App Publisher Makes Google Play the Place to Be for Hip Hop Mixtapes

For fun, Kellex and myself share mixtapes to each other for some of the hip hop artists we both enjoy. With the release of Big Sean’s Detroit, I found an application in the Trending section of  Google Play that allowed me to download an app with the full album inside, then select to move it to my device’s SD card. After looking deeper, I found that the publisher has a very extensive list of well-known and not so well-known mixtapes from today’s more popular rappers.

You’ll find mixtapes from Lil’ Wayne, Wiz Khalifa, Rick Ross, Gucci Mane, and a ton more. Again, if hip hop isn’t your thing, then you should probably ignore this. Hit the play link below to see his full list of tapes. As a reminder, mixtapes are produced by artists to be distributed for free of charge. No worries of piracy here. If you’re looking for good ones to start with, I would suggest Rick Ross’ Ashes to Ashes or Wiz Kahlifa’s Cabin Fever. Go enjoy some music.

Can this be done with the GNex somehow since it doesn’t have a physical SD card?

    • JMonkeYJ

yup, works just fine on GNex! the GNex has a sort of virtual sdcard (/sdcard directory)

      • http://twitter.com/D_Shady Dennis Da Menace

Dope! Thx! You mind showing me how exactly to move the app there? I downloaded it from play store, now can’t figure out how to move the app to that directory. Thanks in advance.

        • JMonkeYJ

sorry, didn’t see this for a while. after you dl the app, open it. then click the music button, then the big mysterious black box (presumably there’s supposed to be something there and it’s glitched). that will take you to a screen where you can copy the songs to your SD card. after a while (15 mins? an hour?) they will be added to your media library.

Am I the only one that thinks this is stupid? Why not just link somewhere with the MP3s or whatever it is. Instead of downloading an app that copies them and then have to uninstall the app.

  • JazzoRenee

I think it would be adventitious for artist to look into having their music pre-loaded on new devices and receiving a reality cut.
Artist need to stay ahead of moving trends.

My idea better not be stolen hahaha

Nothing like free and legal music to start the day.

  • fauxshizzl

Not sure if any of it would be on there, but if you are looking for some really good hip hop that is not auto tuned to death or just studio garbage like most listed above check out Rhymsayers (music label.) Atmosphere runs it and has tons of talent signed. Look up Atmosphere, Sims, P.O.S, Brother Ali, Dessa, Doomtree, Cecil Otter, Grieves, and Lazerbeak for starters.

Also for those who like finding new artists or listening to artists that haven’t yet broken into main stream be sure to check out Novi Novack!

  • Atrain729

yet another reason why i love this site so

  • r0lct

Don’t listen to Rick Ross it always sounds like he’s trying to eat a ham sandwich between bars with a flow that slow a basic (makes me thing Dr Seuss). I will give him credit as he probably gets paid the most per word since he doesn’t say much.

datpiff has a mobile app that allows you to do the same as described above has been around a long time. and their selection is pretty large

  • Dirty Dancing

Very cool app…. but you share mix tapes? Are you two an 80′s dating couple?

    • http://Twitter.com/ContestsAccount bigrob60

Seriously. Makes we wonder if one of them is secretly John Cusack, :]

  • http://twitter.com/QSMinSD Q

Can the MP3s be pulled out of these apps individually?

  • Christopher Williams

    Thanks!

  • nightscout13

    No metal love?

  • Kane

Many so-called mixtapes are in fact not legal and often contain stolen tracks from the studio. Sometimes the artist does not know anything about them and don’t endorse them. Some artists put them out to keep up awareness of them even though they are prohibited to for contractual agreements. Mixtapes are a mixed bag.

    • kervation

While what you say is very true, mixtapes & hip-hop go hand in hand. It has been this way for years and even started careers of certain independent artists who are otherwise ignored or don’t have the funds for the major labels.

      • kwubba

Exactly…back in the day DJ’s like Ron G, Funkmaster Flex, DJ Kay Slay made a number of the New York based artists giving them exposure they would have never received in mainstream music.

  • kervation

Been using datpiff but they have become unreliable. Will definitely have to check this out.

  • FortitudineVincimus

Lil’ Wayne, Wiz Khalifa, Rick Ross, Gucci Mane – wow… you need to kick your rap tastes up a notch. Lil’ Wayne.. what a joke. bwaa ha ha ha. Let’s get some Ice Cube, WC, Westside Connection, MAck 10, DMX.. don’t waste my time with autotuned Lil’ Wayne. Gucci Mane? Please with that mainstream garbage.

    • kervation

+1 for that old school don’t forget Spice 1

    • Fortitudine

Maybe if those artists still produced mixtapes your comment would be relevant.

    • SKINNI

Everyone you listed was a mainstream rapper (note was….). Now one is busy with tv & movies (great way to stay relevant & i commend him), WC & Mack 10 are WSC with Cube but they’re nobody now, & DMX is a crackhead. I’m not crazy about most of the guys he named but they at least are putting music out. Can I get a “+1″ for everyone that has jammed a WC mixtape in the last year???? Or even new mainstream album in the same timeframe???

  • David

in b4 the, “like ewwww kellen listens to rap/hiphop? like omg!” LMAO

    • Michael Jon Carter

In b4 the “like ewwwww kellen listens to wack rap/hip pop?” Lol

  • fritzo

Thanx! I’ve been using my phone as my main internet device lately. It’s been difficult to try and download new/free music from various sites. With this and utorrent available, it makes things easier. There really needs to be more mobile sites though. Loving Big Sean’s “DETROIT” btw!

  • Reggie Nelson

good to know i usually go on datpiff.com

i like that site too, but their mobile app sucks! have you ever tried it?

  • Radgatt

    Yes!

  • MirrorKellen

this is very cool. thanks guys

    • nsauce7

Are u the evil or good twin bro of kellen

  • TheFirstUniverseKing

The developer should’ve placed all of these inside of one app, instead of littering the Play Store with an app for each mixtape.

    • nsauce7

That would big one big file with only a few good relevant choices per person without the ability to delete any mix tapes (you cant delete levels from a game u download can u?) Its a store and when would u run into these without looking for them?

      • Mike

One app that lets you selectively download a mixtape wouldn’t take up much space.

      • Fattie McDoogles

Yea the app wouldn’t actually have the mixtapes. It would just allow you to scroll through and download the one’s you wanted.
