) This might be because we don’t have a NFL team here but most cities don’t have an NFL team but have a college team.

          • gorkon

Really? NCAA football is HUGE. Each school involved gets MILLIONS when they make it to the championship game. The AP and USA Today run their rankings. College football is probably bigger than the NFL in many ways for a lot of people.

          • michael interbartolo

Last time Michigan had less than 100,000 in attendance watching a game was in the 70’s. how many NFL teams can say that. so I beg to differ on college football not being as big as NFL teams.

      • NCAA football is plenty “big”. Much bigger than NFL in many markets. The real reason, I think, is because there are 120 teams at the FBS (div 1a) level. A bit more to manage than the NFL

        • Big_EZ

Exactly, there are a lot more cities where its residence can root for their home team in collegethan NFL.

        • big b

You think that Google which organizes and index billions of pieces of Information and live traffic data from millions of roads & intersections … can’t gather data on 120 NCAA football teams.

          • Hold on a minute, let me find where I said that… Crap, can’t find it…
My point is that there’s more to manage with NCAA football. Of course they can do it, but it still involves more of an effort. With the way they’re slowly adding more to Google Now I’m guessing they’ll get to it, they just included the easier pro sports stuff first.

      • They wouldn’t have to support them all. Just do the most popular ones. If someone is butthurt over their team not being one, tell them to gain more of a fan base and bring in more revenue! =P

        • EvanTheGamer

lol…yeah, don’t think that’s gonna work out. Teams would still be offended by Google’s classification as a smaller team. It would be an unnecessary sh*tstorm that they would really want to avoid. lol Probably the main reason why they haven’t supported college football yet.

    • I’ve been trying to get NFL scores and nothing, I even added my team, I get Baseball scores but no football, at least not yet.

    • I’m hoping for Google Now to have more than just football from NCAA eventually. At RIT hockey is the big sport, so I’d like to see RIT Hockey updates.

  • Oh RAIDERS you piece of garbage team….

    • ha, lol

    • paul_cus

      I’m still upset with them.

  • wheineman

Does anybody else have severe lag when trying to use Google Now? The first few days were great, click search, everything loads quick and my keyboard pops up to type. Then it SLOWWEEEDDDD down. I click search, wait a few seconds while the Now Screen is all white. Then I click in the actual search box within Now and it slowly pops up the keyboard. Then when I type, it lags and slowly fills in my search. Not a good experience.

    Is it just me?

    • EMcTx

I’ve noticed a lag as well. I figured it was it was my custom rom (toasted marshmallow on the mytouch 4g woo hoo), but it has been happening since the update a few weeks ago. Hopefully, this lag will me fixed soon.

    • +1

  • Scott Hartman

I just barely survived the first week when Vic and the Eagles pulled what should have been a gimme game out from where the sun don’t shine in the last two minutes of the game. Sheesh!

  • Flexible_Techie

You were REALLY “stopped” from seeing the scores?
You didn’t think to use any of the other dozens of apps instead????

Why pick the app that doesn’t work?

  • I wish Google Now showed tennis scores for players you assign.

  • woadster

I can’t get it to give me a voice response when I search for the Baltimore ravens. Works on other teams. I am getting ttheir card now. And yes I’m still in.

  • John

    need nhl support too

  • Stewie

Not that sports scores are my thing, but glad to see they addressed it for those of you who are into that …. 🙂

  • Sankyou

Mine showed up with a baseball next to it….odd. Anyone else?

  • wheineman

Still no NFL Scores here! I also would love to see NCAA Football added. I am still stuck using ESPN Scorecenter and ESPN CFB to get all my news. PS – I am gonna win the Eliminator!

  • Bear Down!!

  • Jeff Tycz

I was wondering why I didn’t get any updates on sunday and then I look on my phone this morning and it finally showed the game recap

  • Michael Forte

I saw the cards for football this morning and was wondering about that. Now if they would support college football as well.

    • Prox

      +1 for college football.

      • John

        -1 for college football

    • +1000 for ncaa
