I've grown tired of constantly flashing roms to find features I might like and flashing kernels in search of longer battery life. What I've learned is that all roms are 99% the same and all kernels give you 99% the same battery life. I'm not going to find every bit that I can undervolt or change the way I use my phone or use Tasker to turn things on and off. I shouldn't have to do that with my phone just to get through the day.

I live in an area with poor reception (~5-7 miles from the nearest towers with trees and trees and more trees in the way) so it's difficult for me to comment on battery life on a day to day basis. When I've spent extended periods of time in an area with strong reception, I'm still looking at 2hrs on screen and 10-12hrs total max. Battery life I can deal with though because I have spare batteries.

Signal strength is far better on the SGS3 than the Galaxy Nexus and living where I do, that means far more to me than the massive number of AOSP roms that are generally all the same.

And now, 9 months after buying the phone, I'm experiencing burn out (or burn in, whichever way you want to describe it) of the notification and nav bar which normally wouldn't be an issue thanks to the manufacturer warranty. But I'm stuck between dealing with it or getting a CLNR which might not be able to hold a signal at all or has a screen that is blue or purple.

I agree... and it performs wonderfully, battery lasts all day, great quality. The signal could be better but overall its a great phone. You must not feel the same as I do which makes me wonder what's wrong on your end and why you can't figure it out.

And yes in my opinion it is about the ROMs. That is what a nexus is for.
